UPDATED: Jazwares Jumping Back Into Street Fighter and Megaman

Jazwares returns to the two properties they launched their company with waaaaay back in the day. You might remember, in the beginning, SOTA worked the specialty and comic shop angle with psychotically articulated Street Fighter action figures while Jazwares offered a mass market alternative for a slightly reduced price, sacrificing only a bit of articulation and extra bits. Now License Magazine reports Jazwares have the MASTER license for Street fighter AND Megaman toys. This makes them the overlords for each property. License explains...

The Street Fighter line will include action figures in single and double packs, as well as comic book battle packs. For Mega Man, offerings will include kid and collector action figures. Both ranges will launch in fall 2011.

While I am sincerely happy that someone will be releasing new Street Fighter merchandise, it makes me a little worried. Even though they haven't explored the new 3 and 3 quarter scale across all their lines yet, I think the urge to make the new line in that size for compatibility and monetary reasons may be too strong to pass up. Those of us with old Street Fighter figures would love nothing more than a continuation of that line, in the same scale, but I feel so much time has passed that Jazwares will be looking for a new beginning and to put their stamp of ownership on the entire set with something completely original. With the International Toy Fair just around the corner (this February), we'll find out soon enough.

NOTE: Jazwares has the master TOY license. This does not effect the statue deals with Pop Culture Shock Collectibles or SOTA.

UPDATE: Damn, I hate being right today. We just got the press release from Jazwares.

The spring Street Fighter™ 2011 toy line by Jazwares will include all new 3.75” action figures. Available in single packs, double packs and comic book battle packs, the toys will portray the characters of Street Fighter like no kids or collectors have ever seen before.

Here's the whole release...

Jazwares, Inc., a leader in the consumer products marketplace, has been awarded the toy licenses for Capcom’s Street Fighter® and Mega Man® video game franchises. Under the terms of the agreement, Jazwares will be the master toy licensee for Mega Man. The Street Fighter license is a category-specific agreement that covers only the categories of Boys BS/PVC/Vinyl figures and accessories, 4-inch and under playsets and vehicles.

The Jazwares’ team of design experts have built a reputation for producing true-to-life toys that bring action-figure play to kids and collectors alike. In 2011 they will translate two of the most popular iconic video games into new collections for the fall.

“We are extremely excited to put a new punch in the popular Street Fighter and Mega Man brands with all new action figure collections for the next generation of fans,” said Laura Zebersky, executive vice president sales, Jazwares.

“We’re thrilled to be on board with one of the premiere action figure design teams to help take our iconic characters from the arcade screens right into kids’ and collectors’ homes,” said Joshua Izzo, Director of Licensing of Capcom.

Capcom pioneered the fighting games genre with Street Fighter, one of the most successful fighting franchises in the world, selling over 25 million copies to date. Throughout its twenty-five year history, Street Fighter has continued to develop and successfully reinvent itself in the gaming industry.

The spring Street Fighter™ 2011 toy line by Jazwares will include all new 3.75” action figures. Available in single packs, double packs and comic book battle packs, the toys will portray the characters of Street Fighter like no kids or collectors have ever seen before.

Created by Capcom in 1987, Mega Man is one of the most iconic video game characters in the world and starred in more than 140 different games. Mega Man collectively sold over 29 million copies worldwide. Mega Man® 9 and Mega Man® 10 brought the reputation of the franchise back by recreating the classic game and graphics of the original Nintendo release.

Capcom and Jazwares team up in spring 2011 to combine classic entertainment with an all new line of kid and collector action figures, allowing kids and parents to continue the adventures of Mega Man at home.

Ghostbusters : Kind of Dicks

I love the movie Ghostbusters and didn't realize how much until we attempted to watch it this Halloween. I knew every damn word. That can get pretty obnoxious, so I fought the urge to say them along with the film. Being a part of one of the first websites (Dread Central, natch) to report on the possibility of Ghostbusters 3, you might imagine I've been keeping an eye on things and waiting with hope that what comes of it is actually GOOD and funny, at the very least. Today, Funny or Die gets in on the hype, creating a world where the boys in grey run through the streets, unchecked, busting lost childhood pets, your beloved gran gran and even the soul mate who didn't make it out in that horrible JiffyPop fire of 96. NO GHOST IS SAFE. Why? Cuz bustin' makes em' feeeeeel gooood...

Spidey Says "GET A JOB!!"

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Katherine Oliver, Small Business Services Commissioner Robert W. Walsh, Marvel Entertainment Editor-in-Chief and Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, New York Daily News CEO Bill Holiber and Editor-in-Chief Kevin Convey, and Spider-Man today announced the creation of “Spider-Man, You’re Hired,” an all-new comic book highlighting City resources available to New Yorkers who are navigating the job market. The comic, which features an unemployed Peter Parker starting his job search, is the Administration’s latest effort to connect out-of-work to New Yorkers to job training and placement services. It was inspired by the NYC Media original television production, “Job Hunt,” a ten-part series on how the City is helping New Yorkers to get back to work – focusing on Workforce1 Career Centers, libraries and other City services. Mayor Bloomberg made the announcement at Midtown Comics’ new store in Lower Manhattan.

“New York City provides free, first-rate job training and placement assistance, and we want every New Yorker that needs help to know about it, so we asked Spider-Man to help us spread the word,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “One of the reasons we created the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment was to find new ways to connect with New Yorkers. Our partnership with Marvel and the Daily News is a fun and innovative way to let everyone know about the web of resources the City has to offer New Yorkers that need job assistance.”

“Marvel’s proud to team-up with the City of New York to help inform all New Yorkers about the free services designed to assist them in finding employment. We couldn’t ask for two better leading men than Spider-Man and Mayor Bloomberg,” said Marvel Entertainment Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada “Because even New York’s most famous Super Hero needs a day job!”

“We are always looking for new ways to reach people in all forms of media about the job resources offered by the City,” said Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. “Working with Marvel, the Daily News and Small Business Services on this special ‘Spider-Man: You’re Hired’ edition is a tremendous example of how the government can work with the private sector to really help people.”

“Thank you to Mayor Bloomberg, Commissioner Oliver, the New York Daily News and the City’s great new partner, Marvel,” said Small Business Services Commissioner Walsh. “This is an exciting collaboration and a real super hero effort that will ensure that many more New Yorkers know about the City’s excellent free employment services. I’m glad that Peter Parker is helping us to spread the word to jobseekers that visiting a Workforce1 Career Center can help them get a job in this tough market.”

“As New York’s Hometown Newspaper, the Daily News is proud to use our printed pages and the power of NYDailyNews.com to help New Yorkers, like unemployed Spider-Man alter-ego Peter Parker, find work,” said New York Daily News CEO Bill Holiber. “The City of New York and the Daily News have been tremendous partners on this and other projects – such as the “Hire Me” series that partnered with the “Job Hunt” show and caller helpline – by combining our resources to help New Yorkers get to work. In today’s Daily News, not only will New Yorkers find a special edition of the Spider-Man comic created by Marvel Entertainment, but we’ve also provided readers with a guide to the city’s services for job searches, training and research. We hope our efforts not only help one of New York’s most famous super heroes find work, but other ‘real’ New Yorkers, as well.”

The recently created Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment is identifying and implementing new ways to let New Yorkers know about City resources available to them. To promote the City’s free workforce training and job placement services, the Office worked with Marvel Custom Solutions, a special division within Marvel Entertainment that develops innovative programs addressing the specific needs of partners and philanthropic interests, to create a special edition Spider-Man comic book featuring Mayor Bloomberg.

The full-color, eight-page comic features an out-of-work Peter Parker, frustrated and at a loss about how to find a new job. A serendipitous meeting with the Mayor helps to put him on the right track. The unique comic is available for free download online via iTunes through the popular Marvel Comics app (www.marvel.com/marvelcomicsapp). The New York Daily News is also printing a special edition of “Spider-Man: You’re Hired” at no cost to the City, appearing in over 600,000 papers with a list of all the Workforce 1 Centers in the City where the comic will be available.

The Department of Small Business Services oversees a system of nine Workforce1 Career Centers located throughout the five boroughs, which provide New York City jobseekers with a full array of free employment services, including job preparation, training and job placement in a professional setting. Since 2004, the Department of Small Business Services transformed a system that was placed New Yorkers in about 500 jobs a year into one that placed New Yorkers in more than 25,000 jobs in 2009. To find a Workforce1 Career Center and learn about services, New Yorkers can visit NYC.gov or call 311.

Two additional one-page comics have also been created in conjunction with this launch. In the first comic, Spider-Man can be seen at various well-known New York City attractions describing the great free job services that the City offers. Workforce1 Career Centers are located throughout the five boroughs and provide job seekers with a full array of employment services, including job placement, career counseling, professional development, and access to training opportunities. In the second comic, Spider-Man takes his friend Mary Jane to learn more about the “Made in NY” Production Assistant Training Program. Developed in partnership between the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, this free program helps diverse New Yorkers gain access to entry level positions in the entertainment industry. The program is currently recruiting for applicants.

The one-sheet comics are available for download on NYC.gov and can also be seen on phone kiosks and other signage throughout the city. A public service announcement featuring the comics can also be seen in City taxi cabs and on NYC life (channel 25) and NYC gov (channel 74), the City’s government station. The public service announcement, which debuted on Wednesday, explains the project and encourages people to download the comic. The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment has worked closely with the New York Taxi and Limousine Commission to ensure that the public service announcement can be seen by as many people as possible. It can also be viewed on the NYC Media Video On Demand Player available on nyc.gov.

“Job Hunt” – produced by NYC Media, the official television, radio and online network of the City of New York and part of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment – offers expert advice about navigating the job market and features New Yorkers who have taken advantage of City resources. In each episode of “Job Hunt,” a panel of experts and recruiters shares tips on resume building, interview skills, and landing a new job. Episodes are available to watch online at NYC.gov on the NYC Media Video on Demand Player.

UPDATED! : Marvel Select Movie Thor and Loki Revealed

As we reported only last week, Marvel Select (via Diamond Select) have Thor and Loki figures on the way based on their movie appearances with likenesses of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. Each figure comes with a base depicting the rainbow bridge to Asgard. Get both figures and the pieces go together to form a diorama! Newbs to the line should note that Marvel Select creates their figures in a 7 inch format, making them slightly taller than Marvel Legends 6 inch figures..which isn't such a bad thing for Asgardians. Diamond revealed today that Thor comes with 16 points of articulation...and if I may add, an awesome likeness of Chris Hemsworth! Put this one on your "must buy" list if you are a fan of Marvel Movies, because..let's face it..it sure does put what Hasbro is offering to shame. Look for him February of 2011.

UPDATE: One of our readers from across the waters dropped Loki on us!

Cowboys and Aliens Trailer Lands

In recent years, Hollywood has rediscovered the Western for an injection of originality, with excellent results...most of the time (coughjonahhexcough). Now, Universal simultaneously throws their bowler hat onto that dusty trail and takes a second bite (Skyline being the first) of the "Alien Attack" scenario with COWBOYS and ALIENS! I have to admit, not having time to see anything about the film at San Diego Comic Con, and knowing Harrison Ford and Sam Rockwell were on board, I just assumed this was a comedy/action/adventure sort of thing! Color me shocked...

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

The film stars Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Clancy Brown and Keith Carradine as well.

Universal has Paul, the alien encounter comedy with our favorite duo from Shaun of the Dead, set for a March 18th release and Cowboys & Aliens locked in for July 29, 2011. Add to the list their prequel to The Thing on tap for 2011, and it seems we'll be swimming in alien goo for the foreseeable future.

POOLWATCH: Diamond Select Deadpool Ready to Drop

Just as a brand new Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool is hitting Toys R Us stores across the planet, Diamond Select steps up to give them a run for their money with a Marvel Select Deadpool! The 7 inch select figure comes with 2 sais, 2 handguns, 2 swords, one big ass automatic weapon and a busted up wall diorama base. There's also a variant unmasked version of the figure. Deadpool should be showing up in your local comic shops any day now along side...

MAGNETO!! Also 7 inch in scale, as are all the Marvel Select figures, also has a variant figure with his helmet off (the better of the two in my opinion) and a display base allowing Magneto to stand upon the rubble of Xavier Institute and a certain metal member of the X-Men in particular!

Get yo Marvel on.

Ghostface ...of the Undead?

WAAAAAAAY back in the olden days when Movie Maniacs was the only action figure line daring to make horror toys via McFarlane, we got a Ghostface action figure to menace our shelves with superior stabby action. Now, as Scream 4 prepares to hit theaters, NECA want to make sure you've got a little 7 inch GF in hand at the theater on opening night.

It seems the masters of pop culture plastics have not one but TWO different Ghostfaces on the way. One is described as the "Classic" look. The other... ZOMBIE??!! WHAT A TWEEST!! Have we just uncovered a major plot point of the film or just a costume change? Let's face it, those robes are getting old and it's got to be hard to chase today's steroid pumped teens in it. Plus, Zombies are so hot right now. DISCUSS!!

The toy is due to drop February, 2011 while the movie hits April 15th.

NOTE FOR THE TOY GEEKS: The "Zombie" Ghostface is packed 2 to 6 in a case, so the chase is on.

Glee: The Mystery of the Missing Foot

After writing that headline, I instantly thought how awesome it would be if the Glee gang had a Scooby mystery night. JINKIES! But seriously, I was checking to see how many hundreds of people left comments under my expertly written stories and noticed something odd. Sometimes, people photoshop pictures before they go into magazines or are generally used anywhere in the public eye. I know..shocking, right? After I found this out I slept for 3 weeks straight. Check out the pic to your left and dig on the mystery of the disappearing right foot. TRUE STORY!!!

Theory 1: Her foot is actually on the inside of the other girl's leg, making that picture waaaaaay dirtier than it has a right to be. ...but we thank you anyway.
Theory 2: ALIEN ABDUCTION!!!
Theory 3: The Loch Ness Monster

That's all I've got. Please post your theories below and the best one will get a random prize of things I found in a box whilst cleaning.

Robot Chicken : Destroyer of Planets

There is only one show on TV where you can tune in and count on the oddest cross overs your geekified mind can handle. That show is called Robot Chicken. With Trump like toy resources and far too much time to make odd noises at each other, sometimes the boys like to abandon the stop motion format in favor of some old school, child like "hand motion" (so named..cuz you use yo hand. pervs.) to bring their favorite toys to LIFE!!! Observe...

Follow those durn Robot Chicken boys at http://twitter.com/cyborgturkey and tune into the show weeknights on Cartoon Network on their Adult Swim block. I swear the animation is better than this.

NECA's Alien and Predator Pack for the Holidays

If I ran NECA and I knew we were making a new Alien vs Predator 2 pack, exclusive to Toys R Us, just in time for the holidays, I'd randomly insert little Santa hats on the action figures to put them in the holiday spirit! Of course, this would anger the completest fans who now have to buy two of the 2 packs but have a hard time finding the "Santa Chase" because drippy, greezy, smelly scalpers are scalping them every chance they get. Eventually they show up at the NJ offices of NECA with torches and blood in their eyes. Ahhhhh...I love Christmas.

NECA provided new in package images (and packaging art images) of their Alien & Predator 2 pack which they promise will be hitting Toys R Us stores early this December. The Alien features multiple points of articulation, a bendy tail and an extendable inner mouth while the Predator features 20+ points of articulation and a removable back pack. For those of you who have always wanted the iconic Pred and Alien, or know someone insane about the series, now is your chance to score some bloodthirsty plastic Alien goodness.

Green Lantern In Action

Super Hero Hype just tipped us off that Entertainment Tonight will have the scoop on the new Green Lantern movie with the new trailer premiere. Yeaaaaa...cuz all the hip comic book readers watch ET. WOOOO! At any rate, beggars can't be choosers and this week, ET showed a tease of their footage with a mini footage release! It looks...interesting. I'm going to reserve further snickering until I see the full trailer, after which we can all come back here and either drool like the retarded geeks we are or have a hearty communal guffaw. Anyways...here's the goods...

SKYLINE Reviewed

After being blown away by the Battle: Los Angeles trailer, international trailer and loooovely screen caps we've presented to you (you're welcome) you are wondering if it is worth it to slip on some comfy pants and head to the movies tonight to see LA get destroyed RIGHT NOW!?! All the answers will be revealed...over at Dread Central.com where I've cleared my throat all over their reviews section. HIT THIS LINK to taste my confusion, awe, pain, spite, rage, confusion again, and hysteria from lack of sleep. If you could bottle it, it would taste like Peach Snapple mixed with Cherry Coke Zero and Hawaiian Punch. Mmm, mm good.

Battle: Los Angeles Trailer Drops

A little movie about a speeding train came out today and there were a fat fist full of trailers on the front of it. BATTLE: LOS ANGELES was one of them. When talking to friends about this newest entry into the Aliens VS Us franchise war, I described it as "great big fucking robots tearing apart buildings in the middle of the city while fighting modern military forces." The reply I got back was "isn't that Skyline?" Well...almost..but not quite. Dig the new trailer!!

For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world – Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.

I'd also like to mention that Michelle Rodriguez is in this with a giant gun and a mad on for killin' aliens. SELLING POINT!! Battle: LA hits theaters March 11, 2011
