The Amazing Spider-Man Reviewed

As an angry nerd who was raised on comic books, I have a personal stake when Hollywood hijacks one of my beloved comic heroes and has their way with them. Sometimes, we get a disaster like Catwoman. I’ll give you a moment to stop screaming and vomiting. …and we continue. Sometimes we get Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. After watching The Amazing Spider-Man, the older Spider-Man films now play like Tim Burton’s Batman in my head. They are whimsical and fairly non-threatening with too much time spent on overly mushy, mumbly moments where our protagonists drone on about their boundless love, and at the time, it is all we had, so it was good. Peter Parker was super nerdy, Mary Jane was missing a bit of her ka-pow…if you know what I mean…and there was just some element missing. The humor of the comics..the intensity of the action..the depravity of the villains…SOMETHING just did not translate. Even New York was this sort of idealized, convenient Raimi creation. All that is about to change.

A Closer Look at The Amazing Spider-Man's Gear
If you follow me anywhere on the interwebs, you know I do my best to visit the TRex in Times Square on every visit...which is code for a Toys R Us run. Recently, this flagship store has been utilizing a bit of space amid the lil kiddie toys to celebrate the latest superhero films with brilliant displays surrounded by the expected piles of tie-in merchandise. The newest addition to this area is a killer display of props from The Amazing Spider-Man, providing a live look at that crazy innovative mask design and the mechanical web shooters fans have been screaming for since day 1.

The Amazing Spider-Man" is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero. The Amazing Spider-Man will open in theaters everywhere in 3D on July 3, 2012.

MIB ♥ NYC on Wednesday May 23
To celebrate the nationwide release of the action adventure comedy Men In Black™ 3, Wednesday, May 23 will be MIB ♥ NYC Day in New York City, with a special series of events culminating in the premiere of the film in the evening. Men In Black 3 will be released in theaters on Friday, May 25, 2012. Men In Black 3 was filmed on location in the New York area – the only film in the series to have the majority of the production based in New York. The day will kick off live on “Good Morning America” from the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum with the cast of Men In Black 3 celebrating the film and the start of Fleet Week. Mayor Bloomberg is expected to attend and to proclaim Wednesday, May 23 to be MIB ♥ NYC Day in the city. MIB ♥ NYC Day will then continue as Men In Black 3 rings The NASDAQ Stock Market Opening Bell from the NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square.
Throughout the day, MIB Agents will descend upon key NYC locations, including Grand Central Terminal, Times Square, and the Chrysler Building. When people spot the agents, they can take a photo with the Instagram app and hashtag it #MIBHEARTSNYC and post that photo to Twitter. Some participants may be invited to the premiere that night in NYC.
There will be MIB ♥ NYC events at the Museum of the Moving Image, where the exhibit “Aliens, Gadgets, and Guns: Designing the World of Men In Black 3,” featuring over 25 alien masks and props from the film, is now on display and where the first MIB film will be screened; at various children’s museums, which will feature MIB craft activities and screenings of the first film; and at Sony Wonder Technology Lab, which will be offering a variety of fun activities, including an alien slime making workshop, a “special agent” photo opportunity, and the chance to check out real one-of-a-kind props from the film.
In addition, On Location Tours will offer fans the chance to follow in the footsteps of Agents J and K, passing by MIB headquarters and other locations from all three Men in Black films on the signature New York TV & Movie Sites tour. Moviegoers who need a snack can stop by Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin’ Donuts to try one of several Men In Black 3 inspired menu items, served up by employees wearing MIB ♥ NYC pins. Throughout the month of May, Baskin-Robbins is celebrating Men In Black 3 with Lunar Cheesecake ice cream, plus Lunar Lander and Agent 31 sundaes, while Dunkin’ Donuts is serving up out of this world Black Cocoa Creme Iced Coffee and new Undercover Black Cocoa and Chocolate Lunarmax Donuts.
The day concludes with the premiere of the film at the Ziegfeld Theatre, where the film will screen for 1150 invited guests. Simultaneously, at the AMC 42nd Street theaters, the film will screen for another 1500 people, including 500 first responders and active military. Following the screenings, 2500 guests will attend the after-party at the Intrepid Air, Sea & Space Museum. For the festivities, Fireworks by Grucci has been generously donated in honor of our nation’s military by the Generoso Pope Foundation, and following the display, Pitbull, whose single “Back In Time” is featured in Men In Black 3, will perform from the flight deck. In addition, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Trey Smith will be spinning throughout the night.
“New York City is home to 130,000 Film and Television jobs and there are few that compare in size and scope to Men in Black 3,” said NYC Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment Katherine Oliver. “MIB3 turned 2012 Cobble Hill, Carrol Gardens and so many other parts of the City back in time and employed hundreds and hundreds of people. The Mayor and I are so proud that it was Made in NY.”In Men In Black™ 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back... in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K's life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him — secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind. Barry Sonnenfeld directs the film. The film’s screenplay is written by Etan Cohen, based on the Malibu Comic by Lowell Cunningham. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald produce, and Steven Spielberg and G. Mac Brown are the executive producers.

Prepare For Tarantino's DJANGO UNCHAINED
Pulp Fiction...True Romance...From Dusk Til Dawn...these are the movies that constantly put a smile on our faces and flash back to a happy day with friends and some fucked up moments flashing on a giant movie screen. Now, Tarantino returns with his newest creation. Start counting the days...Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles - dead or alive.
Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South's most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.
Django andSchultz's search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of "Candyland," an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...
Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Quentin Tarantino, DJANGO UNCHAINED is produced by Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin and Pilar Savone. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole. DJANGO UNCHAINED will be released in the U.S. on December 25, 2012, and internationally by Sony Pictures.
