SDCC 2019: George Takei Leads Top Shelf Productions into Comic-Con

SDCC 2019 George Takei Leads Top Shelf Comics into Comic-Con
Preview night has kicked off at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 and Top Shelf Comics have big plans for the whole weekend, including a timely release that, you'll agree, seems extremely important these days. George Takei's "They Called Us Enemy" is one of those releases proving the comic book and graphic novel medium can mix art and storytelling in a way that transcends what people generally expect of the average page of panels. It becomes someone's voice. In this case, a voice baring a man's pain so that we may learn lessons before history repeats itself in an ugly way.
In a stunning graphic memoir, actor/author/activist George Takei revisits his haunting childhood in American concentration camps, as one of 120,000 Japanese Americans imprisoned by the U.S. government during World War II. Experience the forces that shaped an American icon — and America itself — in this gripping tale of courage, country, loyalty, and love.

Dark Horse to Publish Anthony Bourdain's Hungry Ghosts

Dark Horse to Publish Anthony Bourdain's Hungry Ghosts Graphic Novel
This October, Dark Horse Comics will publish the final graphic novel written by Anthony Bourdain before his untimely death in June, 2018.

ANTHONY BOURDAIN’S HUNGRY GHOSTS reunites the bestselling writer, chef, and award winning television host with accomplished co-writer Joel Rose, his friend and longtime collaborator, for a series of horror stories inspired by the popular Japanese Edo period parlour game of Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai. The graphic novel substitutes chefs in place of the traditional samurai, and transforms the classic stories of yokai, yorei, and obake by adding a common thread: food is central to each bone-chilling tale.  On a dark, eerie night a Russian oligarch dares a circle of international chefs to play the Samurai game of 100 Candles—where each storyteller blows out a candle after telling a terrifying tale of ghosts, demons and unspeakable beings, praying to survive the challenge.
