Your First Full Length Look at CBS's Supergirl
OH MAN...here we go. Remember when Wonderwoman was coming to TV and then we heard there was singing and quirkiness and odd wrongly emphasized stereotypical overly-girly fluff? Forget all that. This show looks awesome. Maybe. I hope.
SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents' help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.

DC Comics Girls Makeup Packs
Mark another product line into your "stealth release" logs. Wandering into Five Below always reveals a multitude of pop culture products...some I've seen before and am now ecstatic to find at deep discount...and some I've never seen before and wondered how the initial release slipped past me and allllll the geeks I know...because that's a pretty long list! You see, by the time an item reaches Five Below, we can assume it has enjoyed a wide release with as much or as little fanfare as the manufacturer will allow, then several month languishing on the pegs before the remainder is closed out to our discounty friends. After a bit of research, we discovered this DC Comics Girls line of nail polish, lip ka-balms, lip gloss and press on nails turned up in Walmart as far back as September (or at least that's where it was spotted by Nouveau Cheap Blogspot). Now, in their new home at Five Below, thrifty super women and young ladies can enjoy the line at three dollars a pop.

Superman Unbound Blu-ray Reviewed
**SPOILER WARNING. DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING REVEALED TO YOU!** Writing a new Superman story must always be challenging. You've got this alien being who is invulnerable, super fast, super strong, ice breathe, heat vision, he can fly and on and on. It takes a lot to smack this guy upside the head and make him even acknowledge it happened, so for me, the most compelling Superman stories have always been about his humanity and his heart. He's an alien, so even though he looks human, he never quite feels like one of us. Just think of how he perceives the world with super amplified senses. It's enough to drive one away from all human contact, but there he sits in the middle of an overpopulated city, pretending to be someone far weaker than he really is. In the past, animated films like All Star Superman and Superman VS The Elite have explored these frailties in the Man of Steel with excellent writing alongside the super powered action we've come to expect. That is surely one way to make a killer animated super hero film. Another is to pit him against an equally powerful alien force, strong enough to make him question whether he is up to the task, and let him pound it out.

Superman Unbound
As is tradition when the latest DC Universe Animated Original Movie drops in our lap, we provide you with a preview of the next film in line! Would it kill Warner Brothers to make a movie that isn't Batman or Superman or Batman and Superman at least ONCE a year? Yes...yes it would...so we present...the next Superman epic...SUPERMAN UNBOUND...
The story is loosely adapted from the 5 issue mini series "Superman: Braniac" having something to do with Superman being over protective of the ones he loves, Supergirl finding out her parents are within the Bottled City of Kandor (the last remaining piece of Krypton, miniaturized and kept safe by Superman) and Brainiac treating the man of steel as if he were a minor annoyance...like a gnat to be swatted away. Brainiac is looking to scoop up Metropolis and use it as a source for information about the planet Earth before he destroys it. There's said to be a lot of the powerhouse throwdowns we love to see in these DC animated films, but also a very heavy emotional side to the story. The DC Animation Crew is looking to veer away from following the comic stories beat for beat in the future.

Super Best Friends Forever

Mind blown?! It's like Powerpuff Girls with awesome DC Comics characters, right? If you loved this, do a quick google search for Plastic Man and Animal Man from DC Nation as well! Now..if we could get some of this genius to rub off on Marvel/ Disney who chose to overdub their classic cartoons in the most unfunny way possible as their interstitials...all would be right with the world!
DC Nation airs Saturday Mornings on Cartoon Network.

DC's New 52 : Week 4 Reviews

Nuff said..on with the show!! Last week was a mixed bag of dislike and like, but I'm happy to report this week's batch left me with far more to smile about.

So, how do we re-introduce Batman to the world? We throw the entire populace of Arkham Asylum at him! Right out of the gate we see Batman doing what he does best; namely taking down his top villains with the crunch of bone and crashing of glass as his theme music. To be sure, this is the most clever way to say to those old school readers "Settle down! As you see, all your favorite baddies are still kicking in the New52, albeit with some slight tweaking to their looks here and there." Happily, you'll find these re-designs not far from anything we've seen in the past and nowhere near as drastic as those in "The Batman" cartoon which had Joker running around barefoot with a straight jacket on. I will point out an appearance by The Joker which had him sporting the slit-mouth look rather than the classic mug they already established in Detective Comics #1. Odd, but not unforgivable in the context of this story. This is a "getting to know you" issue on one hand, while in the other, a way to show die hard fans what is new in this universe. Gordon still meets a shadowy figure on a rooftop from time to time, the Bat Cave still sports a giant penny and robotic dinosaur, Dick Grayson is still up for a little backup if the situation calls for it and Tim Drake and Damian Wayne are still very much welcome at Wayne Manor. Oh..and Alfred is not CGI. Most importantly, Batman #1 sets a tone. This is Gotham, and it belongs to The Bat. He's got every street wired and every good man on his side...and he'll need all this in play when a savage new killer surfaces, making him doubt the goodness in those men he holds closest. Batman #1 is constantly entertaining, parading out old friends (good and evil alike) to present a force for hope amid the chaos threatening to swallow this city whole every day. This is CLASSIC Batman at its finest with a sharp look to compliment those dark alleys and crazed expressions while also enhancing the humanity behind every genuine smile and snarky smirk. If the tone and tempo of this book are any indication, we are in for one excellent ride.

One note: In Hawk and Dove, I'd swear we are looking at post "Blackest Night" Deadman..who is actually LIVE man..as in back from the dead. If that is the case, why are we following the exploits of still dead Deadman in this book? For a cohesive new universe, I sure do find myself confused more often than not.

Quick Note: Read Batman first, then Nightwing. It seems Batgirl 2 will spill over into this story line as well.

SDCC: The Sexy Super Women of Kotobukiya

Marvel Comics Invisible Woman SDCC 2011 Exclusive Bishoujo Statue: MARVEL INVISIBLE WOMAN SDCC 2011 EXCLUSIVE BISHOUJO STATUE A KOTOBUKIYA Japanese import! Kotobukiya is proud to present its convention exclusive for San Diego Comic-Con 2011, a new variant edition of the hit Marvel Comics Fantastic Four bishoujo statue: INVISIBLE WOMAN SDCC 2011 EXCLUSIVE! In the first issue of Fantastic Four in 1961 Sue Storm was a member of Reed Richards’ doomed spaceflight that encountered cosmic radiation, imbuing the four humans onboard with strange abilities. With powers of invisibility and force field creation, Sue became the Invisible Woman (though at first she was the Invisible “Girl”) and a core member of the Fantastic Four! The first version of the character in the amazing Marvel Bishoujo collection (combining iconic superheroines and villains with traditional Japanese stylings) captured the character in her modern outfit with special translucent effects. Now Sue Storm is back again featuring her classic 1980s costume and some great special features, all based on an original character reinterpretation by illustrator Shunya Yamashita!
Purchase limits of 1 per person will be in effect and preorders will ship after Comic-Con.
Stands just over 9 inches tall. Scale 1/7th
This exclusive version is limited to just 500 pieces. $59.99
This is a SDCC 2011 exclusive with limited availability to fan who are Not-Attending Comic-Con 2011

Based on the current “New Earth” version of the character and costume and inspired by Supergirl #5, Evil Supergirl arrives on the scene literally floating in the clouds! Dressed in her malevolent two piece black, silver, and vermilion outfit consisting of a very short skirt and midriff-baring top along with knee-length boots, the young Kryptonian proves that bad can look oh so good. Evil Supergirl flies on top of a small cloud formation, twisting to look behind her (and in the process showing off her long legs and just a peek at her silver panties). She’s even joined by an evil, black caped version of her faithful kitty companion Streaky the Supercat! Supergirl’s beautiful flowing blonde hair is further accented by translucent material, and perfectly frames her Bishoujo-styled face with its new yellow eyes and dark makeup.
Early premiere release! Purchase limits of 1 per person will be in effect and preorders will ship after Comic-Con.
Constructed of high-quality pvc. Standing nearly 10 inches tall. Scale ultimate 1/7. Sculpted by Masahiro “Gill Gill” Takahashi.
