Hellboy Funko Pops Nearly Here

Funko Hellboy Comic Pop Vinyl Figures
We hear the moaning sounds across the internets. We've shared those moans. Some are sick-to-death of Funko's seemingly unstoppable Pop army and others, triggered with joy and gimme hands the second they see a wall of white window boxes. For me, I find the whole phenomenon fascinating and will admit to being tempted by more of my fair share of toy offerings. While I've managed to keep my urges for little black eyed desk mascots which can potentially be an entire wall covering to a minimum, I can completely understand the appeal (Ren and Stimpy are miiiiine). Today, we show off the Hellboy comic book Pops coming this fall, and we know, those moans will be more from wanting than from hate...

THE DOMINATION CONTINUES!! Funko's army of irresistibly cute marches on with new additions for your cartoon, video game and movie factions. Soon, the cute levels will be high enough to storm the nation's capital. VICTORY IN 2014!!!

First, a little announcement. One of the most unique and highly anticipated toys of San Diego Comic-Con 2013 was the pre-order and launch of Super7's™ ReAction Figures™ Alien™ line. From the "Lost Prototype" 2-pack and Early Bird Kit to the the full reveal of the final Alien™ ReAction figures™ , the collector community was in a frenzied state over this new "retro style" look of toys within the action figure community. At the same time, Funko's™ continued growth and expanding product line made it's San Diego Comic-Con booth one of the single most traveled spots of the entire convention. After years of sharing the same aisle together, Super7™ and Funko™ saw an incredible opportunity to leverage each other's unique business insights into a more strategic partnership. Beginning with the launch of the Highly anticipated Alien™ ReAction Figures™ and then several licenses to be announced soon,  both companies look to establish a firm collaborative footprint in the market with the ReAction Figures ™ line.

He-Man Wobbles & Power Rangers Go POP!

Funko are at it again. We're just going to start calling them the Vinyl Borg, because they assimilate all your pop culture loves. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!! Alf..we are looking at you. Today, Funko drops us a line that they are ready to reveal the first of their long awaited Masters of the Universe pieces and surprised us with some killer Power Rangers POP! Vinyl to boot!

First up, we have the Masters of the Universe. He-man and his medieval and yet often high tech defenders of Eternia square off against the forces of Skeletor and his monstrous army of thugs. For years we've gotten a giant helping of action figures, vehicles and cartoons to further the mythos, so it seemed a no-brainer to immortalize the characters further in little plastic statues with bobbley heads. In past months, we were given teases that the Masters would join the ranks of the POP! Vinyl universe as well, and this still seems like a sure thing. There are a lot of licenses that get treatment in both lines, so hang tight for that announcement! For now, take a look at the Wacky Wobblers with He-Man, Orko, Skeletor and Beast Man, all available December 20th.

Funko's Adorable Game of Thrones

You knew it was coming. Funko have become masters of taking the most popular pop culture licenses and transforming them into adorable, cartoony doppelgangers for their POP! Vinyl figure line. No matter how creepy, cooky, mysterious or spooky the subject...they all become irresistible snugly muggums. Now the medieval folks of HBO's Game of Thrones have undergone the sweetening and come out so cute, you'll just want to turn over your kingdom to them.

Holiday Geekbook: Behold ..The Power of CUTE

Let's get things straight right out of the gate. Girls have always loved comics and toys. If they did not, I would still be a virgin. Girls watch all my cartoons, build my LEGOs, lovingly pet my Mogwai, slip into my ThinkGeek Tauntaun Sleeping Bag and fondle my AT-AT's on a daily basis. Yea.

That said, please understand that the power of cute also works on a bi-sexual level. Funko's POP! Vinyl line? Fucking adorable. My Little Ponies? Ridiculously cute. She-Ra's horse Swiftwind? The most badass unipegasus that ever speared a monster through the head while still keeping its rainbow wings sparkly clean and bright. Here's my run down of key selections from the world of geek cute...

Funko Pop! Vinyl figures: Never has there been a line that was so packed with diverse licenses while still maintaining a central look. The style is hard to resist, and if their presence in just about every store that sells toys across the US is any indication...mission accomplished! Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Disney, Star Wars, KISS, Run DMC, The Ramones, Spooky Cereal Mascots, Elvis, Horror Icons...the list goes on and on. Just pick your poison and start filling your desk with vinyl so cute, you can practically use them as a weapon to get whatever you want out of a co-worker. HOW CAN THEY SAY NO TO THOSE FACES??!!

Want to pull out the big guns? Take the Pop! Vinyl style and put it on a plush body. Nyooooo..not the squishy terrorrrrr. It's toooo cudlyyyyyy. Funko tossed The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland onto their heap of licenses and translated them fantastically into a Plushie format. Their latest release is Chuck Norris himself, packed with a sound chip that sounds off on the raw power at his fingertips.

"Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he needs."
"Chuck Norris doesn't wear a watch. He decides what time it is."
"Chuck Norris is the reason Waldo is hiding."
"Chuck Norris is not afraid of death. Death is afraid of Chuck Norris."
"Chuck Norris will never have a heart attack. His heart isn't nearly foolish enough to attack him."

You know...all his greatest hits.
Funko have also recently released a line called Blox, taking a similar style and plugging it into a somewhat larger..umm...blockier vinyl piece. The format is fairly engaging and I'd say the only thing missing from it is a little wall hanger hole in the back. Think about it..you could fill a whole wall this Funko goodness! I'll be passing that tip on.

My Little Pony: Do you know what a Bronie is? It's a male fan of My Little Pony. I didn't make that up. My Little Pony is back and looks to be more popular than ever. The toys are filling many a shelf with pastel pony magic while a cartoon series is compelling folks to cosplay horses at conventions near you. YES...I SAID THEY ARE COSPLAYING HORSES! Now, the toy line is all well and good, portraying the TV characters in the classic format my lady friends grew up with, but they just don't grab the sort of stylized look of the show. Enter the Friendship is Magic Gift set with figures sporting sculpted hair instead of the usual comb-able variety, which in my opinion makes them look more like their TV counterparts. The set includes Princess Celestia, Twilight Sparkle, Spike the Dragon, Pinkie Pie and Applejack, a crown accessory and a storybook. My advice? Make more of these figures! There is a legion of fans who would buy figures closer to the cartoon series look in a heartbeat, so get crackin' Hasbro!

Masters of the Universe:
Yes, this line is dominated with bulging, roid raged space barbarians, but there is also Teela, The Sorceress, Evil Lyn..and..umm...OH YEA! A chick names She-Ra! Mattel have just released She-Ra's horse Swiftwind and a new She-Ra to ride her and has promised that 2012 will have plenty more characters from the cartoon series for you to score. You can also walk into a Toys R Us right now and snap up a Supergirl / She-Ra action figure 2 pack. How can you say no?

The Simpsons go POP!

Funko adds to their army of the irresistibly cute POP! Vinyl figures with the soulless eyes of a forgotten orphan with that jaundice gang from Springfield! It has been a very long time since someone did something new and interesting with the Simpsons license, so I'm sure this line of figures and plush is going to go over swimmingly.

Available this November, the 4 inch tall Simpsons POP! Vinyl line will include Homer, Marge, Bart and Krusty the Clown, retailing for about $10 a pop (pun intended). Just before that release, we'll see the launch of 7 inch tall Simpsons plush dolls with Krusty, Homer, Bart, Itchy and Scratchy! Look for them October 20th.

Funko Star Wars Pop! Vinyl Figures

It's not really a stretch to make Star Wars super cute...and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just because companies have been doing it for years with plush toys and Hasbro's Galactic Heroes figure series, so we've become accustomed to the transformation. Never the less, when Funko throws the lever on their cutification ray, you are assured perfect levels of adorable and an instant urge to squeeeeze. Unfortunately, this go around, your squeeze reflex will have to be placed on pause, as these latest pieces are in the Pop! Vinyl line, making them 3 and 3 quarter inches of vinyl, and while you can pet them, put them in your pocket for adventures and (somewhat) snuggle, they are not squishable. Look for Funko's Star Wars Pop! Vinyl figures of Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Yoda, Stormtrooper, Darth Vader and Greedo this March.
