Atlas International Acquires ’Drunken Blade’

Drunken Blade

Atlas International has acquired international sales rights for the Hong Kong action movie Drunken Blade, the latest film from Director/Writer Bingyuan Li. The movie will be released on October 18th in all theatres across China. The announcement was made by Atlas Managing Director Michel J. Vandewalle shortly after the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film is produced by Ying Film Entertainment in association with Beijing Zhenwumen Film, with producers Willie Ying and Man Wu.

Drunken Blade is a Hong Kong action film deeply rooted in traditional Wuxia and Kung Fu martial arts.

Story Overview

The world’s fastest swordsman, known as "Drunken Blade," had originally planned to retire from his life of fighting. However, there was one unfulfilled wish in his heart: to repay the woman who saved his life when he was younger. This woman lives in Baohan Town, a small village under the oppressive rule of the Green Wolf Gang, a powerful group with wealth and influence.

Drunken Blade decides to help the villagers by taking on the gang. But he soon discovers that the villagers have grown so accustomed to their suffering that they are unwilling to resist. Their long history of oppression has made them passive.

In order to break the cycle of despair, Drunken Blade realizes he must sacrifice his own life. He hopes that by giving everything in his fight, he can awaken the villagers’ fighting spirit and restore their sense of hope.

The film stars Bingyuan Li, a Chinese action star known for portraying "Wong Jack Man" in The Legend of Bruce Lee series. His latest film, Fighter, a huge success on streaming platforms, marked his final leading role. The female lead is Yiran Sun, a rising star in Chinese cinema. The film also features Honggang Yao, a real-life MMA fighter and CKF MMA Champion, and Wu Long, China’s strongest man. The cast is a blend of experienced actors, popular influencers, and martial arts champions, bringing authenticity and excitement to the film.

“We are very excited to present Drunken Blade to our international distributors,” says Michel J. Vandewalle, Managing Director of Atlas International. “This movie is packed with action, and it comes from a production house with a proven track record. The collaboration between Willie Ying, a stunt performer from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2, and Bingyuan Li, who was Jet Li's stunt double in Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, brings the golden age of Hong Kong martial arts films back to the big screen. For fans of the genre, this is a must-see.”

“We are thrilled to announce the release of Drunken Blade in theatres across China. It’s a period action film with a message that resonates in today’s world—something we don’t see much coming out of China these days. We’ve worked hard to push boundaries and elevate the film to international standards. This is just the beginning of our journey to bring more films to the global market. I believe there’s still strong demand for high-quality Asian action films with compelling storylines,” adds Willie Ying. "When we make movies, we ensure they are for the people, connecting with our daily lives and experiences. Audiences have been waiting far too long to see an Eastern martial arts film with real heart and depth. Drunken Blade allows us to pay homage to classics like the Japanese Seven Samurai and the Hong Kong film Dragon Inn, both of which have had a lasting impact on martial arts cinema.”

“We’re excited to be working with Atlas International, who were among the first to believe in Kung Fu films and introduced Hong Kong cinema to the world. Films like  A Better Tomorrow by John Woo helped audiences around the world experience the magic of Hong Kong action films,” Ying continues.

Starring Bingyuan Li and Yiran Sun, Drunken Blade is produced by Willie Ying for Ying Film Entertainment in association with Beijing Zhenwumen Film.
