Lynchian Doc I KNOW CATHERINE, THE LOG LADY Makes Hollywood Premiere 4/17

History of Cool and Next Step Studios are honored to announce the April 17th Hollywood premiere of Richard Green's I Know Catherine, The Log Lady. The moving and intimate documentary is a look at the life and final performance of stage and screen actress and David Lynch collaborator Catherine Coulson.

Weeks after David Lynch announced the return, 25 years later, of his 1990 groundbreaking TV series Twin Peaks, Catherine, best known as the iconic Log Lady, learned she had terminal cancer. Not wanting to disappoint Lynch, her fans and her cast, Catherine struggled to live long enough to play the part of the Log Lady one more time before her own death days later. "The show must go on”.

A Masterpiece in Disarray: David Lynch’s Dune. An Oral History

On September 19, 2023, 1984 Publishing will release A Masterpiece In Disarray: David Lynch’s Dune – An Oral History, a defining 560-page hardcover book weaving together the behind-the-scenes events from all production phases of David Lynch’s Dune, including the film’s immediate aftermath and its controversial legacy almost 40 years later.

Following his underground hit Eraserhead and critically acclaimed The Elephant Man, visionary filmmaker David Lynch set his sights on bringing Frank Herbert’s beloved sci-fi novel Dune to the screen. The project had already vexed directors such as Alejandro Jodorowsky (El Topo) and Ridley Scott (Alien). But by the early ‘80s Lynch was given the keys to the kingdom – and one of the highest film budgets at the time – so that he could lend his surrealistic chops to this sprawling story of feuding space dynasties. They would also hopefully be creating a “Star Wars for adults” franchise-starter. 

A Trip To the 2015 Twin Peaks Festival

In 1990 Twin Peaks changed television forever. The story of a small town rocked by the death of Laura Palmer, high school senior and prom queen, and the dark secrets the investigation unveiled, took audiences to weird and wonderful places. Created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, Lynch brought a cinematic look and sensibility to television for arguably the first time, whereas Frost brought the expertise of long form story telling. The show burned brightly, before burning out. A cultural phenomena in its debut season, by the middle of its second season audiences were losing interest and the show was cancelled. A much darker prequel movie (showing in detail the murder of Laura Palmer) followed, and that was that, or so we believed.

David Lynch Exits New Twin Peaks

You were all looking forward to new episodes of Twin Peaks in this age of wonders when the X-Files has returned and Big Trouble in Little China toys can be found on Toys R Us shelves. Sadly, not all things can return the way we want them. David Lynch took to Twitter to announce the following:

Dear Twitter Friends, Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks. After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done. This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.
