Heather Buckley VS New York Comic Con 2012: Day 2 & 3

We sent Heather Buckley to New York Comic Con 2012 to discover the wonders of this nerdy oasis in the heart of the mean city, knowing full well her horror convention instincts would lead her to adventure. We found Heather, crumpled and beaten, at the bottom of the stairs at Midtown Comics. It seems she stayed alive just long enough to write up this blog, edit her pictures and pen a lengthy odyssey-like tale of love and loss starring Peter Weller and Philip K. Dick. It was a buddy movie. The latter will be released in 2016, when Peter Weller has ripened. For now...this is Heather Buckley's Comic Con tale...

  ABOUT LOYD:

My key goal today was to meet Christopher Lloyd. It was 50 bucks for his autograph and I had my Christopher Lloyd sack with me it case he could be captured and displayed in my parlor. I even posted the price and banner with Lloyd’s name on it to crowd source my answer: do I do it?

I mean, Lloyd is getting up there and when I was 14 years old, we were asked to write a letter to our favorite person and I picked him. I made my Mother tape every Taxi episode he was on. I loved him in Back to the Future, One Flew over the Cuucook’s Nest, Amazing Stories... I had to meet him, even if it was for one second. I needed a brush with Lloyd greatness.

The NECA Report: Carrie, Prometheus and Gremlins

Our last NECA update showed off a long awaited Portal figure for the game-obsessed alongside a new Dutch from Predator and a new scale for Gears of War action figures! Today's update isn't as earth shattering, but a Carrie action figure (though not based on the original film) is something to shout about..isn't it?

NECA continue their domination of the horror plastics universe with two new action figures from the upcoming Carrie remake (releasing March 15, 2013) with Chloƫ Grace Moretz (Hit Girl) in the title role. The 7 inch figure duo make up a sort of before and after...one depicting the moment just before being crowned Prom Queen...and one right after, drenched in pig's blood and gearing up tear some students apart with her freaky mind powers. The latter is sure to be a sought after piece for horror fans...unless they are King/De Palma purists, in which case they can sit there with their frowny faces and leave the plastics for the rest of us. The pair are said to drop (individually) late January. That's late Feb/Early March for those in the US.

Casting Info for X-Men: Days of Future Past

Hollywood's relationship with comics is funny. At times, the creatives of the film love the source material so much they stick to every beat ..and the public hates it. Others have contempt for the source material and strive to create a product with more bang for your buck, altering characters beloved by the comics community at large..and the public AND the comic geeks hate it. X-Men: First Class was an untouchable duck. After the under-performing last couple of X films, even Fox execs rolling around Toy Fair were nothing but grateful to the sole licensor for their film, as everyone expected this wildly divergent project to get a big thumbs down. Surprise surprise...people loved it. Now Bryan Singer; the man who made the original X-Men film a box office success story; has returned to direct the "sequel" Days of Future Past..and he's bringing the old and new gangs with him.

And now...the news...

Professor Elemental - I'm Brittish

No snow today, but quite a bit of wet, which makes me long for my days of intense stomach pains from bad food, unruly weather and bitter, bitter cold as we stood alongside some old rocks. Yes, I speak of my adventure to the UK...where people reroute for a peacock in the road and you aren't allowed to have water with lunch at the pub. It's just not done. Here's a message from one of our favorite Brits; Professor Elemental, who would like to play you a jaunty little tune...

"Well hello. To counter this dark, wintery drudge we find ourselves wedged inside, may we offer a little splendid summer sunshine - the first single from the BRAND NEW Professor Elemental album, 'Father Of Invention'. Available right blooming now, from http://www.professorelemental.com - Starring the great and good from the world of Steampunk and beyond!

Nasty Mystery Hobbitses

Those nasty, filthy, thieving hobbitses are going to be all over merchandising for the next month or so! We've taken more than a couple of looks at toys celebrating the good, the bad and the gobliny of Middle Earth (HERE and HERE and HERE)and now, we'll get a glimpse of some more plastics to add to your desk armies...

The Vivid Toy Group out of the UK nabbed a Hobbit license and teased "a range of collectables to coincide with the major movie release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Though their website still says "coming soon", the pre-orders have begun to drop..ready or not! Seems as if Vivid will be releasing a line of blind packaged, mini Hobbit figures with characters including Thorin Oakenshield, Grinnah the Goblin, Bofur the Dwarf, another Goblin, Gandalf in two different poses, Tauriel, Gollum, Bolg, Yazneg, Bolbo Baggins in two different poses, Kili the Dwarf, Dwalin the Dwarf, Balin the Dwarf, Fili the Dwarf and Radagast. Each sculpt will come in silver metal, gold and bronze colorways. No word yet on the rarities of each character, but we'll be looking to find out!

Heather Buckley VS New York Comic Con 2012: Day 1

Some press folks rush home from their daily toils at conventions to post their scoops, sneaks and rumors. We here at Idle Hands like to ruminate on our findings, letting them gel until the consistency of a fine paste we can use to affix the geektastic informations like a Motley Crue tour poster engaged to a brick wall..forever intertwined. We sent Heather Buckley out into the microcosm of New York Comic Con to experience the show as only a Heather Buckley could. This...is her story.

DAY ONE:

NERD HORDE
I got to Jacob Javits Center the earliest I could on October 13th in the year of our Time Lord 2012. After being ushered into the industry entrance, I was given a Walking Dead badge (a female zombie, claw grasped around a gate for Press) and moved my way though a rainbow of nerds, geeks, and fan boys in various states of fancy dress.

I saw a slew of anime demon girls with candy corn horns—wondering all along whom they were supposed to be and why there were so many have them. I saw lots of Catwomen in all shapes and controversial sizes. 15,000 female Lokis (the new Catwoman for Cosplay?) and Ghostbusters. Some commented on my bihawk and asked who I was dressed as (“I am dressed as Heather Buckley, maybe you should try it sometime.”).  All this attempting to get to my candy apple goal: Bruce Timm.

LEGO Minifigures Series 9

Some addictions...you just have to kick. For me, it was army building. Why have 1 Battle Troll when you ca have 13??!! Why do I need this Clone Trooper? BECAUSE HE'S BLUE!!! THE LAST ONE WAS GREEN!!!! WHY WOULD YOU EVEN ASK SUCH A QUESTION??!! It all leads to madness. One addiction I nipped in the bud before it got too bad was LEGO Minifigures...those ultra frustrating, blind packaged, over priced, single packed figures o doom. To those of you still hooked on this plastic crack, I bow my head...and submit the rumored list for Series 9. God have mercy on my soul.

RUMORED LIST - Alien Trooper, Chicken Suit Guy, Maid Marion, Heroic Knight, Cyclops, Mermaid, Fortune Teller, Dr. Splitz, Roller Derby Girl, Judge, Battle Mech, Caesar, Downtown Cop, Plumber, Waiter and Hollywood Starlet.

My favorite would be Steampunk Two Face. Bring em' on. Thanks to Matt Booker for the intel!

The NECA Report: Predator, Portal, Gears of War & More!

With the holidays quickly approaching, all our plastic huntings will go on hold as our loved ones attempt to snap up at least a couple of items from our wish lists..or as it is in my case, have them say "this stuff is stupid..can't we get you something PRACTICAL?!" Well, sister of mine...practical is often also BORING..and un-Christmas like..so..yea..get with the spirit. Dig? If there's one company that doesn't know the meaning of boring, it is the amazingly talented folks at NECA. This latest round of reveals will prove they haven't lost a step, continue to be the dream fulfillment bureau of our toy planet and don't skimp on the Ka-POW in every plastic pop culture idol they release. Let's begin with the show stopper...
