San Diego Comic-Con 2012 : IDW's Exclusives

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 : Warner Bros. Entertanment Presents “Extra"

For the first time ever, Warner Bros. Entertainment will present Extra at Comic-Con®, a free outdoor entertainment festival happening in San Diego’s Bayfront Park July 12–14 during Comic-Con International: San Diego. Bayfront Park is located between the San Diego Convention Center and the Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel.

Located just steps from the Convention Center, Extra at Comic-Con will be a live, multi-day entertainment experience capturing all the excitement of the Studio’s fan-facing properties: From The Lord of the Rings to the DC Universe, they’re all here!

"Everyone at Warner Bros. Television approaches Comic-Con as a fan-first experience. It’s in our DNA, with everything we do — from panels to signings to our bags, posters and more — carefully curated with our fans in mind,” said Lisa Gregorian, Chief Marketing Officer, Warner Bros. Television Group. “With the Extra at Comic-Con space, we have created a free and fun outdoor entertainment destination for fans. In addition to having all the Batmobiles on display and game demos, we will be hosting interviews throughout the day on the Extra stage, as well as evening and night events such as screenings and live comedy and musical performances after the convention floor closes for the day. It’s additive to the experience of being at the Con.”

San Diego Comic-Con Tip #1 : No Butts

This year, when you hit San Diego Comic-Con, we want you to have nothing but fun and avoid those little pitfalls you may not have forseen. Adrianne Curry can name at least one. When displaying her love for the animated character Aeon Flux, she went all out and made sure every aspect of the costume she would wear was precise. Maybe toooo precise. Some would say, if something isn't worth doing right, it shouldn't be done at all. Adrianne Curry did it PERFECTLY...and was asked to return to her hotel and cover her bare butt for it. We applaud her attention to detail....and applaud further this image she shared with the world so we may still drink in the awesome of this incredible costume. We hope somewhere there is a convention where Adrianne's bare ass can roam free of persecution. Sadly, SDCC isn't one of them. It's a family show, folks! Sideboob, underboob and side butt are fine..but know when to say when.

The Amazing Spider-Man Reviewed

As an angry nerd who was raised on comic books, I have a personal stake when Hollywood hijacks one of my beloved comic heroes and has their way with them. Sometimes, we get a disaster like Catwoman. I’ll give you a moment to stop screaming and vomiting. …and we continue. Sometimes we get Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. After watching The Amazing Spider-Man, the older Spider-Man films now play like Tim Burton’s Batman in my head. They are whimsical and fairly non-threatening with too much time spent on overly mushy, mumbly moments where our protagonists drone on about their boundless love, and at the time, it is all we had, so it was good. Peter Parker was super nerdy, Mary Jane was missing a bit of her ka-pow…if you know what I mean…and there was just some element missing. The humor of the comics..the intensity of the action..the depravity of the villains…SOMETHING just did not translate. Even New York was this sort of idealized, convenient Raimi creation. All that is about to change.

Dark Knight Rises Mystery Figure Revealed

Three days til The Amazing Spider-Man drops and our appetites for geek movies is only slightly satisfied...as looming overhead is the film we here at Idle Hands are starting to get reaaaaally excited for.... Batman: The Dark Knight Rises!!! 1 metric dork-ton of merchandise is already languishing on store shelves for the film that has yet to open, but there is still more to come and within those legions lurks an untapped mystery. Mattel let it be known that a set amount of six, 6 inch Movie Masters action figures will contain allthe parts you'll need to build a working mini Bat Signal. Among them are Batman, Bane, Alfred and Catwoman, who are all out now. GCPD Officer John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) takes the 5th spot, but the 6th was being kept a mystery...maybe...until now. If you do not want this spoiled DO NOT read on, as the character has been confirmed as being in the film, so it isn't just a Fun-with-action-figure-assortments sort of thing going on like Iron Man concept armors or comic versions of baddies that never saw screen time. Not all of us read the movie news sites like dope fiends looking for a fix so...Spoiler Warning!

Like Taco Bell in Demolition Man, Toys R Us are the last survivors of the brick and mortar toy store wars and while their prices have started to get a little crazy when compared to prices for the same items in other stores, they'll always have a place in my heart...if not in my wallet. Today Disney Store revealed its exclusive Disney Villains Designer Collection, set to arrive in stores and at DisneyStore.com in early fall. Centered around a series of six limited edition Villains Designer dolls, limited to a worldwide edition of 13,000 each, the collection also includes apparel, beauty products, home items and stationery. Disney Villains Designer Collection products are inspired by those dastardly villains Cruella De Vil (101 Dalmatians), Evil Queen (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), Ursula (The Little Mermaid), Mother Gothel (Tangled), Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty) and the Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland). Disney Store designers re-imagined the villains from these movies to create this line of dramatic dolls, styled in couture fashions.

Back into the art toys isle we go with our best buds at Super 7 (booth #4729) . When a company creates something like a Super Shogun Stormtrooper with firing fist of fury, you know you should be watching them closely. Though there are no Star Wars items on the table this year, they do have a whole slew of translucent, glow in the dark and sparkly characters up for grabs primed and ready to practically join your Finn and Jake Adventure Time action figures in the Land of Ooooo. Hasbro's Amazing Spider-Man Box-O-Doom

Less than one week til The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters and you realize it is a WHOLE NEW BALLGAME! I am no longer under embargo so I can tell you I've been comparing this Spidey reboot in the way we compare Burton's Batman to Nolan's. I'm not saying Raimi's Spider-Man was bad...it is just a different animal all together. The new film shows a Spider-Man who moves like you'd imagine someone infused with irradiated spider DNA would move...twitchy..always tensed and ready to jump..faster than you'd imagine a human being could possibly move and so agile it defies logic. Watching him in action caused me to default to little kid mode..mouth agape and smiling like I'd been struck dumb. More details to come when I crank out my review, because THIS article is reserved for the box of goods Hasbro just sent over!
