Toy Fair 2025: Playmobil Preview

There's something about a Playmobil set that sparks the imagination, even when it belongs to a fully grown human boy! Let me tell you about the sheer joy blowing out my face as I cracked open and assembled the Scooby-Doo graveyard and haunted mansion. Toys like this remind you that they were made for FUN, far from the politics and rampant negativity that clings to large toy lines like barnacles on a boat. Toy Fair 2025: The LEGO Group and Van Gogh Museum Unveil Sunflowers LEGO Set

Today, the LEGO Group unveils the LEGO Art Vincent van Gogh - Sunflowers set. Created in close collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the brick-built painting captures the iconic brushstrokes of Van Gogh’s masterpiece.

The 2615-piece set enables fans to immerse themselves in Van Gogh’s art and to learn more about the inspiration behind one of his most beloved paintings: Sunflowers (1889). The set has been carefully designed to create a 3-D brick version focusing on the three radiant shades of yellow and Van Gogh’s famous use of light and shade. The set features the 16 sunflowers of the painting with adjustable petals, a removable frame, a tile with Van Gogh’s signature and a hanger element to display.

The LEGO Group and Disney Unleash new Hocus Pocus Set

Today, the LEGO Group and Disney unleashed magical mayhem with the new Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters Cottage set! 

Based on the iconic cottage from the 1993 hit blockbuster, the bewitching story has come back to life once more, revealing all the magical events that happened in the Sanderson home, now in brick form. UK Toy Fair 2023: Naruto Keeps Running at Playmobil

This season of Anime has seen the breakout success of Chainsawman and the continued domination of My Hero Academia while Attack on Titan threatens to stretch their finale into 2025, yet through it all, we can always count on NARUTO collectibles gracing the retail pegs. LEGO Steamboat Willie Set Reveal

Disney Mickey Mouse fans will love this LEGO® Ideas 21317 Steamboat Willie building toy marking the 90th anniversary of the most famous cartoon character ever. Mickey Mouse made his screen debut in a 1928 black-and-white animated short film called ‘Steamboat Willie’, which was also the first Disney film to have synchronized sound. This LEGO brick version of the S.S. Willie features steam pipes that move up and down and paddle wheels that rotate when the boat is pushed along. The boat’s bridge has room for a minifigure and play-inspiring nautical details such as the ship’s wheel, life buoy and buildable bell. LEGO Summer 2018 Unikitty Sets

We had a nice, lengthy visit with LEGO involving tiny pizzas, tiny burgers, tiny tacos, tiny cupcakes and...umm..regular size beers! Among the Star Wars, Incredibles 2 and Harry Potter sets on display was a tightly packed section just for our favorite hyper active LEGO cartoon star, UNIKITTY!! We photographed 6 sets and one collectible, blind-bag figure series, so strap on your kittycorn horn and start saving your toy moneys...

At the recent Sweet Suite event in New York, We got a little 1 on 1 time with one of LEGO's newest sets from the upcoming Ninjago movie! The Lightning Jet features some killer design work and lines that would make LEGO Batman whip out his checkbook. Here's the skinny:

Eye Candy: McFarlane Building Five Nights at Freddy's: The Office

The phenomenon of Five Nights at Freddy's is a very modern thing, much like Adventure Time's rise to popularity among younger viewers. When we first talked to the Adventure Time crew, we asked who their weird little show was meant for. Unanimously, they said US. Older folks..25-40, who are bizarre and love to laugh at odball characters being completely random. Surprisingly, the super intelligent while still profoundly silly, often very thoughtful show struck a chord with kids and so, the content needed to be chilled out a bit and rendered "safe" for little minds. That...seeeeems to be what's happening to Five Nights at Freddy's?? I can't speak to the future of the license, but I can say that creepy children pulling at the purse strings of their parents has created a MIGHTY NEED for merchandise, making it's way to you...right...meow.

LEGOLAND Coming to New York

It's OK to be mad at us. We of the tri-state areas are spoiled rotten. We've got every convention imaginable, smaller monthly toy and comic shows, museums, multiple stadiums and....the Crayola factory. Now we find that Merlin Industries has begun laying down the building blocks (go on and groan) for a LEGOLAND theme park in Goshen, New York...and you'd better believe thousands of grown up geeks are already preparing to line up...

Toy Fair 2016: Full Details on LEGO's Captain America: Civil War Sets

Sometimes there are news items that are have already been explored by the uber fans, but can be unfamiliar to the average person with geeky interests. LEGO's Marvel Super Heroes Captain America: Civil War building sets could be counted among these topics. Still, reporting on new news as it drops sometimes means you get bits of the story a little at a time, and so those that pop in later can combine all those bits into a fairly comprehensive report. Today, Idle Hands forms Voltron with all the bits and pieces of info around the inerwebs to show you a fairly complete picture of these new Marvel LEGO sets, complete with eye candy and a run down of all the features you'll want to explore when you tear your boxes open on release day.

Toy Fair 2016: McFarlane Expands Building Lines with Five Nights at Freddy's

Seems everyone wants a piece of Five Nights at Freddy's these days! At Target the other day, I spotted blind packaged mini figures and mini plush keychains. Funko has a whoooole line of items dropping in the near future including action figures, plush, pencil toppers, mystery minis and more. Now McFarlane takes a slice of the spooky pie, adding Five Nights to their building set line, which currently boasts Game of Thrones and Walking Dead collections!

NYCC 2015: LEGO's Nexo Knights

As New York Comic Con opens it's doors on their first day for 2015, fans are now experiencing what we call"geek overload" which is the semi-adult version of a kid walking into a great toy store and being told PICK ONE THING. ANY ONE THING. Amid the men in tights, monsters with 5000 teeth and world stomping robots is a little company called LEGO and their modest announcement of a new toy line, in the form of a lil purple castle. Welcome to LEGO Nexo Knights!

The LEGO Group today announced LEGO® NEXO KNIGHTS,™ a new, original LEGO property depicting a medieval kingdom set in a futuristic world where five young, brave knights “download” special powers to their shields in order to battle the royal court’s evil Jestro and a cast of monsters to restore peace. The story comes to life through LEGO building sets, an episodic television and a digital gaming app that fuels story-driven gameplay. The property launches later this year, with products available starting January 1, 2016. LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS characters, story, app experience and two iconic building sets from the collection will be previewed to New York Comic Con attendees, Thursday, October 8 through Sunday, October 11 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (Booth #1436).

We covered a handful of leaks from Hasbro's 3.75 inch basic line (featuring only 5 points of articulation and limited paints at a lower price) a couple of days back.
