Toy Fair 2025: Playmobil Preview

Toy Fair 2025 PLAYMOBIL Racing Wrestler
There's something about a Playmobil set that sparks the imagination, even when it belongs to a fully grown human boy! Let me tell you about the sheer joy blowing out my face as I cracked open and assembled the Scooby-Doo graveyard and haunted mansion. Toys like this remind you that they were made for FUN, far from the politics and rampant negativity that clings to large toy lines like barnacles on a boat. Sadly, Playmobil isn't setting up within NY Toy Fair this year, but some consistent pestering and assurances that they would be sorely missed otherwise have lead to a chunky sneak preview! Let's waste no further time gushing and get right to the eye candy...

Toy Fair 2025: Playmobil Shows Us The Future

Toy Fair 2025 Playmobil Sky Trails 001
Following last year's announcement of a ‘departure into the future’ at the International Toy Fair, Playmobil 2025 is following up on this promise. The new motto is: ‘The future is now’.

With a new and future-proof brand positioning and communication strategy, Playmobil is becoming an umbrella brand with a fresh brand image, creative campaigns, and renowned cooperation. This is supported by a new product portfolio and strong innovations. The aim is to strengthen brand relevance, tap into new target groups and drive forward the globalization of the Playmobil brand.

Playmobil Naruto Shippuden Part 1: The Kids Are Alright

Playmobil Naruto Shippuden Naruto 006
We get premium love from our friends at PLAYMOBIL, and that means TOY PHOTOSHOOTS!! The folks at Playmobil have always put out really impressive playsets with many a character to populate a scene and spark a tiny imagination, but when they dipped into licensed properties with GHOSTBUSTERS and HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, hardcore collectors sat up and took notice! Now, we sit in wait every year for new license announcements, anxious to see what TV show or Movie will get Playmobilified. And really, it's anyone's guess what will come next, as they've released Back to the Future, Scooby-Doo, Star Trek and Knight Rider sets back-to-back. Unpredictability is Playmobil's best weapon! Let's face it, the company that announces a Magnum P.I. set can make anything.

NYCC 2022: Playmobil Shows Naruto, A-Team & New Star Trek

Playmobil has been hitting it out of the park with their licensed toy lines re-imagined in the signature art style of the Plamobilian Peoples. For me, the two highest points have been Ghostbusters and Scooby-Doo, which lent themselves exceptionally well to the redesign. Ghostbusters in particular had so much potential that I hope the crew will go back to the license and explore the Real Ghostbusters cartoon universe and their endless legions of ghosts, demons, and unforgettable legendary nightmares. IT'S ON MY WISH LIST! While these items are not on the schedule (so far), we did get a look at what's to come in the next few months at New York Comic Con 2022.

PLAYMOBIL Expands Star Trek Universe with new Bird-of-Prey Set

Playmobil Star Trek Universe Klingon Bird of Prey Set 01

“Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.”

These words spoken by Spock, in the 1984 film "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" still mesmerize the Star Trek community. It marks the beginning of the great Genesis Adventure and will be the last journey the crew takes on their beloved starship the Enterprise NCC 1701. To return to earth, the crew must board the vessel of the Klingon Commander, a Klingon Bird-of-Prey.

Toy Fair 2022: Playmobil's Mini Cooper

Toy Fair 2022 Playmobil Mini Cooper

The new PLAYMOBIL Mini Cooper hits shelves this week! All car lovers can look forward to a true British icon: the Mini Cooper. Not only Mr. Bean, but also the Beatles, drove this legendary cult car. Like no other car, the Mini Cooper represents classic British style in a small, fun, and nimble package. No wonder that the design of the original Mini remained almost unchanged for nearly forty-one years. The Mini Cooper offers a lot of car in a little space - for designer Alec Issigonis, "creative use of space" and "focus on the essentials" were so important that there was no room for heating or radio, and sliding windows were used instead of retractable windows.

The Frame Up: Playmobil's Back to the Future Toy Sets

Playmobil Back to the Future Toy Sets
Toy collectors, especially those of us who remember the 80's-90's, are in the midst of an embarrassment of riches. Not only can we celebrate monthly drops of fantastically crafted action figures of our most iconic modern heroes, but every company out there seems chomping at the bit to perfect our childhood toy hordes and sell it all back to us. Playmobil was long known as a child-safe toy line allowing play in medieval castles, farmsteads, aquariums and the like. In the last few years, they've introduced licensed properties, most of which designed to set off your flashback spidey-senses. It's a rare moment when a company can take on a movie property and make toys that are accurate, well designed, kid-friendly and ridiculously fun. Count Playmobil's Back to the Future line among them!

Funko + Playmobil = Your New Addiction

Last year's Toy Fair news stirred up the single most surprising collaboration we've seen in a pretty long time. Playmobil, known far and wide for their amazingly intricate, yet adorably simplistic children's toy sets team with pop culture universe builders Funko for a new line of 6 inch Playmobil style figures that will be hard to resist, especially if you're a die hard fan of any of the properties they are launching with.

The line kicks off this February with Ghostbusters, Willy Wonka, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Doctor Who and Back to the Future. That last property may be the death of me. I'm not a massive fan of the movies, but there is some love, and there's something about the characters in that style that makes my inner, uncontrollable geek go berserk. I have a mighty need...
