Toy Fair 2014: JAKKS Pacific's 2014 Lineup with Maleficent, Nintendo, Disney Pirate Fairies & More

Toy Fair kicks off later today with a giant sized helping of Hasbro products, followed by the actual show opening its doors Sunday morning. Until then, we are sure to see the press releases fall like rain...or snow...as is the case on the east coast. No more snow. Please lord...please. ~the shoveling...~ Today, JAKKS unleashed their 2014 lineup, and while there are no accompanying pictures, information on a new Nintendo toy line and Maleficent products add to the building anticipation for the actual product reveals at the show....something we haven't had much of this year! Let's dive right in...

Meleficent Trailer #2

The first trailer for Meleficent set up a foreboding, creepy fairy tale of an innocent girl coming face to face with a dark and powerful force in the guise of a bewitching woman (pun intended). Now, a new trailer surfaces, utilizing music that speaks more of wonder than horrors and imagery that mirrors classic Disney over..say..Hansel and Gretyl: Witch Hunters. It's a HUGE shift in tone I don't think anyone saw coming, but maybe this new trailer says more about the film than the previous trailer hinted at? An interesting turn of events, to say the least.  On the doorstep of 2014, Disney reports in on their film slate for the year and HOLY DAMN GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY IS SO DAMN FAR AWAY I'M GONNA DIIIIIE!!! Yea..so...there's some other movies as well. I hear Captain America is amazing and Into the Woods will leave many a teary eye in every theater. Let's check out the rest!

D23 Expo: Marvel Movies & More Live Action Films

Steve Sievers, Chelsea Sievers and lil baby Sievers took to Disney's D23 convention on behalf of Idle Hands and sent over this report on all the Marvel Studios talk at the show. Well, to be honest, it appears Steve and Chelsea were doing all the work while the baby was just lumping around looking cute. YOU CAN'T GET BY ON YOUR LOOKS YOUR WHOLE LIFE BABY!!! Thor: The Dark World opened with the same footage from San Diego Comic-Con 2013, which is pretty much extended scenes you see in the new trailer. Stars Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins took to the stage with Tom immediately apologizing for not being dressed up as Loki. Many in the crowd cheer him on to sing but he said sorry, not today.

Production Started on Disney's Maleficent

The Walt Disney Studios announced today that production began Wednesday, June 13th, on “Maleficent,” starring Academy Award®–winning actress Angelina Jolie. Directed by two-time Oscar®-winning production designer Robert Stromberg (“Avatar,” “Alice in Wonderland”), in his directorial debut, and produced by Joe Roth, “Maleficent” is written by Linda Woolverton (“The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast”) and executive produced by Angelina Jolie, Don Hahn, Matt Smith and Palak Patel.
