Toy Fair 2012 : Batman: Arkham Asylum Play Arts Kai Figures

In the world of collectibles, if you want the best of the best in 12 inch action figures, you look to Hot Toys. When you want that same level of detail, paints and articulation in a smaller, more traditional action figure format, you look to Square Enix. This crew have been cranking out Final Fantasy action figures that make jaws drop across the planet for some years now, but it is their Play Arts Kai line that has been making hardcore fans lose their minds on the convention floors. Today, we get to show off two new additions to the Play Arts Kai Batman: Arkham Asylum lineup ...Armored Batman and Harley Quinn!

We first got some glimpses of these two figures at New York Comic Con along with the first two figures in the line, Batman and The Joker. CLICK HERE for images!

The Joker stands 8.9 inches tall and comes with Chattering Teeth (that most likely don't chatter at that scale), a gun, and alternate hands (one fist and one hand to hold the gun). Batman stands 9.3 inches tall and comes with his grappling hook, Batarang, and alternate hands (closed fist and hand for gripping accessories. Each will set you back 60 bucks and are due out this month.

Toy Fair 2012 : Kotobukiya's Avengers

You'd better believe every company with a Marvel Comics license is looking for a way to cash in on the coming of the Avengers movie this May 4th, so it should be no surprise that Kotobukiya would start showing their pretty, pretty plastics as soon as possible. Whether it be from their sexy Bishoujo statue line or their ARTFX statue line, they've got you covered. Here are two upcoming releases you won't want to miss...

AVENGERS MOVIE IRON MAN MARK VII ARTFX STATUE - New 3D sculpting includes more fine detailing than previous hand-sculpted releases for a more dynamic display. This dynamic pose catches Iron Man in action, firing his chest-mounted beam weapon with an LED light-up feature with three different modes: Off, Continuous On and triggered via the built-in motion detector. Iron Man's eyes also feature continuous LED lighting in both modes. This ARTFX statue in 1/6 scale stands nearly 16 inches tall including the diorama base. Release date: June 2012

BISHOUJO STATUE MARVEL BLACK WIDOW COVERT OPS VERSION - Entirely new sculpt by Masahiro Takahashi (based on a new illustration by Shunya Yamashita, famed Japanese illustrator) hints at Natasha Romanoff, AKA Black Widow's past with the inclusion a Daredevil mask on the base. This new release brings Black Widow to life in a larger 1/7 scale sculpt to match the current (and future) scale of the Bishoujo line. This dynamic pose captures Black Widow in action lending a sense of movement to the entire piece, and includes interchangeable parts to display with or without the weapon. Release date: July 2012

NOTE: The first Black Widow was released July of 2009. Black Widow II (Yelena) was a San Diego Comic-Con variant, limited to 500 pieces. Kotobukiya's Bishoujo line has covered both Marvel and DC Comics characters as well as video game and movie creations.

Toy Fair 2012 : LEGO Monster Fighters

I'm always amazed at how casually monsters and horror have worked their way into media seemingly made for "kids". The Pirates of the Caribbean films (from Walt Disney) have had zombies, fish monsters AND unkillable skeleton pirates. Hell, those lovable Ewoks from Star Wars set out to EAT our heroes when they first met. Never forget what the "Luka Luka Luuuuka" song really means.

LEGO has obviously always had an appreciation for the macabre, whether it be the inclusion of a zombie in the first series of Mini Figures or the extra bits that come with the Star Wars Hoth Wampa Set ... like the pile of bones, human skeleton and Tauntaun leftovers. FAMILY FUN!! Now LEGO is taking things up a notch, replacing its awesome salute to Mars Attacks (Alien Conquest) with a line called MONSTER FIGHTERS!

Since the New York Toy Fair is actually three weeks away, all we've got for you is the art displayed on an outer wall at the UK Toy Fair and as complete a description of the sets that we've seen so far. These titles are not 100%...

The Wolf Man - Seems to have mini figures of a werewolf and an old school adventurer or scientist...you know the kind with a pith helmet? Center pieces include a launching tree and a little buggy for the professor.

The Swamp Creature - Includes a water craft with two rockets to fire and a hunter to drive it into battle against the Creature with his harpoon! There's also a little alter-looking configuration for the Creature with a dead fish at its base.

The Mummy - A female monster hunter rides a sort of gyro-copter in pursuit of the Mummy on his chariot pulled by a skeleton horse. The Mummy has a whip and a sword while the hunter has a crossbow with a bolt and a spare bolt in her hair!

Vampire Hearse (aka Dracula's...totally awesome batmobile) - Picture the family car from "The Munsters". That can be the only inspiration for this. Dracula's long black ride features fangs in the grill, piercing red headlights, bones along the engine and more. In hot pursuit appears to be an English gentleman on a motorcycle with a fencing-type sword. There appears to be another figure with Dracula, but we can't make him out.

Zombies - We've only heard about the existence of this set so far so have no further details.

Frankenstein - A tower for catching electricity, a table for resurrecting dead flesh and a wacky scientist to scream "IT'S ALIIIVE!!" This set features the mad scientist, Frankenstein's Monster and what appear to be two angry townsfolk as well as a monster hunting vehicle with a projectile, what appears to be a holding cell for the Monster and a slice of the scientist's lab.

The Ghost Train - Exactly what it sounds like! A black engine with spectral fire coming out of its stack and green lights leading the way pulls three carts with little bat wings! The bat wings are said to flap as they go along!! The set seems to include three ghosts to battle two monster hunters in their prop plane with projectile firing mechanisms. We see the female monster hunter can hang off the bottom by a rope, brandishing a crossbow.

The Vampire Castle - Comes with a Man-Bat (or 2), Dracula, his Bride and two human monster fighters as well as a tricked-out monster hunter mobile with a launching net! The castle has some sort of crystal ray feature in the tower, which pops out from behind what looks like a stained glass window. This ties into the storyline, which I'll get to in a minute. There also seems to be a trap-door feature in the tower.

So here's what I've put together. Each set comes with an idol/gem stone that both monsters and fighters are after..probably some sort of ultimate power dealy. The bit that looks like stained glass in the Vampire Castle tower is actually all the idols/gems plugged into a wheel, which I suppose activates the laser of doooom!! There is also a glow in the dark element in each set.

Our pics show the Monster Fighters, complete with robo parts (dark for LEGO!) and the Monsters, themselves; The Monster, The Vampire and The Wolf Man. We've also provided two extra pics to our story. One looks a lot like the Swamp Creature but is missing the fin on top of his head and some minor redecos to his overall look. The second is my little collection of LEGO Mini Figures, which come single-packed and have included at least one monster-looking dude in each wave! You'll notice Dracula and Frankenstein are close cousins to their Monster Fighter counterparts!

June 2012 is the tentative date set for the launch of LEGO's Monster Fighters, so keep watch.

Dance Spidey Dance

What an excellent time to be a comic book dork! We've got every sort of product you could dream of featuring our most popular characters, a Broadway play, countless films and many more to come with no end in sight. It is clear the planet has gone geek as our culture infiltrates every pour of society on a daily basis. Today, we find further proof of this with a killer video from 2007 (when our infiltration apparently began) featuring Orion Hall and Colleen Vernon performing a dance routine to Michael Buble's version of the Spider-Man theme song. Get ready to applaud uncontrollably...

Toy Fair 2012 Preview : LEGO DC Super Heroes Part 1

We've been showing off heaps of new toys and collectibles and in the weeks to come, there will be even more. Before we get buried in all those plastics to come, we thought we'd take a look at the latest toys you can score in stores right now. Let's kick things off with LEGO!

DC Super Heroes marks the first time LEGO is tackling an entire universe of comic book heroes and villains. We got a taste of what COULD be when LEGO last ventured into the Bativerse. Now LEGO builds (snicker) on that base and goes wild with the possibilities of what they could make and what we will scream for. We'll begin our photo sets with the larger scale figures, meant to offer the buildable function LEGO enthusiasts love along with the playability of an action figure, making it appealing to a wider audience. Has their math paid off? Only time will tell, but one visit to your local Toys R Us will reveal the only items left on the shelves from this line are these figures. This could be in part to the scalpers snapping up the other standard LEGO sets for resale on Ebay, so again, we'll have to wait and see if these are popular enough to warrant an entire Justice League and Legion of Doom! THAT thought should get you drooling.

For now, we've got the first three on shelves; Batman, The Joker and Green Lantern. We ditched the Lantern in favor of the Batman vs Joker face-off because..well..we had to draw the line somewhere!! These little suckers can get pricey. The larger scale figures assemble fairly quickly and have surprisingly tight joints, providing a stable system for maximum posability. I'll also note that you can do this posing without the figures falling apart in your hands. One detractor for hardcore comic fans may be the odd spider legs coming out of both figures' backs, as if they were manga mega bots of some sort. No worries..you can yank them out easily enough. For the sake of a complete view, we left our robo claws in. The Joker's weapon of choice is a sort of pop gun/ ray gun with appealing translucent parts while Batman gets a super destructo double edged sword. You are probably saying to yourself "these are for kids...where the hell would they fit into my collection?!" Our one thought was they ARE super mega manga bots you can pop your mini figures onto the backs of. I even had two little remotes to complete the look! GIANT ROBO WARRRR!!

Last year Hasbro got into the construction brick game with Transformers kits, giving you your favorite giant robot characters with directions to built your pieces into both vehicle and bot modes and their version of mini-figures which were, as expected, adorable. If the catalog at UK Toy Fair was any indication, the sets didn't quite catch fire, as most of the listings are for things we've seen on discount at retailers. There were some new items though..

Today, we begin with the TV series that owns the hearts and minds of the Brits and ain't doing too shabby in the states, either. The UK toy show had Who merch hidden on the show floor like buried treasure, so lets take a look at the cream of the crop.

Toy Fair 2012: McFarlane Also on HALO 4!

Hell, we might have all our details banged out before the US Toy Fair actually starts, leaving us to just post a billion pictures! Wouldn't that be swell...

Not much of a shocker here as McFarlane seem to love cranking out those Master Chiefs in every color imaginable. Here's the skinny...

This fall, Microsoft Studios and 343 Industries are releasing Halo 4, the highly anticipated video game expected to be one of the top entertainment launches of 2012. McFarlane Toys is proud to announce that its best-selling line of Halo action figures continues this fall as well, with figures from Halo 4.

Halo 4 brings back the most popular character of the Halo universe, the Master Chief, and kicks off an all-new trilogy of games. Dubbed the "Reclaimer Trilogy" by 343 Industries, these new games explore the characters of the Master Chief and Cortana, expand the Halo fiction in bold new ways and bring even more of the innovation that the Halo series is known for to the gaming world. McFarlane Toys Halo 4 action figures bring the all-new characters, weapons and vehicles of Halo 4 to video-game fans and action-figure collectors worldwide.

"Each new Halo game is a significant entertainment event," says Todd McFarlane, CEO and founder of McFarlane Toys. "Halo 4 marks the return of the Master Chief and Cortana, plus the introduction of new characters, weapons and locations sure to excite long-time fans."

The Halo 4 figure series continues in the 6-inch size introduced with their Halo: Reach figures. They're also introducing a series of larger, boxed figures. These deluxe items are in scale with their 6-inch figures, but include larger accessories, such as Master Chief's Cryotube.

McFarlane Toys is part of a select group of licensees with Halo 4 products available at game launch. Halo 4 Series 1 kicks off this August with four carded figures and one boxed figure set, and expands to include even more figures later in the fall.

August 2012

Carded Figures
• Master Chief
• Secret Figure 1
• Secret Figure 2
• Secret Figure 3

Boxed Figure
• Frozen Master Chief and Cryotube

November 2012

Carded Figures
• Cortana
• Secret Figure 4
• Secret Figure 5
• Secret Figure 6

Boxed Figure
• Secret Boxed Figure 1

Halo 4 Series 1 will be launched in August 2012, and will expand around the game launch in fall 2012, continuing into 2013. Available at Walmart, Target, Toys "R" Us, GameStop, local comic book stores, drug stores and other retailers. MSRP is $12 for standard carded figures and $25 for deluxe boxed figures.

HALO UNIVERSE

In addition to its all-new Halo 4 action figure line, McFarlane Toys is continuing its popular Halo: Anniversary series in fall 2012. Since the franchise's tenth anniversary has now passed, the line is being rebranded as "Halo Universe."

Halo Universe continues to bring fans the classic, fan-favorite characters from the earlier Halo games, and even includes "expanded universe" sources such as novels, comic books and the animated feature, Halo Legends. This series also continues the popular "build-a-figure" feature of our Halo: Anniversary lines, bringing collectors an extra bonus item such as the Difficulty Plaque or UNSC Logo.

Todd explains, "Halo 4 brings fans figures from the latest and greatest Halo video game. But Halo is a franchise with over a decade of incredible games, movies, books and comics. With our Halo Universe line, we can continue to offer long-time fans the classic characters they know and love."

Halo Universe Series 1 consists of five figures and one 6-inch-scale vehicle:

• Frederic-104 (Halo Legends)
• Romeo (Halo 3: ODST)
• Elite Commando (Halo 3)
• Brute Captain Major (Halo 3)
• Spartan (Multiplayer)
• ODST Drop Pod

Halo Universe Series 1 debuts in October 2012. Available at Walmart, Target, Toys "R" Us, GameStop, local comic book stores, drug stores, and other retailers. MSRP is $12 for figures and $39 for vehicles.

McFarlane will also be releasing a line of stylized mini-figures called Avatars...

"Rather than make up our own style of mini-figure, we decided to take advantage of the style that Xbox LIVE has established with their avatars. Since each avatar represents an individual gamer, players have a strong personal connection to their avatars. When you choose a Halo Spartan helmet for your avatar, that helmet becomes more than just a piece of some fictional character's clothing—it becomes part of your online persona. Avatars have become the mascot of the Xbox brand. To represent the customization options available for online avatars, McFarlane Toys' avatar figures feature interchangeable heads, torsos, and legs. Collectors can mix and match pieces to create their own custom avatar figures, much like they can with their online avatars. In addition to human characters and apparel, Halo Avatars also include various "prop" items such as Warthogs and Banshees.

Each 2 1/2"–tall avatar figure is randomly packaged in a small, Halo-themed plastic cylinder. The top and bottom of each cylinder can be removed, and each piece can be used as a display base. The tubes can even be connected, stacking to form a multi-level display. The MSRP of a single avatar figure is less than three dollars.

Halo Avatars Series 1 consists of eight random figures:

• Master Chief
• Carter
• ODST
• Flaming ODST Helmet and ODST T-Shirt
• Green Operator Helmet and Reach T-Shirt
• Elite Costume
• Warthog
• Metallic Gold Master Chief

Halo Avatars debut in fall 2012 and continues into 2013. Available at Walmart, Target, Toys "R" Us, GameStop, local comic book stores, drug stores, and other retailers.

And finally, we have MICRO OPS!

This all-new series consists of miniature figures, vehicles, and locations from the entire Halo universe, at roughly 1:100/15mm scale.

With its smaller size, Halo Micro Ops covers the Halo universe, from the tiniest Grunt to the largest Scarab. With such a wide range of product sizes to cover, Micro Ops is available in four different packages. Small carded sets include small vehicles like the Warthog and Ghost. Larger carded sets offer bigger vehicles such as the Falcon, or small buildings like the Bunker from the Halo 3 multiplayer map High Ground. Larger buildings, including the Tower or Gate sections of High Ground, are packaged in small boxes, while large vehicles such as the Elephant will be packaged in an even larger box. With UNSC, Covenant and Forerunner forces, the entire Halo universe is yours to command. The only limit is your imagination.

The initial Micro Ops lines cover the Halo trilogy, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Wars, and Halo: Reach. Later lines will add figures, vehicles, and environments from Halo 4. Series 1 includes:

Small Carded Sets
• Warthog and Mongoose
• Banshee
• Ghost vs. Wolf Spider turret
• ODST Drop Pods

Large Carded Sets
• Falcon
• High Ground Bunker with Shade turret

Small Boxed Sets
• High Ground Gate with Warthog
• High Ground Tower and SAM Launcher

Large boxed sets will be available in 2013.

Halo Micro Ops debuts in August 2012 and continues into 2013. Available at Target, Toys "R" Us, local comic book stores, and other retailers. MSRPs range from $8 for the small carded sets, $18 for large carded sets and $29 for the small boxed sets.

Toy Fair 2012: NECA's New Jasons & More

NECA have been dream makers for some time now, and if you think that opening sentiment is silly, you are NOT a hardcore horror fan! What other company would do the leads from Lost Boys, Robocop, the first Terminator AND an entire line of Gremlins in both cute n fuzzy and mean n scary forms?! Now NECA get back to the core horror icons with a new release of a 7 inch action figure of Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th part 3! We expect him to start surfacing around June of 2012. Since Freddy Krueger got a full line of figures all to himself, we can expect Jason to get the same love. Further evidence of this comes from NECA's own twitter where they revealed a head for one of their Jason figures that looks more from Part 4 than Part 3!

NECA will have tons of new plastics to show off at the NY Toy Fair in around three weeks. Their lineup includes...

(highlighted bits are links for lots of eye candy!)

Three Hunger Games Action Figures (Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark & Gale Hawthorne) and various nicknacks
Bioshock - Infinite figures
Valve figures (from Portal, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead & Half Life)
Borderlands
Assassins Creed - Revelations
Gears of War 3
E.T. figures and other awesome collectibles
