THE MARKED: Halloween Special Arriving for the Spookiest Day Ever

Image Comics THE MARKED: Halloween Special
Fan-favorite duo David Hine and Brian Haberlin re-team for a special Halloween treat for readers just in time for Halloween with The Marked: Halloween Special one-shot out from Image Comics.

Once every hundred years The Marked are challenged to a game called Rogue’s Night. It’s a game, like Russian Roulette is a game, like Christians vs. Lions was a game. The stakes are high and if The Marked lose, we all lose.

Here’s how it works: Rogue was a powerful witch who was kicked out of The Marked four hundred years ago for using Dark Magic. Every century she takes her revenge by choosing a location to unleash her mischief demons. This time her target is Holy Mountain, Texas, where a radical evangelist called Pastor Jonah is burning books and banning Halloween. According to the pastor, leftists and liberals are literally Satan’s demons in human form. As night falls on Halloween, it looks like he was right. The demons are here and it’s all tricks with no treats for the God-fearing citizens of Holy Mountain.

Their only hope of survival lies with the “witchy freaks” known as The Marked, the very people they tried to kick out of town.

Roald Dahl’s The Witches Remake Trailer is Live

Witches Remake from HBO Max
From Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis (“Forrest Gump”) comes the fantasy adventure “Roald Dahl’s The Witches.”  The film stars Oscar winners Anne Hathaway (“Les Misérable,” “Ocean’s 8”) and Octavia Spencer (“The Help,” “The Shape of Water”), Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci (“The Hunger Games” films, “The Lovely Bones”), with Kristin Chenoweth (TV’s “Glee” and “BoJack Horseman”) and award-winning comedy legend Chris Rock.  Newcomer Jahzir Kadeem Bruno (TV’s “Atlanta”) also stars, alongside Codie-Lei Eastick (“Holmes & Watson”).

Reimagining Dahl’s beloved story for a modern audience, Zemeckis’s visually innovative film tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy (Bruno) who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma (Spencer) in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis.  As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort.  Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch (Hathaway) has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans.

"Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" Gets a Super Spooky Teaser Trailer

Netflix Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Poster
Look up the word "unafraid" in the modern comic book dictionary and there you will find, inexplicably, the kid-safe face of Archie Andrews, iconic and timeless figurehead of Archie Comics. To be concise, we aren't giving Archie himself this label, but the comic imprint itself, which has taken more chances in the last 10 years than I can count. From a zombie outbreak that threatened to devour all of Riverdale to Jughead's little werewolf mishap, and most memorable for me, the re-imagining of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Gone was the squeaky clean, uber-white suburban facade, cast away in favor of a very Hammer Horror tone with EC Comics style frights around every corner. It was a monumental achievement, and now, I'm hoping it will be an equally intoxicating Netflix TV series!

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina tells the story of Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka), a half-witch half-mortal teenage girl. She’s been waiting her whole life for her 16th birthday, but something wicked this way comes, forcing her to choose between the path of light and the path of night. A Netflix Original Series from the makers of Riverdale. CAOS arrives October 26th.

The Witches are Back in the Suspiria 2018 Trailer

Amazon Studios Suspiria 2018 film stills 001
Dance can enrapture or enslave. In one instant, seductive...the next, empowering...the next, heartbreaking, all without uttering a word or explaining a position. The music drives the movement but the movement expresses the will of the performer. In a way, a highly trained dancer is capable of a sort of witchcraft, and someone who masters their movements knows they can inspire or horrify the watcher, leading their emotions where ever they like. We can only hope the Suspiria remake will capture even a small semblance of that power on film...

Dark Shadows Trailer Premieres..and Confuses

If you are like me, you probably didn't guess the tone of this film from the stills released to date. That being the case, then like me, you completely overlooked the fact that Tim Burton is directing. Fail on my part. Dark Shadows seems to be setting itself up to be Burton's own Addams Family, and I am completely down with that!

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

So we are talking campy 70's era soap opera themes with a vampire and a witch then, hmm? Sold. May 11 will come soon enough!
