Atlas International Acquires ’Drunken Blade’

Atlas International has acquired international sales rights for the Hong Kong action movie Drunken Blade, the latest film from Director/Writer Bingyuan Li. The movie will be released on October 18th in all theatres across China. The announcement was made by Atlas Managing Director Michel J. Vandewalle shortly after the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film is produced by Ying Film Entertainment in association with Beijing Zhenwumen Film, with producers Willie Ying and Man Wu.

Drunken Blade is a Hong Kong action film deeply rooted in traditional Wuxia and Kung Fu martial arts.

NY Asian Film Festival 2024 : First Wave of Highlights Unveiled

We are thrilled to kick off the 2024 New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) with an incredible lineup of films, special programs, and distinguished guests! As we gear up for another unforgettable celebration of Asian cinema, here are the highlights from the first wave of our announcements.

Akira Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI, Restored in 4K

A new 4K restoration of Akira Kurosawa’s epic masterpiece, SEVEN SAMURAI (1954), starring the legendary Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura, will run at Film Forum (209 West Houston St., New York, NY 10014) from Friday, July 5 through Thursday, July 18.

In 16th century Japan, as proud samurai end up as masterless, wandering ronin and farmers are prostrate under the heel of marauding bandits, a village patriarch counsels resistance. How? Hire samurai, "hungry samurai." Under the calm leadership of Takashi Shimura (Kurosawa regular, star of Ikiru and Godzilla), that magic number enlist for a war against 40 mounted bandits, winding up at the most hair-raising battle ever filmed.

Award-Winning Zombie Horror "The Sadness" Coming To Shudder

Shudder, AMC Network’s premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, has acquired rights to Canadian director Rob Jabbaz’s feature debut The Sadness following its impressive festival run that began at the prestigious 74th annual Locarno Film Festival and celebrated screenings at the Fantasia International Film Festival and Fantastic Fest, where the film took awards for Best First Feature in Montreal and for Best Horror and Best Direction in Austin. The film will be available exclusively on Shudder in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand on Thursday, May 12. 

ARROW Promises a Bloody New Year

Arrow Video is excited to announce the January 2022 lineup of their new subscription-based ARROW platform, available to subscribers in the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland. The January 2022 lineup leads with the ARROW release of Stefan Lernous' hilarious and toe-curling debut feature Hotel Poseidon, available to subscribers in the US, Canada, the UK, and Ireland. Hotel Poseidon made its world premiere at Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film and screened at Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal and Grimmfest in the UK. The film will debut on ARROW January 3 with a host of exclusive extras.

SECRET ZOO Comes to Digital & DVD on November 10th

Dissatisfied with his temp position at a well-known law firm, attorney Tae-su takes an unexpected assignment to help revitalize a failing zoo. Seeing this as a chance to prove himself and move up in the firm, Tae-su discovers instead that the zoo in fact has no real animals. What's worse, he only has 3 months to turn around a seemingly lost cause into a golden opportunity. Enlisting the help of the zoo's bewildered staff, he comes up with an unorthodox solution: have the humans dress up as animals and put on a show for guests. 

And when a video of Tae-su in full polar bear outfit goes unexpectedly viral, the zoo suddenly finds itself the center of attraction for thousands of visitors. But Tae-su's achievements may be undercut by the very firm he thought he was helping, and he'll have to make a decision between loyalty to the corporate success he so long dreamed for and his newfound sense of fulfillment at this most unusual of zoos.

Yuri!!! on ICE Series Marathon in Select Theaters Oct. 13

This fall, anime fans are set to discover that nothing is better than big screen binge-watching the most critically-acclaimed sports anime ever released. Crunchyroll and Fathom Events will bring episodes one through twelve of the ground-breaking animated show “Yuri!!! on ICE” to select U.S. cinemas in a one day marathon with “Yuri!!! on ICE Series Marathon.” In addition to viewing the 12 episodes with friends and fellow fans, attendees will view a video message from the series’ producer along with a “hello” from Makkachin, Victor Nikiforov's pet poodle.

VIZ & Fathom Taking Mazinger Z: Infinity Feature Film to Theaters

Toei Animation Inc. and VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), a premier company in the fields of publishing, animation distribution, and global entertainment licensing, have jointly announced the acquisition of the MAZINGER Z: INFINITY feature film.

MAZINGER Z is one of Japan’s most revered sci-fi properties. The new film, which was produced by Toei Animation, takes place ten years after the conclusion of the famed Mazinger Z TV series. VIZ Media has secured the theatrical, broadcast, digital streaming, EST, and home video rights for the U.S. and Canada from Toei Animation.

"Seoul Station" Tears Into The Korean "Train To Busan" Zombie Mythology

Traditionally, an animated extension of movie mythology tends to come off like a cash grab. Some straight to video, seemingly rushed media meant to appease the fandom of a license and perhaps keep the love alive until the next "serious" project is completed. It's not been long since American audiences were treated to the Korean zombie epic "Train to Busan" (aka Znakes on a Train) and the overwhelmingly positive chatter had just been quieting when we heard an animated prequel was on the way. Of course, we instantly though "cash grab". We'd be wrong.

The "Train to Busan" animated prequel "Seoul Station" is an hour and a half of gut wrenching zombie survival with a completely unprepared populace being overrun by sprinting, enraged, extra bitey zombies who appear to stop at nothing to sink their teeth into living flesh. In "Seoul Station" we are taken very close to the beginning of the zombie outbreak as the homeless are the first to be fed upon, a message not lost on a world audience in these troubling times. Since we've trained ourselves to ignore the homeless, the (zombie) problem is allowed to escalate at an alarming rate until it very literally comes back to bite a large section of the city in the ass.

The NY Asian Film Festival 2015 Lineup

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema announce the lineup today for the 2015 New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), which will take place from June 26 to July 8 at the Film Society and July 9 to 11 at SVA Theatre (333 W. 23rd Street). The Closing Night selection will be announced at a later date. North America’s leading festival of popular Asian cinema will showcase 52 feature films, including 1 World Premiere, 3 International Premieres, 13 North American Premieres, 5 U.S. Premieres, and 14 films making their New York City debuts. The festival will be attended by 18 international filmmakers and celebrity guests traveling from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and the U.S.

Noboru Iguchi's Dead Sushi to Premiere at Fantasia Film Fest

Walker Pictures and Nishimura Eizo have announced that DEAD SUSHI, the latest horror/comedy from acclaimed Japanese director Noboru Iguchi, will World Premiere at Montreal’s prestigious Fantasia International Film Festival on July 22nd, followed shortly thereafter by its Asian Premiere at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan).

Iguchi, best-known for his high-octane 2008 action/comedy The Machine Girl, has become an international sensation with jaw-dropping, boundary-pushing films such as RoboGeisha, Karate-Robo Zaborgar, and Zombie Ass: Toilet of the Dead.
