The Guadalajara Film Festival in Los Angeles (GLAFF) proudly celebrates its Quinceañera this year with a dynamic program that highlights boundary-pushing storytelling and visionary filmmakers from across the United States and Latin America. Fantastic Fest 2023: SPOOKTACULAR!, a Look at the Theme Park from Horror's Golden Age

Spookywood Productions is honored to announce that Fantastic Fest will host the World Premiere of Spooktacular!, director Quinn Monahan's gripping documentary that unravels the secrets behind SpookyWorld, America's iconic Halloween extravaganza, which set the template for the multi-billion-dollar industry of terror. Presented by executive producer Tom Savini, Spooktacular! will bow in Austin at the largest genre film festival in the US, specializing in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and action movies from all around the world. Tickets are on sale now for the screenings of master director Hayao Miyazaki’s romantic fantasy Howl’s Moving Castle, the tenth film in the Studio Ghibli Fest 2023 lineup. GKIDS, celebrating its 15th anniversary as producer and distributor of multiple Academy Award®-nominated animated features, and Fathom Events, are proud to continue their collaboration for Studio Ghibli Fest 2023, and deliver a slate highlighting all ten of Hayao Miyazaki’s iconic animated films with Studio Ghibli, as well as the first-ever North American screenings of SPIRITED AWAY: Live On Stage.

The film will be shown in both original Japanese and English dubbed versions. In addition to the full feature, audiences will get to view exclusive selections from the documentary series 10 Years with Hayao Miyazaki.

U.S. Genre Film Festivals Unite for Virtual Event NIGHTSTREAM October 8 - 11

In response to the many challenges impacting the film community amid the Covid-19 pandemic, and the concerns of safety and security that presently come with physical exhibition and festivals, a collective online initiative will be launched by organizers of a number of American genre festivals for the upcoming fall season to offer a singular experience for U.S. audiences. Together the Boston Underground Film Festival (MA), Brooklyn Horror Film Festival (NY), North Bend Film Festival (WA), the Overlook Film Festival (LA), and Popcorn Frights Film Festival (FL) will join forces under the banner of NIGHTSTREAM to present a dynamic and accessible virtual festival, to run from Oct. 8-11.

Programmers from all five festivals will collaborate on the NIGHTSTREAM feature film line up, and these films will be recognized as an official selection of each festival entity as well. The short film programs will be individually curated by each fest, along with a full slate of live events and panels taking place over the weekend. The lineup is expected to be announced in late September.

New York Asian Film Festival 2016 Lineup!

Looking for KUNG FU MADNESS!!??!! I'm not talking your average Kung Fu madness...i'm talking the kind where a guy gets cut and bleeds for 3 hours as the credits roll at the end. THIS IS THE SORT OF THING I HAVE WITNESSED AT THE NEW YORK ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL!! Granted, the lineup is not always so blood soaked, with plenty of offerings to be seen involving drama, comedy, lust and female assassins with machine guns for arms...and sometimes butts. The thing to focus on here is that there is NO better place to watch amazing current Asian releases as well as a classic or two that may make your head explode. No promises....but I do see Stephen Chow's name down there...

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema announced today the complete lineup for the 15th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), which will take place from June 22 to July 5 at the Film Society and July 6 to 9 at the SVA Theatre (333 West 23rd Street). North America’s leading festival of popular Asian cinema will showcase 51 feature films, including one World Premiere, one International Premiere, 16 North American premieres, 2 U.S. Premieres, and 14 films making their New York City debuts. Featuring in-person appearances by more than 30 international filmmakers and celebrity guests from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.

Australia’s MONSTER FEST Opens Submissions for Features, Shorts and Expanded Cinema Projects

Monster Fest has announced that submissions are now open for Features, Short Films and Expanded Cinema Projects, with an Early Bird Deadline of April 29, a Regular Deadline of June 3 and a final, Extended Deadline of August 12, 2016.

Australia’s premier festival of cult, horror and the fantastic, Monster Fest returns for its sixth edition November 24-27, 2016at the Lido Cinemas in Melbourne, with support from Screen Australia.

Fantasia Film Festival 2015: Horror & Metal, The Perfect Mix

I started my second day in Montreal with a long walk down Sherbrooke, McGill, and Ste-Catherine Street, from my hotel to Atwater metro station, slowly going about my day and taking photos of random things as I tend to do when left to own devices in any city. This was once my city, but I never used to take many photos around town, so I intend on correcting this. My obsession with lighting fixtures continues! I have taken far too many photos of them and will keep on doing so until I have ALL of them.

Horrible Imaginings Film Festival October 10th through October 12th

The fifth annual Horrible Imaginings Film Festival is descending upon North Park’s intimate Digital Gym Cinema again this year, continuing its position as San Diego’s closest look at the dark side of cinema. The film festival will include over 40 feature and short films showcasing the best talent from around the world, informative presentations from UCSD professors, revivals of classic and influential films in the horror genre, as well as question and answer sessions from filmmakers themselves. The regular “San Diego Local Spotlight” remains a prominent feature, highlighting work done from filmmakers in and around the San Diego area.

Notable feature films include “Dead Snow: Red Vs. Dead” the sequel to Tommy Wirkola’s popular Icelandic zombie film “Dead Snow,” “Another World,” a post-apocalyptic zombie film billed as the first action sci-fi film from Israel, “Soulmate,” a beautiful and haunting ghost story produced by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) and directed by Axelle Carolyn, “Call Girl of Cthulhu,” a tongue-in-cheek play on HP Lovecraft’s popular Cthulhu Mythos, and “Hi-8: Horror Independent,” an anthology ode to straight-to-video horrors of yore featuring San Diego filmmakers.

SXSW 2014: A Heather Buckley Adventure

Prologue: After much adventure through these past weeks, these notes were written on the way to a shattered city—a pile of rusted steel known as Detroit. If it is one thing we can say, to keep adventuring, is to keep the spirit alive at its fullest and fan the fire which will always hunger for more. I have not stopped moving since the film shoot went down in Odessa, TX.

It was first brought to my attention that a 4k restoration of Texas Chain Saw Massacre was to be premièred at SXSW 2014. A relentless classic. Imitated. Worshiped. And Tobe Hooper was going to be there. Austin: the hometown of the saw. And the saw has always been family.

It was too late for press sponsorship at that point— I was off in Upstate New York doing FX shop coordination for We Are Still Here— when the deadline hit on February 5^th. I asked about 12 of my peers: Was it worth it, could you do it with a pass? All agreed this was possible...but the madness of it all! I booked my flight, found a place to stay though my beloved Texas crew and off I went without a badge. To Texas.

Wizard World Film Festival To Debut At Wizard World Ohio

Movies have always been a big part of the Wizard World experience, from superstar celebrity appearances to film screenings to blockbuster sneak peeks at its pop culture celebrations across North America.  Now, aspiring filmmakers can tap into that rabid fan base with today's announcement of the Wizard World Film Festival, now accepting submissions for its final three events of 2013, beginning with Wizard World Ohio Comic Con, Sept. 20-22.

The Wizard World Film Festival, which will continue at Wizard World Nashville Comic Con (Oct. 18-20) and Wizard World Austin Comic Con (Nov. 22-24), will include feature length (30 minutes or more) films, shorts, student shorts, documentaries, animation, experimental and music videos.  Screenings of the top entries in all categories will take place in programming rooms throughout each of the shows, during and after the regular show hours, free to all Wizard World Comic Con attendees.  Awards will be presented at the conclusion of each convention.

Fantasia 2013: Big Bad Wolves Reviewed

A killer is on the loose. This psychopath abducts young girls and after he has his way with them in every horrible way possible, he leaves them to be found, spread out in all their horror…missing their heads. It’s a sick message. “I’ve given you your daughter back, only because I am done with her, but you’ll never have all of her.” Miki is a police detective who is dead certain they have their man, but the little guy won’t confess his crimes no matter how much they try to beat it out of him. When his latest stomp-fest goes viral, Miki is off the case, but not off the hunt. As he stalks an unassuming teacher of religion, waiting for this man to strike again, another watches them both…and when things don’t escalate as quickly as either had hoped, they take matters into their own hands. Now the lines are drawn but at the same time, blurred. Miki wants justice, but he will only go so far to get the truth. This clashes with the agenda of Gidi, the father of the killer’s last victim, who is also certain the killer is in front of him and is fully resigned to torture the man as horribly as he tortured his victims. All the while, the teacher tied up before them sticks to his claims of innocence even in the face of grisly torture. Could they have the wrong man?

Fantasia: VHS2 Reviewed

Horror’s newest Anthology series makes a speedy return with a second helping of quick creepers, all conveniently transferred to VHS tapes from their respective GoPros and HD Cams…cuz ghosts got mad editing skillz. Silly wrap around premise aside, I had a blast with the first round and have been looking forward to another helping, wondering how they might top a demon bird woman looking to get laid. The mind boggles. This time out, we kick things off with a man who gets an experimental camera eye replacement, allowing us to view the world whilst nestled snugly in his cranium. The one catch to this free cyborg upgrade..the eye allows the host to see ghosts and as most horror films go…when you can see them, they can see you..and touch you..and throttle you. Luckily a young woman who had a similar surgery and can now hear the ghosts comes to our boy’s rescue, saving him with her boobs and not much else, but at least she gave it a shot (and he gave her a shot. Sorry I had to. It was in my contract.) This segment is a quick guilty pleasure with no real direction and the sort of ghosts that just stand there while folks run off into the bathroom..which is, of course, the safest place in the house AND impenetrable to ghosts...until it isn't. But hey..at least there were boobs.

HORROR IS CHILD’S PLAY – DON MANCINI’S CURSE OF CHUCKY (WORLD PREMIERE)
A rarity among genre franchises, the CHILD’S PLAY series (begun in 1988) has retained the sure-handed guidance of original screenwriter/creator Don Mancini throughout killer doll Chucky’s decades’-long reign of horror. Mancini, who will be hosting our “scar-studded” world premiere, graduated to the director’s chair with 2004’s SEED OF CHUCKY, after having co-written or written every entry in the series. His longevity with the project is, of course, matched by the fiendish voiceover work by the incomparable Brad Dourif as Chucky, as well as the enduring input of producer David Kirschner (FRAILTY). For the new CURSE, SEED OF CHUCKY FX master Tony Gardner (ARMY OF DARKNESS, DARKMAN) brings the deadly doll back to life once more through ingenious puppeteering work. CURSE OF CHUCKY returns Chucky to the scarier roots of the series’ initial entries, going more for the jugular than the funnybone. World Premiere.
