Warner Bros Releases WTF Inducing Batman Vs Superman Trailer

Let's just get this out of the way...and then I have words. Many, many words...

Let me begin by saying I loved the Captain America: Civil War trailer. I'll add I've been reading comics pretty much my entire life with most of my childhood immersed in DC and then moving into Marvel in my early teens, and while I can honestly say I spend more time loving Marvel, I can't say I love any one universe more than the other. Batman is pretty much cooler than 60% of the Marvel Universe...so there you go. Like many fans my age, Bruce Timm's DC Animated Universe stands as the highest achievement in telling the tales of the DC Comics Universe, adapted for a younger audience while staying true to the older fans. In my opinion, if you want to successfully re-create that universe for the big screen, you start by talking to Bruce.

That's not what's been happening...for years now.

The Batman V Superman Trailer Premiere

TODAY'S THE DAY!!! (written yesterday night..published today because allergies) Tens of twenties of fans flocked to theaters across America to see the new trailer for Warner Bros. Batman Vs. Superman in eye-exploding IMAX clarity. Of course I kid, because honestly, all you have to say is BATMAN and you will generate a line of people who will only ask what they are lining up for after the first hour. My crowd at the New Brunswick, NJ Loews movie theater seemed as if they would be content just collecting an awesome teaser poster and a T shirt before being sent on their way. I arrived an hour and a half before the screening and there were already 20 people positioned like little DC Comics soldiers with heads pointed at their phone screens, ready for the wait that lie ahead.

Dissecting the Batman VS Superman Batman Outfit

Yesterday, Director Zack Snyder gave us a slight flash of the back end of his new Batmobile for the Batman Vs Superman film (aka The Justice League..or so we can assume since they've cast practically the whole bloody team). Of course, that was enough to set the geek world ablaze. Consensus of opinions..based on that sliiiiiver of vehicle peeking out from the tarp... it is probably a mix of the old school Burton Batmobile and the Nolan Tumbler. That profile certainly backs up that assessment. While giving this tiny peek, Snyder also teased he might show the whole thing today. What we got was a little different...

Ben Affleck is Batman. Discuss.

He kicked ass in Argo. Undeniable. Can he be the steely, brooding World's Greatest Detective (a role, I might add, WE have yet to see in any Batman film) we've been waiting for, standing toe to toe with  the Man of Steel? Welp, all we know is that WE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING...but the release date, which is now July 2015. Well..we do know a little. Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, the current movie Superman, and a sizable chunk of established actors from the Man of Steel film...and Walter White (Bryan Cranston) from breaking Bad as Lex Luthor. Director Zack Snyder stated “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.” David S. Goyer handles the writing duties once again.

...and now you have 2 years to get used to this. LOOK AT IT!!!

Snyder's Superman Revealed

Ahhh..those scaley costumes. Is this really the only way we can re-interpret our classic hero costumes for the real world? It doesn't look horrible, but I'm reminded of blue lizards on first glance....and I don't suppose that is what they were going for.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have provided the first look at the new “Man of Steel,” revealing star Henry Cavill as Superman in the film from director Zack Snyder.

The film also stars three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Fighter”) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”).

Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue. Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Julia Ormond, and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”).

Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.

“Man of Steel” is being produced by Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, from a story by Goyer and Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
Currently in production, “Man of Steel” is slated for release on June 14, 2013.

I love the casting...and I still love Snyder even though I wasn't too keen on Sucker Punch..so this is still a wait and see. DC Comics needs a win BADLY to green light further hero films, so let's hope this one is the mind blowing epic we've been waiting for.

Sucker Punch Review

High Concept is a term we throw out there when a movie is so bat shit crazy and over the top but at the same time introduces the audience to heaping helpings of amazing eye candy, the likes of which may have you grinning like a 6 yr old boy seeing a Batman movie for the first time. Sometimes they work...sometimes they give you a brain aneurysm. Sucker Punch is one such movie, not unlike the sticky, fevered dreams of those who create Final Fantasy films and video games. Scantly clad, super powered ninja girls battle Kung Fu robots, giant Samurai wielding gatling guns, Goblins, undead steampunk Nazis and even a fire breathing dragon in a series of dreamscapes conjured by a girl named Baby Doll who is desperately trying to break free from her hellish human confines. Is there more story than this? Nope...but the colors sure are pretty!!

Diane Lane To Play Martha Kent in Snyder Superman

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Oscar®-nominated actress Diane Lane will play Martha Kent, the only mother Clark Kent has ever known, in the new Superman movie to be directed by Zack Snyder.

Snyder stated, “This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”

Lane will star with Henry Cavill, who was recently announced as the new Clark Kent/Superman.

Lane earned an Academy Award® nomination for her performance in the 2002 drama “Unfaithful.” She most recently starred in the family hit “Secretariat.” She next stars in the HBO feature “Cinema Verite,” opposite Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini. Lane’s long list of film credits also includes “Nights in Rodanthe,” “Hollywoodland,” “Must Love Dogs,” “Under the Tuscan Sun,” “Perfect Storm,” “My Dog Skip,” “Chaplin,” “The Cotton Club” and “A Little Romance,” to name only a portion.

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Slated for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

My first thought? DAMN Superman's mom is hot. Obviously we are going to see Clark as a young boy, otherwise Lane is waaaay too young for the role. Then again, we did just have Winona Ryder as Zachary Quinto's mom in Star Trek, so Hollywood trickery will be afoot fo sho.

New Sucker Punch Vid & Eye Candy

Even though I've now seen Tron and was fairly underwhelmed, I'm still psyched for the insanity of Sucker Punch! It's Zack Snyder. He made fucking OWLS doing battle in medieval garb fun to watch. The man can do no wrong. We've got battle mech suits, fire breathing dragons, evil WWII looking storm troopers, giant gatling gun toting Samurai with glowing eyes, soulless robots and hot girls blowing everything to kingdom come. What's not to love? Now Warner Brothers drops some Holiday cheer on us with a featurette stacked miles high with new footage to oooo, ahhhh and Oh Holy Shit over. Observe...

Close your eyes. Open your mind. You will be unprepared. "Sucker Punch" is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what's real and what is imaginary. She has been locked away against her will, but Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls--the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish)--to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm). Led by Babydoll, the girls engage in fantastical warfare against everything from samurais to serpents, with a virtual arsenal at their disposal. Together, they must decide what they are willing to sacrifice in order to stay alive. But with the help of a Wise Man (Scott Glenn), their unbelievable journey--if they succeed--will set them free.

*UPDATED: Sooo..What the Hell is Sucker Punch About?!

This was the question I was asked even after people saw the trailer we ran at several conventions. The second question being; So the giant samurais, dragons, robots, hot girls with ninja weapons...that's all in one movie?! Yep...get ready for an instant cult classic...

Sucker Punch Trailer Goes LIVE!!

INSANITY. Zack Snyder is a go-to guy. He makes something and we watch it. It's a simple equation. He hasn't let me down yet and if the eye candy just posted for Sucker Punch is any indication, he NEVER WILL. Sure, he once told me the perspective on the back of my old business card with Optimus Prime fighting Batman was off so Optimus would never hit Batman and thus..stalemate...but I can't hold that against him! (Batman would win, FYI) My love for 300 and Watchmen over rides any attempted direction of my dorkiness. And now...there's the new teaser! Click the art to dive in.

WB 2010 Preview Kit

Warner Brothers gives us a look at the colossal lineup of films for 2010.

THE BOOK OF ELI (Action Adventure) - January 15
Plot: A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.
My Two Bits: I've seen the trailer a couple of times now and not exactly sure what it's about except there's some apocalypse theme and Denzel is a complete bad ass in it. When the world ends, I know whose mansion I'm camping out in front of. Also, Denzel was rubbing himself in a video I shot at San Diego Comic Con and Gary Oldman said something to the effect that he was a sexy beast, so, while I'm slightly scarred and still confused, I'm in.

EDGE OF DARKNESS (Suspense Thriller) - January 29
Plot: As homicide detective Thomas Craven investigates the death of his activist daughter, he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence.
My Two Bits: Mel with gun, without a beard and crazy eyes = I'm in.

CLASH OF THE TITANS (Action Fantasy) - March 26

Plot: The mortal son of the god Zeus embarks on a perilous journey to stop the underworld and its minions from spreading their evil to Earth as well as the heavens.
My Two Bits: Holy damn am I in. The original is a classic, but stop motion animation (while it can never be replaced) only took us so far into mythology. Now, with cutting edge CGI, I can't wait to see what they've done. If this does insanely well, expect to see other tales of Mythology slapped up on the big screen...for better or for worse. Hercules in New York remake? It could happen.

THE LOSERS (Action Thriller) - April 9

Plot: After being betrayed and left for dead, members of a CIA black ops team root out those who targeted them for assassination.
My Two Bits: It can go either way. Shoot em ups are either tiresome and formulaic or hysterically fun, and I'm always hoping for the latter!

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (Horror) - April 30

Plot: Kid toucher/killer is burned alive by the parents and returns, years later, in the dreams of the vigilante group's children to end their lives in horrible ways.
My Two Bits: Still too soon to tell how it will turn out, but I like Platinum Dune's track record so far and Jackie as Freddy interests me, so I'm in.

JONAH HEX (Action Thriller) - June 18

Plot: In the Wild West, a scarred bounty hunter tracks a voodoo practitioner bent on liberating the South by raising an army of the undead.

My Two Bits: The Old West, a scarred gunfighter from the pages of DC Comics and zombies? Sold.

INCEPTION (Sci-Fi Action) - July 16

Trippiest trailer ever, no?
GUARDIANS OF GA’HOOLE (Fantasy Adventure) - September 24

Plot: Soren, a young barn owl, is kidnapped by owls of St. Aggie's, ostensibly an orphanage, where owlets are brainwashed into becoming soldiers. He and his new friends escape to the island of Ga'Hoole, to assist its noble, wise owls who fight the army being created by the wicked rulers of St. Aggie's. The film is based on the first three books in the series.
My Two Bits: Directed by Zack (Watchmen/ 300) Snyder? Sold.

PRISONERS (Suspense Thriller) - Fall

Plot: A man, feeling failed by the system, takes matters into his own hands and captures the individual he feels is responsible for the kidnapping of his daughter and her friend. Torture is on the agenda.

My Two Bits: I don't even know enough to be snarky.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS - PART 1 (Fantasy Adventure) - November 19

Plot: Voldemort's power is growing stronger. He now has control over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione decide to finish Dumbledore's work and find the rest of the Horcruxes to defeat the Dark Lord.

My Two Bits: The last episode, while darker and slicker..and in my opionion far better than the film that came before it, seemed like a very child/ cartoon adventure with the quest for the parts of the thing that will save them all sort of story line. I'm hoping the newest installment brings a bit more to the table and I'll be there to find out.

YOGI BEAR (Live-Action/CG Animated Adventure in 3D) - December 17 (I shit you not.)

Plot: A documentary filmmaker (Anna Faris) travels to Jellystone Park to shoot a project and soon crosses paths with Yogi Bear, his sidekick Boo-Boo, and Ranger Smith.

My Two Bits: Still having flash backs of the Bullwinkle live action fiasco. Must we do this again? Justin Timberlake as Boo-Boo and Dan Arkroyd as Yogi. Umm........
