New Avengers Take a Bow

While everyone was gearing up to see if Jack and Kate would find time for a quickie on the black rock before the show's end, things were going on in the rest of the universe! Being the sorry excuse for a comic book collector that I am, and considering I buy trades for the most part, I missed this one. New Avengers has come to an end! The quirky team of disgruntled super heroes part ways to make room for the new world order AKA The Heroic Age and their finale was apparently a hit. Here's the propaganda...

Marvel is pleased to announce that New Avengers: Finale #1 has sold out at Diamond (though copies may still be available at the retail level) and will return with New Avengers: Finale #1 Second Printing Variant! Superstar writer Brian Michael Bendis and renowned artist Bryan Hitch bring readers into the light of The Heroic Age! The New Avengers may have made it through Siege, but they will need to come face to face with their arch enemy before they can call it a day! With two new covers featuring the lush interior pages of Bryan Hitch, and with a retrospective of the New Avengers throughout the ages from some of the industry’s top artists, fans can’t miss this!

See what fans and critics have to say about New Avengers: Finale #1:

“Bryan Hitch is a fantastic choice of artist to accompany this celebration. Much of the issue involves widescreen action and punchy, dynamic splashes, all of which Hitch excels at.” —Bryan Joel, IGN.com

“Bryan Hitch is the last in a long line of all-star artists to work on “New Avengers” and he really makes the issue breathe. He has a habit of taking an issue and expanding scenes, and that shows here as the normally relaxed Bendis-written comic is even more so here, and it helps with the celebratory feeling of the issue.” —Chad Nevett, Comicbookresources.com

“If this is what we have to look forward to for the rebooted Avengers lineup, I'm thinking that the Heroic Age might be a place that we all might want to live in for awhile.” —David Pepose, Newsarama.com

“This was the series where Bendis shaped the fate of the Marvel Universe, which is the big dog in the comics industry.” —Josh Flanagan, iFanboy.com

Now that the smoke of Siege has cleared, will the New Avengers be able to triumph and usher in a new era? Find out in New Avengers: Finale #1 Second Printing Variant!

THE THING Joins New Avengers?!

I had a feeling since the last one was a no brainer, the next one would be a WTF moment! Not sure how I feel about this. I guess it comes down to never having read anything where Thing was written very well and thus, never had a chance to fall in love with the character. The Thing joins Wolverine, Luke Cage, Spider-Man and Jessica Jones in New Avengers #1, from the superstar creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen, this June.

Jessica Jones..YOU Are the Next NEW AVENGER!!

I say it with so much fanfare because its not much of a shocker, is it? Where ever Luke Cage goes, it stands to reason she'll go, and hopefully they'll give her a new outfit by then or continue to let her and Cage be the only two heroes who slug it out in street clothes! Jessica joins her former teamates Spider-Man and Wolverine in the NEW New Avengers in their relaunch from the superstar creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen, this June.

Fun with Brian Michael Bendis

It is Wednesday, the day that people in the comic book industry generally go berserk and suggest story lines where all the male heroes are transformed into hermaphrodites for a 6 month run. Today, Brian Michael Bendis has cracked under the immense pressure of living under the mouse (aka Marvel Comics AKA Disney) and wreaked havok upon the legions of geeklings with the power of his mighty Twitter gun. Observe...

Wolverine on Board for NEW New Avengers

I love it when a plan comes together. Yesterday we speculated that Wolverine would join Luke Cage and Spider-Man on this NEW (seemingly old) New Avengers team, as running alongside Captain America, Thor and Iron Man into Marvel Comic's "Heroic Age" seemed counter-heroic. Marvel loves to point out that he's a killer and calls in the character whenever someone needs to pull the trigger, so best to put him on a secondary team and bring him before the big guns only on occasion as not to sully their reputation. Odd, yes, but makes sense in a comicbooky way. So..here's Wolverine in that newish techy costume I'm still not crazy about. Why do they keep fixing what ain't broken? You'd think he'd just run around in a t shirt and jeans since he knows half his costume will be blown away mid-fight anyway.

So who is left from the old New Avengers and who might join them?
Ronin/Hawkeye - Is Marvel really wants to return to the glory days, the core Avengers need their archer.
Spider-Woman - I'm a little behind in my trades, but I believe she's with SWORD now? I'd put her with She-Hulk's new group so she can throw some more angst into the mix
Ms.Marvel - Marvel has never really developed a Wonder Woman character, which Ms. Marvel would be perfect for...so if they are going for their own JLA, they'd need her on board.
Captain America - With Steve back from the dead, Bucky is left without a role, so New Avengers might be an interesting place for him to land, especially considering his past with Wolverine. Of course, he'll be Bucky or Winter Soldier (a retarded name fo sho).
Sentry - Marvel's schitzo Superman doesn't have a place on a bright and shiny Avengers team and he would de-humanize the New Avengers bringing too much power to the table. My guess is he'll be one of those characters in the background that pops up for the big shows for a WOW moment.

Spider-Man Named as Second New Avenger in Relaunch

It's the NEW New Avengers and so far..it's business as usual! Luke Cage was named yesterday and Spider-Man is on board today, making this a book I'll continue to read. It will be interesting to see where they put Wolverine, but my money is right back in the pages of New Avengers. Having a killer running alongside Thor, Cap and Iron Man would be a little edgy for Marvel's new Heroic Age.

Luke Cage is a New Avenger..Again

As the Heroic Age approaches, the time for teasers is over...maybe. At least for today! Luke Cage was always one of the strongest characters in the New Avengers book, so we are happy to report on his return to the New Avengers title. You may also remember we reported Cage will also be fronting the Thunderbolts! Wouldn't be the first time a character pulled double or tripple duty and hell, more Cage is always better.
