Juni Ba's MONKEY MEAT Returns This March

Award-winning cartoonist Juni Ba (The Boy Wonder, Djeliya) is returning to his dark fantasy anthology series Monkey Meat to produce more morsels of humor and horror for a new five-issue arc, titled The Summer Batch. Each issue will be formatted like a summer magazine, offering two tales, games, and double the traum…huh, excitement! Now, fans will be able to snack on more bite-sized mystery meat stories when the devilishly fun Monkey Meat: The Summer Batch hits shelves in March.

Written and drawn by Ba—with special authorization from the Monkey Meat Company—the tasty, critically acclaimed anthology is back for a second serving! In Monkey Meat: The First Batch, readers visited Monkey Meat Island—where the infamous Monkey Meat Company’s wacky experiments and processed goods have taken their toll on the local, magical fauna. What was once a lush and magical island is now a hyper-capitalist hellscape wherein even demons have to pay rent. Now, in Monkey Meat: The Summer Batch, readers are invited to vacation on Monkey Meat Island for what promises to be an entertaining and gonzo escape. What could be more diverting than a vacation to a hellish west African fantasy island run by a corporation of questionable intent? Embark on a brand new set of adventures to amuse (and mentally scar) the whole family! Exotic locations, debt-collecting forest witches, and a superhero monkey suing the corporation that owns him. The highly anticipated independent film KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM will be coming to San Diego Comic Con 2011. The film will be in Hall H on Saturday, July 23 at 2:15 PM.

The KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM panel will include a Comic-Con exclusive trailer and a panel discussion/Q&A with stars Ryan Kwanten (HBO’s True Blood, RED HILL), Peter Dinklage (HBO’s Game of Thrones, STATION AGENT), Summer Glau (Firefly, SERENITY, The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Danny Pudi (NBC’s Community), Margarita Levieva ( THE LINCOLN LAWYER, ADVENTURELAND), and director Joe Lynch (WRONG TURN 2).

In this humorous fantasy adventure from IndieVest Pictures, Joe (Ryan Kwanten) is a heavy metal rocker who’s just gone through a painful breakup with his girlfriend, Beth (Margarita Levieva). His concerned roommates (Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage) kidnap him to their LARP (Live Action Role Playing) gathering, where he enters a realm of fantasy escapism in which pretend knights, elves, and barbarians clash with foam weaponry on a mock battlefield. When Joe’s “sorcerer” roommate (Zahn) inadvertently summons a deadly succubus that takes Beth’s seductive form, bloody reality crashes down upon their fantasy world. Once LARPers start to turn up dead, the make-believe wizards and warriors must become the real life heroes they have been pretending to be in order to conquer the evil that has been unleashed.

This... Is Bellflower

Bellflower. The touching love story of a man and a woman having the time of their hipsterific lives until they want to tear each other's eyes out. This is also the story of a man and his best friend and their dream of building a flamethrower and Mad Max-esque muscle car to compliment it so they might be ready for the inevitable apocalypse. At the very least, this is the story of Us. ..the geek Us.

Best friends Woodrow and Aiden spend all of their free time building Mad Max-inspired flamethrowers and muscle cars in preparation for a global apocalypse. But when Woodrow meets a charismatic young woman and falls hard in love, he and Aiden quickly integrate into a new group of friends, setting off on a journey of love and hate, betrayal, infidelity and extreme violence more devastating and fiery than any of their apocalyptic fantasies.

Rarely can we see a movie so hysterical and sad and violent and tense and awesome all at the same time. While some films strive to be timeless, Bellflower mirrors a very specific minute in an hour of the life we are living right now. It's a scream of anguish and a satisfying punch through a sheet rock wall on an intolerably hot summer's day.
