IDW Announces Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man Artist’s Edition

IDW Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man Artist’s Edition
In September, IDW will celebrate the dynamic artwork and storytelling of industry icon Todd McFarlane with the addition of Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man Artist’s Edition to its multiple Eisner Award–winning line. Experience one of the most acclaimed runs in Spider-Man history like never before!

Todd McFarlane’s gorgeous work on Spider-Man was nothing less than groundbreaking. His intense version of the web-slinging wallcrawler took the character to new heights, instilling in the character a new sense of energy and vitality—first in The Amazing Spider-Man, written by David Michelinie, and then in a spin-off series, with both art and story by McFarlane himself. The impact that his dynamic artwork has had on the comics industry—on his legions of fans and the artists who have been inspired by and have emulated him—is truly immeasurable.

McFARLANE and CAPULLO To Draw Historic Spawn 300th Comic Issue

Spawn 300
Todd McFarlane’s SPAWN character sets the stage for a historic celebration as it breaks the record for the longest-running creator-owned comic in the world! To mark this momentous occasion, McFarlane has gathered a team of superstars from the comic industry to contribute to this giant sized 72-page book.

The big news for SPAWN #300 is that award-winning artist, Greg Capullo (Batman), returns to illustrate SPAWN. Capullo first brought his talents to Image Comic’s longest running title, with issue #16, leading to a visually-stunning run as the book’s featured artist, culminating in the hallmark 100th issue.

Following his seminal work on DC Comics’ iconic Batman, Capullo will be the main featured interior artist on SPAWN #300, alongside another major revelation…for the first time since 1995, Todd McFarlane, one of the top-selling artists in comic book history, will return to pencil and ink interior artwork of the character he created during his high school days!

Spawn's Angela Coming to Marvel Comics

Characters have crossed over from one comic universe to another before, but they usually fight, shake hands, band together to defeat a common enemy and then slip back into their home domain with no real excuse as to how they got their in the first place. Hell, DC and Marvel even mashed their characters together in the mess that was the Amalgam Universe (which gives me chills just thinking about it.) We won't return there. Tis' a silly place. Today, Newsrama has alerted us that a major character in the Spawn-iverse will be stepping onto Marvel Comics soil for the finale of the massive Age of Ultron event..and it seems she'll be moving in for a while!

SDCC: Lee, McFarlane and Yoshiki's Blood Red Dragon

Stan Lee, Chief Creative Officer of POW! Entertainment (OTCQB: POWN), music superstar and humanitarian Yoshiki, and world renowned comic book artist Todd McFarlane will unveil the debut issue of the highly anticipated comic book series Blood Red Dragon at Comic-Con International on Thursday, July 21, 2011. Lee, McFarlane and Yoshiki, on whom the comic's central superhero is based, will present the first installment of Blood Red Dragon, which features a surprise and first-of-its-kind publishing innovation that combines the unique skills of these three world-renowned artists. Lee, McFarlane, and Yoshiki will join established and respected comic book writer Jon Goff in a panel discussion at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel in the Indigo room on Thursday, July 21st from 1pm-2pm.

Blood Red Dragon Issue #0, the first in the series published by Todd McFarlane Productions, focuses on the origin of an ancient and benevolent force, locked in an epic battle with the dark armies of Oblivion. Creative expression and destiny collide, as once in a generation an individual is born with the potential to unlock the awesome might of the Blood Red Dragon, thus channeling a power beyond comprehension and assuming the mantle of Earth's protector. When agents of Oblivion discover that the key to accessing the Blood Red Dragon's energy lays in music; the melodic heart of the human spirit, they launch a series of violent attacks on musicians across the globe. As he performs in front of a large crowd during the opening show of a massive world tour, drummer and keyboardist Yoshiki comes face-to-face with his destiny, experiencing a transformation that will forever change his life and possibly the fate of the world.

"I am extremely excited about Blood Red Dragon," said Lee. "Yoshiki's exceptional musical abilities, visual flair and passionate humanitarianism make him an amazing and inspiring collaborator and I think readers will experience every bit of that in the comics."

Added Yoshiki, "Working with the one-and-only Stan Lee has been an incredible experience for me. He is truly a genius and one of the best storytellers living today. I'm excited with the results of our efforts and look forward to the response from readers and music lovers around the world."

"Being able to collaborate with creators on a global level is always a thrill," said McFarlane. "Working with two big names, like Yoshiki and Stan Lee, I hope I'm able to add a little bit of my touch to a book that my, Stan's, but most importantly Yoshiki's fans will enjoy. At the same time, I hope this book helps introduce Yoshiki to fans that don't know him on American shores."
