Fillion Takes Philly

When Nathan Fillion isn't answering the heated, desperate questions sent by the hordes of Twitter, he is a very busy man with an acting career that stretches well beyond that little Firefly show you keep demanding return...in any form. Of course I am being sarcastic...but only when I don't include myself in the group begging for more Firefly. Browncoats Rule. ANYWAY, the man called Fillion is so busy, as to not disappoint fans chasing him down the halls of San Diego Comic Con, he created these cards...

If you attend Philadelphia Wizard World this Spring...the chase will be over.

Firefly 10th Anniversary Special Reviewed

Before we get into the specifics of this weekend's long awaited special, I have a confession to make. I started in on Firefly...backwards. My first run in with the show was Diamond Select asking for coverage of their tiny action figure line. I wasn't familiar with the property, but I'm sure we ran some news on Action-figure.com. At around the same time, Universal was looking to push the film along the same grass roots channels that got it made in the first place, and so a little toy news site like A-F seemed like a good place to shout out to the masses. We pushed the movie, ran trailers and a contest and for my efforts, the studio sent me a mini poster with autographs from the cast. Remember, I'd never seen the show, but I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer so I held onto the mini and probably wound up seeing the movie when it came to DVD. Suffice to say, I loved what I saw so I went out in search of the TV show and the rest is history. I've lost count of how many devotees of the show I've created by just saying "FUCKING IGNORE that it is a western...and FUCKING IGNORE the space ships. It's Joss Whedon. TRUST ME!!" When people give the show a chance they are more likely to fall in love than not.

Nathan Fillion Wins Comic-Con

When you see a celebrity on the show floor of San Diego Comic Con, one of three things can happen. As was the case with Don Cheadle and me, you get blanked completely. With wrestler Shane Helms at an Activision party, we talked for half an hour before I cut him loose to have fun. Other celebs will very politely do whatever they can that only takes a second..or politely decline as, if they stop, they'll have to pose for hundreds who then realize their shot at a face to face encounter. Then there is Nathan Fillion who realizes and is grateful for his many, many fans and considered a way to give them something to talk about while still able to rush to his engagements and arrive on time and un-molested. Check out his solution on the left...

Thanks to NerdBastards on facebook for the heads up!

G.I.Joe: Retaliation Trailer #2

Time for another dose of potential awesome with super soldiers of a more traditional sort...if you think men and women with killer high tech gear, weapons and armament is traditional! Sadly, this trailer is NOT the reveal for Shipwreck and his snarky parrot companion. I hold out hope.

In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence. The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed by Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner, from a screenplay by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick based on Hasbro's G.I. Joe® characters.

Sundance 2010: Alan Tudyk Talks Firefly, Spin-off Comic by Patton Oswalt

While interviewing Alan Tudyk for his latest project, the comedy horror flick Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Dread Central’s team of Heather Wixson and Brian Smith thought they’d take the opportunity to talk with Tudyk about Joss Whedon’s "Firefly". WHO WOULDN'T?! I personally told her to walk in the room and after he says hello, yell "I'm a LEAF IN THE WIND!!" At any rate, clicky the Alan and dive on in.

Your Whedon Minute: Dr. Horrible VS The Hero of Canton

Fresh from the labs at Quantum Mechanix! It seems only fitting that the first authorized and fully-licensed Dr. Horrible Animated Maquette is of the man with the PhD in Horribleness himself.

Cast in professional-grade resin and painted by hand, Dr. Horrible is pictured in his moment of triumph, holding his Freeze Ray aloft in one hand and shaking his fist at the world. As with all QMx animated maquettes, Dr. Horrible comes with many screen-accurate details, such as his goggles, the medical symbol on his smock and, of course, the aforementioned deanimation gun. He stands over six inches tall – nine, if you include his weapon. Freeze Ray. Tell your friends.

Dr. Horrible comes in an edition of 1,000 statues and is the first in a series of limited-edition maquettes based on the characters of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

Third in QMx's hit series of Serenity Little Damn Heroes limited-edition animated maquettes, "Thrilling Heroics" stars none other than the man they call Jayne (Cobb) himself. Standing 4.5 inches tall, the Jayne maquette is cast in resin, hand-painted and comes holding Jayne's very favorite gun, Vera. He's sculpted wearing the cunning hat knit by his ma and wearing his Blue Sun t-shirt. The one what got River so riled.

Offered in an edition of just 1,000 individually-numbered statues and priced at $49.95 each, you best get Jayne before he's gone. We hear he's got a crappy town named after him and that he's skilled at the public relations. Sounds like it's good to have Jayne on your side. Just remember: The living legend needs eggs!

Tucker & Dale VS Evil

Anything with Alan Tudyk is an instant win in my book...
