San Diego Comic-Con 2012 : DKE Art Toy Exclusives
I had once thought the term Art Toy sounded a bit pretentious. Over time, I came to realize these vinyl beauties that dance across my computer screen often transcend the label of "toy" and become something more. There is still many a moment when I see a design for a new piece and go FUCK YEA! It's just damn fun and the term "art toy" seems to want to squash that spirit. Sooo..call them what you will, but beware! Strolling past the DKE booth (#4728) at San Diego Comic Con 2012 may force an emptying of your wallet. DKE always has a wide array of exclusives from many artists, so let's take a look at this year's goodies...
5” flocked Treeson by Crazy Label and Bubi Au Yeung : My name is Treeson, I stand taller than seated and I grow older every day. My body is a marshmallow, though sometimes it tastes like snow. I used to have nothing in my chest. Then one day, a tree branch was stabbed into my heart — don't worry, it doesn't hurt. I'm used to it now. Don't we all have something in out heart as we get older? I like my friends. I smile a lot. And I'm seldom bored. I am Treeson, the son of trees. $40 each and there are two sweet colors, pink and a minty green. DKE will have 150 pieces of each color.
San Diego Ji Ja by mr clement : Ji Ja bird is a new character from mr clement's comic - Ji Ja café - currently available online on his website (mrclement.com/jijacafe.htm). A pair of little birds who are only able to speak Ji and Ja, they are exploring the world between frames, carrying a mysterious message in the tiny envelope to someone who is waiting for it and like every journey there are stories to tell on the way. You may not be able to travel as far as them or speak as much, but you might have someone who needs to be sent a special message. Just write what you want to say and put it into the envelope and then your Ji Ja bird can go deliver the message for you, envelope held firmly in its beak.
Ji Ja bird will take any message for you, you might say I love you of course but it could be I hate you instead, Ji Ja bird just wants to pass on your message and won't look, whatever you write. Handpainted by mr clement especially for San Diego Comic Con. $45 and limited to 50 numbered pieces.
Android Summer Edition: Comic-Con Variant Set by Andrew Bell : Artist Andrew Bell teamed up with Google and members of the Android™ to bring their mobile platform mascot to life in the form of a collectible miniature figure! Figures are generally 3 inch vinyl pieces with rotating arms and head. $25 for the set. Limited to 1,000 sets
CrapZombies Set by Van Beater : Yo Ho! CrappyCat is drunk, down on his luck, and stuck between “who knows” and “who cares.” His life used to be amazing. Red carpet fashion shows, High tea at noon, picnics in the park with his closest friends, but then something changed. It is weird, he can’t quite remember, but the life he loved was ripped from him, and he just can’t quite put the pieces together again. His only friend now is the bottle and … well, just the bottle.
All of that is about to change. As his past starts to unfold, he realizes that everything isn’t as bad as it seems. It’s much worse, and the world is hanging in the balance. Can he pull his sh!t together in time, or are we all doomed? Join Crappy in the most epic tail of junk and stuff evar told! $20 for the pair. DKE Toys will have 100 sets.
