SDCC 2014: Del Toro, Tatum, Perlman And Co. Talk The Book Of Life
The cast and crew of The Book of Life sat
down to discuss the upcoming movie at San Diego Comic-Con International this past weekend. On hand were actors: Christina Applegate, Channing
Tatum and Ron Perlman alongside producer Guillermo Del Toro and
director Jorge Gutierrez to talk about what makes this new animated
feature something you can'tmiss. The production team wanted to make something different than the big films of this year and celebrate a
rich culture. Director Jorge Gutierrez described the film as, "Really
unique and different. Growing up I wanted to see a Mexican story and
now I was able to put in all these things I never saw but wanted to,
into this film. We really wanted this to look true to its Mexican
roots."
Guillermo Del Toro, whose imagery has
always remained infused with the richness of his heritage, elaborated,
"In order to be universal, we tried to be very specific to our
culture and who we are and what we love. None of us are trying to
cash in on a generic animated film about talking animals with quippy
one-liners."

Prepare for Pans Labyrinth, The MUSICAL
After years of me suggesting to, just about any Hollywood or producer type that would listen, that Phantom of the Paradise would be a sleeper off Broadway hit, it seems the universe is meeting me half way. Last night at the Grammys, singer/songwriter Paul Williams let the news slip that he was working with Guillermo del Toro (another Phantom of the Paradise devotee) on a Pans Labyrinth musical!

Guillermo Del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities
For more than two decades, writer-director Guillermo del Toro has mapped out a territory in the popular imagination that is uniquely his own. From his first feature-length film, the modern classic Cronos, to his best-selling novels, to his latest movie Pacific Rim, del Toro has proven himself to be a one-of-a-kind creative visionary able to bring his singular sensibility equally to Hollywood blockbusters such as Hellboy and to more personal projects such as the Oscar–winning Pan’s Labyrinth. Now comes a gift and gorgeous keepsake for his legions of fans: GUILLERMO DEL TORO CABINET OF CURIOSTIES: My Notebooks, Collections, and Other Obsessions (Harper Design; On Sale October 29, 2013: $60.00, 256 pages; ISBN: 978-0-06-208284-8), a lavishly illustrated book that is an intimate look into one of the most imaginative minds of this century. GUILLERMO DEL TORO CABINET OF CURIOSTIES—written with New York Times best-selling author and filmmaker Marc Scott Zicree—contains notes, drawings, and untold creatures from Guillermo del Toro’s private journals and filmmaking diaries, with never-before-seen characters, art, and ideas of things to come. The book is a captivating, intimate glimpse into the life and mind of one of the world’s most creative visionaries.

Pacific Rim: Jaegers: Mech Warriors Featurette
July 12th is so close you can feel it deep down in your bones!! As we creep closer to the release date of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro will be laying down the foundation of the world in which we were forced to build titanic robots to battle mountainous monstrosities looking to scorch the Earth and end our very way of life.
In this, the latest video featurette, del Toro talks more about the Jaegers; robots a tall as city buildings. Where did their design come from? How do you build a mythology around these massive metal warriors without it being derivative of anime that have been addressing this subject for YEARS?! Here's a look inside...

Pacific Rim Drift Space Featurette
When we caught up with Guillermo del Toro at NY Comic Con last October, he explained how the massive Jaeger robots required two pilots to handle the load and even hinted we'd see what would happen when only one pilot was left to take on the task single-handedly. In this new Pacific Rim Fearturette, we explore the relationship between man and robot and more importantly, how two human beings become one pilot.

The Official Main Trailer for Pacific Rim
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes "Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' Pacific Rim." In theaters July 12th.

New Pacific Rim TV Spot
You say you're excited about Iron Man 3? That's fantastic. High hopes for Man of Steel? Superb. We here at Idle Hands are hoping to have perpetual chills during our entire screening of Pacific Rim as leviathan-esque monsters try to wipe out Earth and massive human piloted robots are the only thing that stands in their way. Of course, this movie can go either way. Rely only on spectacle and while you have some incredible eye candy to fill the time, the story will suffer for it. Then again...the story could be ridiculous. Luckily, Guillermo del Toro is behind the wheel...and one thing that man knows how to do is tell an epic tale.

Oh man....if I'd known about this movie during New York Comic Con, I'm fairly certain that would have been all I'd be able to talk to Guillermo del Toro about!! Forget the film with the leviathan like monsters and robots...WHAT'S THIS MOVIE WITH THE CREEPY SHE BEAST??!! This new trailer I saw in front of either Skyfall or Man with the Iron Fists (my brains won't tell me which) is sure to send a chill up your back and have you watching those dark places in the corners of your home a little more closely...
