Funko's The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies Pop! Vinyl Figures

Beware the coming of SMAUG...the great and ...adorable...cutimuffins. Yea, Funko can take the most dread foe in all the kingdoms and reduce him to squishable status....except for Sauron. He still looks badass. It's in his contract. Funko increases their mini plastic army with new forces from this December's installment of The Hobbit film series; The Battle of Five Armies. Funko are keeping the full lineup under their hats (if there are to be more released under this film's title), so for now, we bring you Tauriel and a 6 inch super-sized Smaug Pop that can be found with two different eyes; full black or dragon lusting for gold...ish! Also on tap will be Sauron from The Lord of the Rings, most likely due to his fiery appearance in The Desolation of Smaug.

Smaug Action Figure Finally Joining The Hobbit Toy Line

HE IS COMING!!! His wingspan is 22 inches of (scale!) hurricane fury. His 21 inch height allows him to cast a shadow on an entire Schleich Smurf village. 140 painting procedures will ensure his might is recreated in painstaking detail. HE IS SMAUG!! ...and he's finally going to be joining your Hobbit action figure collection!!

From the depths of Erebor and the film The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies comes this detailed, limited edition Smaug the dragon large scale action figure, complete with a surprise 1.5" figure and accessory.  Featuring an impressive 22 inch wingspan, Smaug stands tall, measuring 21 inches.  No details were overlooked as this center piece of any action figure collection was in development.  Smaug boasts ten points of articulation and underwent over 140 painting procedures.  The figure is plastic, but Smaug's tail and wingtips have a wire core, allowing for additional poses.  This item has a limited edition production run of 3000 units and each box will be labeled with a gold sticker indicating the number.  Please note:  no special requests can be made for specific numbers.  Measurements are approximate and some assembly is required.  Note:  the surprise figure and accessory will be revealed at a later date.  Age 8+.

SDCC 2014: Pre-Show: On the Show Floor with DC, Marvel, Legendary, NECA, Teddy Scares & More

A little under 3 hours and the flood gates will open as the rabid hordes of geekdom storm the castle known as SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2014!!! As the hour creeps closer, our friends from 15 years of dorky news coverage are scrambling to finish their booths and make themselves presentable for the public, all of which doesn't stop them from showing off their spaces! Let's take a look around the show floor and discuss what's being unveiled this year...

We're being told this year's Comic-Con theme is "in mourning" as evidenced by the black tarps and drapes EVERYWHERE. In years past, a small group of ninja-like press could run the floor and snap pics of every little thing without being bothered much at all. Come Thursday, that story would change drastically as security would warn you to stay with your booth, as the other vendors don't want pre-show photography. This year it seems NO ONE wants pre-show photography, as a couple of our friends were already shoo'd away and threatened with ejection if they took one more fuzzy camera phone picture. Serious crack down, huh? Never the less, we have some tidbits to share.

Toy Fair 2014: A Grim Future For Hobbit Toys

Last year, around this time, we featured the first images of several new figures from The Hobbit toy line from The Bridge Direct for the second installment, The Desolation of Smaug. On display were all the remaining dwarves not yet produced (Nori, Ori, Dori, Gloin, Oin, Bifur, Bofur and Bombur), Radagast the Brown, Azog and his Warg and Bolg (pre-Weta last minute movie make over) for the 3 and 3 quarter inch scale. 6 inch figure additions included Azog and Radagast.

As December rolled around and the film came and went, those action figure release plans didn't exactly come to pass. So what did show up on retailer shelves? A 3 and 3 quarter inch Mirkwood Hero 5 Pack with only 1 new figure (Thranduil), a repackaged 6 inch Legolas and two new 6 inch figures of Azog and Radagast. That's 3 new figures for those keeping score...a little shy of the 19 figures released for the first film. Bolg squeaked by as part of the first film's 2 packs. No dwarves, no smaller scale Azog and absolutely no sign of the Smaug dragon the Bridge crew was encouraging us to shout for in February of 2013.

Watch The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug World Premiere LIVE

At this posting, it's 10 minutes til show time and I blame the world of geekery for not alerting me to this sooner. FOR SHAME!! I, myself, am counting the moments til the date when I can sit with friends and watch the film, most definately with the previous film before it. It seems like a lifetime away..but that's how dorky I am for WETA's perfect creations, ie: the Lord of the Rings series and all that take place within that world. Sure, I was a bit underwhelmed with the first instalment, but there were clearly decisions made to make this series a little less intense for little minds to absorb. Over time, I've come to look past the little things, accept that this is NOT Lord of the Rings and just soak up the beauty of every scene. The details will astound you. Nuff said..hit the jump and enjoy..and I'll see you back here on opening day to pick it apart..for this is the way of our people.

SDCC 2013: The Bridge Direct's Hobbit Exclusive

Nasty, filthy Hobbitses. Always tromping about where they're not wanted. Stealing..sneaksing..chewing on anythings they thinks is foodses. If only there was someones who would put the axe to their skinny Hobbit neckses....

Maybe AZOG will get the job done...

7” tall Orc Commander Azog comes in a numbered, limited edition of 2,600 pieces. Azog is depicted as he appears in the prologue scene from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. In the battle between the dwarves and an army of orcs to reclaim Moria, Azog holds the severed head of the dwarf King Thror up in victory. The figure comes with interchangeable hands – the right hand that holds Thror’s head can be replaced with a hand capable of holding either his dagger or mace, and the left hand can be switched with the prosthetic spikes that replaced the hand he lost to Thorin’s sword.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Footage!

To celebrate the release of the first Hobbit film on Blu-ray and DVD, Peter Jackson rallied the troops to talk about the next installment and show a nice, fat clip featuring Gandalf and your favorite poo-headed wizard, Radagast! Stay on board after the clip and see some "making of" bits from The Desolation of Smaug as well. Now the real question is, will a meaty clip like this tide you over in the months to come or further enhance the agony of a long wait til the second film in the series premieres?? LET'S FIND OUT!!

Toy Fair 2013 : The Bridge Direct's The Hobbit

Back into Toy Fair 2013 with an update on The Bridge Direct's The Hobbit action figure line! We are one film down and 2 to go...and fans have nooooo idea how they are going to stretch that out. While we'd hoped to glean some insight on that from the toy line....no such luck. That Peter Jackson is a crafty mofo. The Bridge's initial 2013 offerings seem to focus squarely on rounding out their first film, but that doesn't mean they aren't going to get out two waves this year. Perhaps one in the second quarter and one right before the next film's release. No actual word on that, but here's what we do know...

Action figures, playsets, mini collectible figures, roleplay and board games all on the way. PLAYSETS!!! Yaaaay. The Mini collectible figures they mention appear to be those we covered HERE. Looks like they will bring them to the US, so Hobbit fans, get ready to share in the pains of mystery figure hunting. aaaannnd...go.

Black Milk Tease Their Hobbits

Among all the things that make it difficult to be a Lady Geek in the world we exist in today...resisting awesome but expensive geek fashion has to be high up there as one of the worst day to day activities. Black Milk can be listed right along Satan as a leading tempter of humankind with their Star Wars dresses and leggings and when they announced they'd be venturing into Lord of the Rings/ Hobbit territory...you could call them downright evil. Today we get a sneak preview of what you can expect from the line...which is probably exactly what you thought you could expect...

See..guys only get tempted by fairly cheap dorky T shirts every day and MAYBE the occasional phaser burned red shirt tie from Anovos. Weep for your sisters! Only through solidarity can we make it through. We shall overcome....hobbit dresses.

A Nasty Quarter Scale Hobbits

Because Hobbits is obviously the singular of Hobbitses. NECA have been dominating the Movie and Video Game action figure realms in a 7 inch format for some time. Now, they are obviously bored and looking to conquer the lands of higher plastic scales. Since today is All Hobbit's Eve, we thought it appropriate to bring out the star of the show. NECA's large scale Gollum is already hitting shelves across the planet and now, Mr. Bilbo Baggins is getting ready to join him!

Bilbo stands 12" tall and features over 20 points of articulation. He is dressed in his traveling outfit and comes with his sword, "Sting", and a sheath. The photorealistic portrait of actor Martin Freeman has to be seen to be believed.

Bilbo is in scale with previous figure releases like Gollum and the classic NECA Epic scale collection of Aragorn, Legolas, and Gandalf.

Big Dwarf...Lil Dwarf

December 14th. Just a week more. Sure, all your journalist friends have seen it already, but you have the reserve to wait ONE MORE WEEK TO SEE THE FRAKKIN HOBBIT!!!! ~phew~ Ok..got that out of the way.

ONE MORE WEEK TIL THE HOBBIT!!!! In celebration, the Hobbity facebook has released a string of pictures with the cast of ....wait for it......The Hobbit...posing with their teeny, tiny plastic LEGO counterparts. I'm reminded of two awesome things when I look at these photos...
