Barbie x Doctor Who Dolls

Barbie DR WHO RUBY SUNDAY(1)
Barbie is celebrating time and space with dolls of the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday – featuring character likenesses of Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson.

“Barbie is iconic, so to see a Barbie iteration of the Doctor was emotional, surreal, incredible and I can't wipe the smile off my face. I hope kids out there are able to enjoy the doll and see themselves in it and think 'I can do anything’” - Ncuti Gatwa

Toy Fair 2018: Big Chief Studios 12" Figures - James Bond, Doctor Who & More

Toy Fair 2018 Big Chief Studios Laurel and Hardy figures
12 inch action figures have been around for longer than I've been alive. It's the one format all collectors can appreciate, if not buy into, for at least 3 or 4 figures. In recent years, Hot Toys have brought this scale back into the spotlight, showing the world toys can knock the breath right out of your chest with amazing likenesses, superior sculpting and cloth outfits that don't make the figure look like he/she's wearing their parent's best Sunday clothes. Big Chief can be counted among these companies striving for a higher level of production quality, and their 2018 lineup reflects that. Let's jump back into Spring Fair 2018 and take a look at what's coming in the next few months...

Doctor Who: First look at Jodie Whittaker in Character

Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor in Doctor Who Season 11
The first official photo of Jodie Whittaker as she will appear in Doctor Who has been released. She is seen in cropped teal culottes with yellow braces, as well as a striped jumper and long trench coat. Her look is completed with brown boots, blue and turquoise striped socks and some unusual earrings, at the top and bottom of her left ear. The Broadchurch and Trust Me star has begun filming as the 13th Time Lord. Whittaker, the first female Doctor, takes over from Peter Capaldi and will make her debut on screen when the Doctor regenerates in the Christmas special on BBC One.

Toy Fair 2017: Big Chief on Doctor Who

We've seen a lot of new licenses from Big Chief Studios in this year's Toy Fair 2017 coverage, and now we jump back into a property that is, not only well known to Big Chief 6th Scale collectors, but amazingly, profoundly British. DOCTOR WHO!! The future of the Doctor on his BBC TV show seems uncertain, but his toy counterparts will never stop replicating and marching on. Let's catch up with Matt Booker of JediNews at UK Spring Fair 2017 and see how many Doctors you can fit in a camera phone...

Toy Fair 2017: Character Group Stretch Figures for Disney, DC Comics and Doctor Who

Toy Fair 2017 Character Group Stretch Figures DC Comics Justice League
Everything old is new again!! Toy Fair 2017 will echo that promise, as Toy Fairs have for years. You can bet anything that triggers a fond memory from the populace at large will always be considered for a re-vamp, re-imagining or just a straight up re-release! With the recent return of Stretch Armstrong (what ever happened to the movie??!!), we can assume toy companies began looking into our beloved stretch-technology to see if there might be a way to improve on the design so that, perhaps, 10 years from now, the modern stretch toys won't disintegrate in our hands (RIP Vacman. I lovded youuu). Now Character Group is showing off a mini army of 7 inch stretching heroes to wrap around the hearts of a new generation. M@ Hawkins brings us the eye candy...

Toy Fair 2017: Character Group on Doctor Who

Toy Fair 2017 Character Group Doctor Who Toys
Continuing our Toy Fair 2017 coverage, we hop back over to M@ Hawkins who had a fairly quick visit with Character Group in search of the newest in Time Lord accessories, weaponry and icons (aka ACTION FIGURES!!) From the look of Character's compact display (which was not bigger on the inside), one might assume the company is winding things down with the license? Maybe we are jumping to conclusions, but it's worth a discussion. Let's take a look at what was on hand and see if our tentative assumption isn't warranted...

Funko + Playmobil = Your New Addiction

Last year's Toy Fair news stirred up the single most surprising collaboration we've seen in a pretty long time. Playmobil, known far and wide for their amazingly intricate, yet adorably simplistic children's toy sets team with pop culture universe builders Funko for a new line of 6 inch Playmobil style figures that will be hard to resist, especially if you're a die hard fan of any of the properties they are launching with.

The line kicks off this February with Ghostbusters, Willy Wonka, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Doctor Who and Back to the Future. That last property may be the death of me. I'm not a massive fan of the movies, but there is some love, and there's something about the characters in that style that makes my inner, uncontrollable geek go berserk. I have a mighty need...

Toy Fair 2016: Big Chief Studios on Penny Dreadful, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Danger Mouse & More

2015 was a hell of a year for cloth action figures! In a category where Hot Toys pretty much dominated for many years with smaller scaled figures being MEGO reproductions or new items in the same style, we've now got a whole new ballgame with NECA and Mezco hitting mass retail with amazing, quality product. Across the pond, our friends at Big Chief Studios prefer to stick to the traditional 12 inch format and wows with every release, making many a Doctor Who fan's dreams come true while also filling the wish lists of Sherlock fans. This year, we also get a look at Penny Dreadful 12 inch action figures as well as some Danger Mouse merchandise, on display at Spring Fair in the UK. Let's get into it...

Doctor Who, Portal 2, Simpsons & More Coming to Lego Dimensions

By Ryan Acheson

It seems like only yesterday we introduced LEGO Dimensions! It’s essentially the LEGO Company and Warner Brothers Interactive’s take on the whole Skylanders / Disney Infinity game and toy concept, coming to all the major consoles late this Summer. One of the things that seems to set Lego Dimensions apart is that instead of using what amounts to little plastic statues, it uses actual Lego minifigures and mini builds that you can take off their stands and take apart and rebuild any way you want. Even though that won’t affect how the characters and vehicles and items show up in game, in my eyes that adds a bit more value to the shelf loads of ‘stuff’ this game is going to be cluttering up your toy and video game stores with in the near future.

Toy Fair 2015: Half Moon Bay's Doctor Who, Muppets, DC Comics & Star Wars Merch

I hate to break this to you...but I've looked around your house...your work station....your car....you don't have enough stuff. Seriously. You say you would die for the 11th Doctor, and yet I do not see decorative satchels hanging from your closet doors or Dalek mugs in your cupboards. You constantly extol the virtues of The Batman, and yet I barely see three bat symbol emblazoned items within your reach. To put it bluntly, you are a poor geek...and we have some work to do. Half Moon Bay to the rescue! UK Toy Fair is now in high gear and we'll kick things off with the STUFF of legend, ready to fill the empty gaps in your life and shout to the world..."HEY...I'm a dork. Come at me....but not in the face..."

Big Chief Studios: The Latest on Doctor Who & Sherlock 12 inch Action Figures

While Hot Toys continue their domination of Asia and, closer to home, nearly every damn collector's heart here in the states via Sideshow Collectibles, a little company called Big Chief Studios has been making a big noise across the pond with a range of BBC TV based 12 inch action figures with likenesses that take down all comers. Our buddies at Big Chief set up camp at MCM Birmingham Comic Con nearly two weeks back and displayed their latest and greatest from both Doctor Who and Sherlock lines. Prepare to throw your money at the screen...
