The Frame Up: Playmobil's Back to the Future Toy Sets

Toy collectors, especially those of us who remember the 80's-90's, are in the midst of an embarrassment of riches. Not only can we celebrate monthly drops of fantastically crafted action figures of our most iconic modern heroes, but every company out there seems chomping at the bit to perfect our childhood toy hordes and sell it all back to us. Playmobil was long known as a child-safe toy line allowing play in medieval castles, farmsteads, aquariums and the like. In the last few years, they've introduced licensed properties, most of which designed to set off your flashback spidey-senses. It's a rare moment when a company can take on a movie property and make toys that are accurate, well designed, kid-friendly and ridiculously fun. Count Playmobil's Back to the Future line among them!

Playmobil goes back to the future! The iconic DeLorean features folding wheels for hover mode, doors which open upwards, an illuminated flux capacitor inside and illuminated exterior. Also included is plutonium, which can be inserted at the back of the vehicle. The playset is complete with Marty Mcfly and Doc Brown in their outfits from 1985. Includes a plutonium case, skateboard, remote control and Einstein, the dog.

What they don't mention much... IT LIGHTS UP!! Your new mini Delorean blinks a bit and then goes a solid, futuristic (80's) neon Tron blue. The Flux Capacitor inside the car also lights up...a detail you would never expect in a lil kid's toy! I suspect they are making these for us old folks now.

What's missing? The Mr. Fusion swap out for the hover mode. Listen...we can't have everything.
