Geeks Go Shopping! Universal's Movie Super Packs

Universal 2020 Movie Collections
Sooooo...what movies are on your must buy list this holiday season? Surely everyone has listed several among their requests, but seeing as how a lot of us are still locking down for safety's sake, that list most likely includes titles from classics to modern masterpieces to that B movie you pop in whenever new friends come over, because you absolutely need to blow their minds. Universal Home Video makes your list making a bit easier this year, packing hours of eye candy into 10 movie Blu-ray sets that will leave NO ONE disappointed.

Geeks Go Shopping! The Geekiest Hallmark Selections

Hallmark 2020 Holiday Ornaments Back to the Future
Back into your geekiest of holiday shopping suggestions, this time with Hallmark! One of the most fun things to do every year is to hit a Hallmark store when the yearly ornament display is up and press all the buttons. Button pressing is a very acceptable date option, just FYI. The best ornament I ever clicked was Beaker from The Muppets who sang in his Beaker voice and moved his tiny bottom lip. Amazing. This year's offerings covered a wide spectrum of our movies, TV, cartoons and comic books. Among the hefty catalog of products, Hallmark picked three they thought you'd love...

Walmart Stepping Up to Fill the Toys R Us Void

When news of Toys R Us closing all stores in the US started circulating, among industry vets, the immediate discussion was who might fill those big, giraffe shaped shoes? The most obvious choices were Target and Walmart, who already boast massive retail space from coast to coast. It wouldn't be too difficult to expand toy sections in any number of locations. Still, my thoughts settled on Walmart who, in my neighborhood at least, seem the most willing to restructure and/or cut into space that seems to be all too often empty (of customers) alongside those well traveled toy aisles. Target took the first steps toward broadening their selection, welcoming collectors to come shop for NECA's mega popular action figures on their shelves. Now Walmart announces their plans for toy domination...

2017 Holiday Geekbook: The Diamond Select Ghostbusters Rooftop

Diamond Select Ghostbusters Action Figures Build a Rooftop
As we reach the final days leading up to the end of the year, we are going to show you some items you SHOULD be able to snag with very little hassles for the mega-geeks in your life! First up is, undeniably, one of the best, if not THE best playset for what they call an "adult" collector. In a world where playsets are finally making a comeback as gargantuan monoliths standing taller than your child, with little more holding them together than bits of cardboard and some modest plastic details, Diamond Select decided to pack their line of Deluxe Ghostbusters action figures with pieces of the rooftop seen in their final battle with Gozer and its final form, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. A BUILD A ROOFTOP!! People said they were insane and haters balked they would never complete the series, leaving hopeful collectors with dashed dreams and adult-sized tears. Welp, they completed that rooftop...and it is magnificent.

2017 Holiday Geekbook: NECA's Quarter Scale Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Quarter Scale Movie Figure
Nothing triggers a retro, flashback reflex faster than the theme song from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series. Activating these flashbacks has meant big business for toy manufacturers this past year, with products allowing you to revisit every past love from Q-bert to The Golden Girls. NECA loves what we love, and so it should come as no surprise that they would produce more than a handful of action figures that would give a geek whiplash when cruising any toy display. While all of these toys are fantastically rendered and considered a must-have for any collector, the quarter scale Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures stand alone as works of art.

2014 Holiday Buying Guide: Geek Up Your Home with NEW Holiday Items

It used to be my favorite time of year was just after Halloween, when all those amazing, creepy creations went on deep discount and you could fill your cart with junk you don't need....but you can't say no to! As I get older, I've come to appreciate the retailer's change of holiday isles and more importantly, what geektastic new products they hide among the isles of candies, decorations and dancing critters. This year you would expect an explosion of dork-themed items on shelves, what with the explosion of our movies at the box office and full infiltration of TV, but it seems some stores get it, and some stores are hesitant to pull that trigger. Here's a breakdown of killer holiday items we found in stores this year...

2012 Holiday Geekbook: Inflatable Awesome

With Christmas Eve dropping on us tomorrow, you may be asking why we'd do a pseudo buying guide NOW. Here's my thinking. As geeks, we get to a certain age, and though our family understands who we are and what we are into, a large percentage of them do not like to...shall we say...Feed the Beast. And so..on our holiday, we get nice, thoughtful presents, but are left to our own devices to continue in the hunt for our particular "Holy Grail" of collectibles or just that day to day stumbling upon hysterically fun products we have to click BUY on immediately. Not all of us have husbands or wives who will indulge us! That said, as you wrap those final presents and bake the 60th batch of sugar cookies, Idle Hands presents a number of products we love...that you'll most likely want to possess with your new found holiday cash and work bonuses!

Assisting us in our demos is the lovely Jess Rajs of Gorgeous and Gory, the most excellent Zombie Mermaid Calendar IN THE WORLD.

Life Lessons from the Sanrio Street Fighters

These days, mash-ups have become an inevitability. Sometimes, the mix is ironic perfection. Sometimes, the offspring of the co-mingling is a horror so hideous it should be set aflame ..its ashes buried 20 feet underground. ...And sometimes, the mash up creates something so unexpectedly adorable, you begin flinging your money at any merchandise the partnership produces. Such was the case at San Diego Comic Con this year when Toynami set out to sell their Chun Li Hello Kitty Plush Doll and sold out BEFORE THE SHOW EVEN OPENED!! Now, two books will celebrate this mega-cute engine of unstoppable happy...

Holiday Geekbook: LEGO DC Super Heroes Sneak Preview

Just a quick peek at the current project! Love this series and the possibilities that come with it. Sure, Batman has come in LEGO form before, but he never had the whole DC Universe behind him! Sooo..stop paying 1k for the old Bat Cave because there's a new one on the way along with so much LEGO awesomeness you're eyeballs are bound to explode from your skull between all that has been revealed already and all you can dream up...that they'll probably make to fill your wish lists, as is their way! Hitting stores now...

- Catwoman Catcycle City Chase
- Batwing Battle Over Gotham City
- Batmobile and the Two-Face Chase
- Superman VS Power Armor Lex Luthor
- Batman Figure
- Green Lantern Figure
- Joker Figure

Now it would make sense that the Batcave is also in this first wave, hitting just in time to make a big noise for the holiday season with a big ticket price to boost those end of the year sales numbers, but I haven't seen any store tags for it yet, so keep hunting, but be prepared to wait a bit for stores to get filled up and the scalpers satiated before you can score the goods.

All orders over $25 get free shipping, so get to shopping! Here's the best deals with links right to the pages where you can purchase...

Star Wars Republic Attack Shuttle at 44% off: Did you miss the EE sale on the biggest Star Wars toy/playset of the year? NEVER FEAR!! Amazon now has THE LOWEST PRICE of the season! I can't imagine it going lower than $50 with free shipping, can you? Didn't think so. Prepare for twice the out-of-this-world battle action with the STAR WARS REPUBLIC ATTACK SHUTTLE. In space or on the ground, the ATTACK SHUTTLE demolishes the Droid army. It features rotating wings, electronic lights that flash, and a base that makes battle-ready announcements. The REPUBLIC ATTACK SHUTTLE comes with five projectiles, CLONE PILOT figure, blaster, label sheet, instructions, Galactic Battle game dueling card, and battle game base.

Nerf N-Strike Stampede at 50% off: There are two toy lines that get people's attention no matter what their age may be...from 6 to 36, LEGO and NERF stop the show. Now you can snap up two battle ready guns to take over your work place with foamy fury. Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS- This fully automatic blaster unleashes a storm of soft Nerf darts from the extended 18-dart clip--and it is easy to reload with the spares. The high-capacity Stampede even includes a blast shield to deflect incoming "fire," as well as a pop-out bipod for stability. The Stampede boasts a 30-foot firing range, weighing nearly 5 pounds and built of thick, durable plastic. Set also includes three extended 18-round clips, quick-reload 6-dart clip, 60 Clip System darts, and directions.

Looking for more armaments? Luckily, the Stampede is not the only gun at discount prices.

Nerf Dart Tag Swampfire at 50% off: Battery power eliminates the traditional need to pump the blaster, allowing players to direct their attention toward game strategy. Hold down the trigger for motorized, full-auto blasting with a rotating barrel that holds up to 20 darts at a time. Single darts can be fired for a more calculated firing style. A stock allows the blaster to rest comfortably against players' shoulders and can be removed for high mobility attacks. Comes with Blaster, 20 Dart Tag darts, Dart Tag rules, and assembly instructions. $20

Nerf Vortex Proton at 44% off: Switch over from darts to disks to hit enemies fast and far! This powerful, single-shot blaster is compact enough to hide away when needed, but also quick-loading enough for surprise situations. Comes with 3 ultra-distance discs. At $9.99, you can afford to outfit your whole crew for a New Year's Eve raid!

Nerf Dart Tag Speed Load 6 at 57% off: That disk shooter was fun, but you like the feel of darts and you want a package that packs in more for your minimal bucks? This air-powered blaster lets you return fire fast with high-speed reloads. The integrated clip holds six darts and lets you load super-fast. Again, only a 10 spot.

ThunderCats Tower of Omens Playset at 50% off: Now that everyone is going berserk for te new cartoon, fans lay in wait for the 3 and 3 quarter action figures to go on sale for the holiday season. Little did you expect the playset that can hold them all would be the cheapest score of all! The Tower of Omens includes Cat Entrance Gate, Catapult, Tower with elevator and slide, mini ThunderCats vehicle and exclusive 4” transparent figure of Tygra, which has embedded magnet activating the ThunderLynx features. Place Tygra (or any 4” figure) in elevator and raise him up, which will open up the top of the Tower and will activate lights and sounds.

G.I. Joe Sky Striker Jet at 50% off: G.I. Joe easily gets my vote for toy line of the year with fairly accessible figure waves and each one packed with as many accessories as they could possibly jam into that tiny blister card. The quality of each figure just keeps going up, so you can't lose! Now you can score the keystone of any Joe collection at a fraction of the price. Complete with pivoting "airsweep" wings and a CAPT. ACE figure eager to "fly", the G.I. JOE Combat Jet Sky Striker XP-21F vehicle is ready for lift-off. This jet also comes with removable missile accessories for plenty of firepower. $22.49

If you need an enemy fighter to chase after your Sky Striker, you can also score the Cobra Night Raven at 58% off!

KRE-O Sentinel Prime Firetruck Building Kit at 58% off: You can build your SENTINEL PRIME character in robot mode and then use the very same bricks to reassemble him in vehicle mode. Also included are four poseable KREON mini figures. I don't have to tell you how much the mini figures rule. This particular set comes with Soundwave, Thundercracker, Sentinel Prime and a human Fire Chief. This is the biggest set in the series so far, at 386 pieces for only $18.99!

The primary and mostly hysterical observation you'll make right away is that there are better deals on Blu-rays then there are on DVDs!
