Creature Commandoes Go To War

As James Gunn's DC Universe begins to take shape, we are learning about each piece along with visuals and ruminations, giving us a feel for what to expect. Gunn is no stranger to oddball supergroups, so a crew like Creature Commandoes must have been a no brainer. The supernatural strike force should be doubley enticing for a creative who has visited horrific film worlds on more than one occasion. I'll mention SLITHER and DAWN OF THE DEAD as two of my favorites! At a New York Comic Con panel, Gunn remarked "It was written when I started as the CEO of DC Studios. I had talked to Max about creating something after Peacemaker did so well. I talked to Peter Girardi about creating an animated series. I like the Creature Commandos. I love monsters. I love Frankenstein, the story of Bride of Frankenstein. It seemed like the perfect thing to do.”

Batman's E List baddies continue to grab 10 seconds of fame through the animated worlds of Warner Bros and DC Comics. Most often, we get a 5 second gag from the likes of Calendar Man or Crazy Quilt, but SOMETIMES we get an epic episode starring the likes of The Music Meister, leading our favorite heroes to their doom with a snazzy beat. The wacky Harley Quinn cartoon, smeared wall to wall with gross jokes and profanity, was the perfect place for such doofus ne'er-do-well , and so ... Kite Man found a home..and a place in our hearts we didn't know we needed to fill...with a Kite Man. What we didn't expect...was a spin-off!!

GREMLINS: SECRETS OF THE MOGWAI takes viewers back to 1920s Shanghai where the Wing family first meets the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 “Gremlins” film) accepts the dangerous task to take Gizmo home and embarks on a journey through the Chinese countryside. Sam and Gizmo are joined by a teenage street thief named Elle, and together, they encounter—and sometimes battle—colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. Along their quest, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.
