Sea Monster Cove High School Combines Academics with Entertainment

It’s been 27 years since Steve Alten’s first release, MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror, made its hardback debut, surfacing on every bestseller list, including the NY Times. But it was not until the mass-market paperback came out in the spring of 1998 that Alten’s page-turner found its true audience.       
“I became inundated with hundreds of emails from high school students, who were all basically telling me the same thing … ‘Mr. Alten, I HATE reading, but I LOVE MEG,’” Alten recalled. “Teachers were next, emailing me about catching students sneak-reading my novel in the library … ‘I didn’t think they knew we even had a library.’"

BookExpo, UnBound & BookCon Moved to 2021

Today, ReedPop announced that due to the escalation of COVID-19 globally, the next edition of BookExpo, UnBound and BookCon will now take place in the spring of 2021.

The events were previously postponed from their original May dates to late July, however, as the pandemic has continued to escalate in the United States and we see the challenges it has brought for the book industry, it is clear that 2020 is no longer a viable option for this community.

BEA 2018: Spin Master's Moonlite Innovates Story Time

Here's one that slipped right past us, but waved hello at the NY Book Expo a little while back. Inspired by her daughter's love of shadow play before bedtime, mother and former Google veteran, Natalie Rebot created Moonlite, a children's story book projector that attaches to almost any mobile phone and uses the flashlight of the phone to project vibrant story images onto the ceiling or wall. Moonlite brings storybooks to life with a modern twist on traditional storytelling that makes reading a fun and memorable event for both children and parents.

Rebot launched her initial prototype and concept on Kickstarter.com where funding goals were surpassed ten-fold, with more than 40 million views to date on the product's original video. As a result, Moonlite caught the attention of retailers, celebrities, receptive mothers and Spin Master who embraced the partnership.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY IS TOMORROW!!

Just a quick reminder that tomorrow, most likely at your humble local comic shop, there will be free comic books for all who love them, and those who have been comic-curious after being inundated with movies and merchandise everywhere you look. I will also point out that this doubles as "hug your local comic shop owner day", because while the comic books are free for you, they are not free for the comic shops participating. Where ever you might be attending, be sure to give them hugs, bring them cookies, tweet about their store goings on and make sure to generally show them how much you appreciate them on this high holy day. Required Reading: How Not To Be A Dick

“How Not To Be A Dick: An Everyday Etiquette Guide” by Meghan Doherty (from Zest Books) is such a fun book and is incredibly essential to being a good person. The sarcastic title gets right to the point of its message. I literally could not put this book down. Ask Paul, he was a witness. Every apartment with two or more roommates should keep a copy of this book in the living room, right next to the TV remote. “How Not To Be A Dick” is a great short read with lots of tips to proper etiquette styled to the iconic “Dick and Jane” book formats, but with current references to pop icons, embarrassing celebrity mishaps, and cheese logs (SOOO MANY CHEESE LOGS).
