Dredd Gears Up for Friday's Release

This Friday, a gentleman named Karl Urban will put on a helmet and vows he will NEVER TAKE IT OFF. Whilst in this helmet, he will only answer to the name Judge Dredd, will only appear in 3D and will not be doing any lines from Star Trek...so don't ask. To build your excitement for this latest comic book to film release, the powers that be have sent over a little featurette...

Gear up with this NEW featurette from DREDD 3D as stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, writer Alex Garland and series creator John Wagner give a behind-the-scenes look at the tools and arsenal outfitting the infamous Mega City One lawman -- just in time for its release this FRIDAY!

Judgement Is Coming in DREDD

Things we must assure you of going into September (soon enough) when building your anticipation of Dredd and simultaneously erasing the train wreck that was the Stallone version from your minds...

1. Dredd will keep his god damn helmet on.
2. Dredd does not have a plucky sidekick
3. If Dredd makes a joke, it is probably unintentional and made funny because he is standing on a pile of bodies. Piles of bodies make everything funnier.

Some have said Dredd may as well be "The Raid: Redemption" with your favorite 2000AD comic book character in the starring role, so that should give you a sense of the non-stop killfest we are in for! Here's the newest eye candy to close the deal...

Dredd Trailer Goes LIVE

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

DREDD is Coming For You

On days when I am not too busy, I like to clear my mind of all disturbances, annoyances and horrible movies I would be better off forgetting. The original Judge Dredd movie is one of those items. Now, I imagine Karl Urban putting a giant sized hand cannon up to the head of that film and pulling the trigger until the clip is empty. It is therapeutic.

Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film. Filmed in 3D with stunning slow motion photography sequences, the film returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

DREDD will open on Friday, September 21st, 2012.
