Marvel Select Blade Daywalks Into Comic Shops This Week

Vampires beware! The fearless vampire hunter Blade has arrived in comic shops, courtesy of Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Select action figure line, and he is ready for war!

Equipped with an arsenal of weapons, including sword, guns, stakes and more, plus the holsters to carry it all, this 1:10 scale figure of Eric “Cross” Brooks also includes interchangeable normal and vamped-out heads.

Diamond Select Building Their Fantastic Four

With his introduction as one of the Illuminati and an admittedly lackluster power display in a fight against The Scarlet Witch, Reed Richards AKA Mr. Fantastic made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and so comic fans patiently await the introduction of the Fantastic Four in the proper Marvel Movie Universe. Never one to miss out on breaking geek trends, Diamond Select has been building their own Marvel Select Fantastic Four action figure team. Many moons ago, The Thing had his day among their release lineup. Most recently, The Human Torch premiered in blazing translucent plastic and parts that allowed you to make him either The Fantastic Four's Johnny Storm or Jim Hammond, the original Torch. It's a must-have figure! Now, it's time for the rest of the team to take the spotlight...

Toy Fair 2017: Marvel Select Guardians of the Galaxy Action Figures Landing Soon!

Since the current team was formed in 2008, the Guardians of the Galaxy have become some of the Marvel Universe’s most popular characters. Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Groot and Rocket Raccoon have stopped numerous intergalactic threats – and starred in their own feature film – but they have yet to appear in the long-running Marvel Select line of action figures, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Now, Marvel Shop, the Disney Store and Diamond Select Toys are proud to bring the full team to stores as four all-new action figure sets based on their comic book appearances!

A Modern Hawkeye Figure For A New Age

When our favorite heroes are re-imagined ...reformatted...straight up redesigned or worse, rebooted, a new costume is sure to come. Often (as we are geeks), these changes are met with anger. Just...a little anger. More often than not, that anger is at least somewhat well founded, as the redesign sucks all the fun out of the original concept or changes the look of the character so profoundly as to render them unrecognizable. Sometimes..it's just awesome.

The recent Hawkeye comic book has been creating a buzz for some time now with a fantastic style that introduces a noir element to the storytelling and a team of creatives that breathed new life into what was largely considered a one note character. Now Diamond Select celebrates Hawkeyes killer modern look with a Disney Store Exclusive action figure so awesome, no one thought to tell anyone about it til it hit stores and an excited collector decided to share it with us! Kevil Teppel wandered into a Disney Store in Illinois and came across the figure that's about to jump to the top of everyone's Most Wanted list.

An Exclusive Captain America Figure for MarvelStore

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier number one at the box office, interest in the star-spangled Avenger is at an all-time high! The action-packed thriller sees Captain America teaming up with the Falcon and the Black Widow for one of the toughest battles of his career, and now Diamond Select Toys is teaming up with MarvelStore.com to create an exclusive battle-damaged figure of the hero, available May 19!

Starting on May 19, MarvelStore.com will be the only place to order the Marvel Select Unmasked Captain America figure, featuring an exclusive head sculpt of Steve Rogers, as well as a battle-damaged version of his stealth uniform. An exclusive battle-damaged version of Cap's shield will be included in the packaging, as well as an interchangeable masked head and a diorama display base modeled after the SHIELD helicarriers seen in the film. All will come packaged in the distinctive Marvel Select packaging, suitable for display and featuring spine artwork for easy shelf reference.

Toy Fair 2014: Diamond Select Prepares for Captain America: Winter Soldier

It's that time of year where giant size corporations snag the most sought after toy reveals, shouting to their teaming masses about things their demographic generally cares nothing about. Yea, yea...I'm bitter. Today MTV takes a break from Teen Mothers and Macklemore's Tweets to reveal a small stack of Diamond Select's Captain America Winter Soldier merchandise. Here's the weird part...and this happens every year as well...particularly to Diamond. Marvel/Disney must have straight up given Diamond (ie; Previews Magazine) the go ahead to reveal Falcon from Hasbro's 3.75 inch action figure line (which we showed off HERE), but could there still be some mandate that Captain America's Stealth Suit (seen in action figure pictures and the trailer) be somewhat secret??!! Check this. To the left is the suit in question via the Marvel Select Captain America: Winter Soldier Action Figure, which has been kept under a silhouette until today. Notice the oddball thing? Take a closer look...

Marvel Select's The Amazing Spider-Man 2

There's plenty of Amazing Spider-Man 2 merchandise already in major retail stores across the planet, well in advance of the film's May 2nd release date, but it wouldn't be a complete Marvel Comics movie toy line without Marvel Select pitching in! While Hasbro does a fine job of packing in articulation and style, Diamond Select excels in minute details as well as delivering a fun product adult and kid collectors can't pass up!

The Amazing Spider-Man is back in an all-new big-screen adventure this summer, and he's also back in the hit Marvel Select line! This 7-inch-scale figure depicts Spidey in his brand-new costume, and features 16 points of articulation as well as interchangeable parts and accessories. Comes packaged in display-ready Select packaging with spine reference artwork. Designed and sculpted by Gentle Giant, due out this summer!

Our Plastic Friends: Marvel Select Rhino

Welcome to the first edition of Our Plastic Friends, where we check out a new toy and make you want it so bad, you hate us for it. It's a calling.

Diamond Select/ Marvel Select have had a 7 inch scaled action figure license for Marvel Comics for some time now. The sculpts are excellent, the paints are clean and plentiful and the quality is top notch. If there was one thing I could point out with this line that we DO continually moan about is the character choice. After all, we've got Hasbro cranking out endless numbers of Spider-Man, Iron Man and Captain America action figures...WE DON'T NEED NO MO!! There's also a matter of a 6 inch scale most of us toy obsessed folks have been collecting for years, so while we don't need 7 inch standard sized heroes and villains, we do welcome gargantuan monsters and overly pumped up, roid ragin humans who look like they can swallow up our heroes in one gulp. Give us giant sized Marvel characters and we'll just throw our money at you as we pass..all day long. THIS is where Marvel Select slides in like an 8 foot ninja with no smoke bombs.

Marvel Select Rhino Dropping This Month

Watch out, Spider-Man fans! One of the web-slinger's pointiest and most unstoppable foes is heading your way! The leather-skinned Rhino will arrive in comic shops and specialty stores in January, packaged in Diamond Select's familiar Select-style packaging, suitable for shelf and wall display. Designed and sculpted by Gentle Giant, the Rhino nearly 8.5 inches tall with 16 points of articulation, and is ready to tear through your Marvel Select collection like tissue paper. Reserve one today at your local comic shop or your favorite online toy store, and look for him to hit stores in early 2013!

New Iron Man 3 Toy Plans

When we last discussed the future of Iron Man via the upcoming film (Iron Man 3 AKA Mo' Iron, Mo' Drinks, Less Sexy Time) in the hands of Hasbro, we outlined new play features, vehicles... and for those paying attention, a slight (ever so slight) movie spoiler! Now, new pre-orders back up our initial intel and present exciting news for Marvel Legends fans...

Disney Stores Exclusive Marvel Action Figures

Diamond Select/ Marvel Select have been working over time to feed those Marvel Zombies who haven't seen a Marvel Legends or Marvel Universe wave for some time now. Now The Disney Store gets in on their sculptural genius with a small wave of exclusive figures you'll only see on their pegs.

Marvel toy collectors just got another reason to put the nearest Disney Store in their GPS. After partnering with Diamond Select Toys on four exclusive Marvel Select Avengers figures and two exclusive Amazing Spider-Man movie figures, the Disney Store has teamed up with DST yet again, to deliver three new Marvel Select figures that collectors will be dying to own!

The first figure (available now) is the Savage Hulk, a new, modern Hulk based on artist Marc Silvestri's rendering of the character in recent issues of the Incredible Hulk from Marvel Comics. Depicting a more intelligent version of the Hulk than previous Select offerings, this figure was sculpted by frequent Marvel Select contributor Jean St. Jean, and stands over 9 inches tall with 16 points of articulation.

Hasbro's 6 Inch Avengers Movie Figures

We saw these at New York Comic Con and tried to get an update every month since then, but as that often works out in the toy biz, we didn't hear back or even see pre-orders...til now when the suckers just started showing up in stores! Our excellent customizer buddy Hunter Knight Customs got the drop on a Florida Walmart when a fresh case arrived...which is most likely the only way any of us are going to see a full set of these suckers as Hulk is 1 per case...as is Loki, Hawkeye and Thor. Only Iron Man and Captain America are two per case, so unless Walmart does something crazy like operate as if they want our money and stock these WALMART EXCLUSIVE figures in force, those of us in scalper rich environments will either have to hunt harder or just pretend they don't exist! Sadder still, there is no Black Widow for the set and Hasbro has announced no plans to make one.

HKC says these went for 15.96 a pop, causing him to spring for all but Iron Man, as he was a simple repaint. It took him a trip to 5 different stores to nab this set. He also remarked on favoring the recently purchased Marvel Select Avengers Movie Hulk over the smaller, less detailed Hasbro one and says it is the one moment where "art overpowers points of articulation" for him. I have very similar taste and often try to buy figures within my established scale (6 inch Marvel Legends sized), but when it comes to Hulk, bigger is always better, so Marvel Select wins immediately. Marvel Select is in a 7 inch scale, so only Hulk and the upcoming Chitauri Warrior (aka Loki's Army) should look right with these Hasbro figures.

Notes on the line:

• This is the only way to get a 6 inch helmetless Loki figure.
• Thor was shown at NYCC with no sleeves. This one seems to be a completely different figure.
• Iron Man in this line is NOT a Mark 7 like in the movie.
• Nick Fury in the images was from the last wave of 6 inch exclusives which included movie versions of Thor, Captain America and a comic version Loki.

HKC also has an excellent Agent Coulson Marvel Universe scaled (which makes him perfect for your 4 inch Avengers) custom figure up for sale on Ebay!

Toy Fair 2012 : Mighty Marvel Action Figures

We can already call 2012 a golden age for Marvel Comics action figures! Not since Toy Biz had lines on the pegs for Fantastic Four, X-Men, Generation X, Ghost Rider, Iron Man and Hulk have we seen so much plastic awesomeness available for purchase all at once. This year, Diamond Select dishes out a heaping helping of Marvel Select action figures from Marvel movies and comics alike while Hasbro continues their expansive Marvel Universe line alongside Avengers and Amazing Spider-Man movie figures and the triumphant return of 6 inch MARVEL LEGENDS!! Here's a look at what you'll be blowing all your paychecks on...

Let's go from largest to smallest...

Marvel Select continue their action figure domination of comic shops. Honestly, is there anything more impressive hanging in your local geekatorium? On tap for 2012 are...

Toy Fair 2012 : Marvel Select Ultron

YES!! Someone at Diamond Select looked at the numbers and said hmm..we are making a lot more money on those figures that seem to be in scale with Marvel Legends. LET'S MAKE MORE!! At so it was, that Marvel Select did shower the earth with the likes of Colossus, Juggernaut, Hulk, Abomination, Thanos...and now..~tears up~..finally..a classic Ultron.

Sure, those ball hips are ugly as sin, but beggars can't be choosers.

MTVGEEK got the exclusive today and posted these bits...

A Diamond Select Release! Designed and Sculpted by Gentle Giant! DST has made plenty of Avengers in its Marvel Select line, but they've never made the team's greatest foe: Ultron! The unkillable robotic creation of Dr. Hank Pym, Ultron is depicted in his classic form, in the same 7-inch scale as the rest of the Marvel Select line. Plus, he comes with a detailed display base depicting the fallen forms of Ant-Man and the Wasp, and features multiple points of articulation, for a variety of humanity-despising poses. Ultron comes in oversized collector packaging, and is only available on the specialty market!

Figure SRP: $21.99

Toy Fair 2012 : More Avengers Movie Figures from Hasbro & Diamond Select

We've shown you plenty of Hasbro's Avengers movie products, and we hear a ton of them are hitting stores as we speak, but one character has been sorely missed in the pre-order lineups. BLACK WIDOW! The newest pre-order listings now have Black Widow on the board for The Avengers Movie Wave 3, alongside a "Villain Soldier" action figure. I'll be the first one to say those look like SHIELD soldiers escorting Loki to a holding cell, so don't shoot the messenger. This pic is straight off a retailer website, so while the image may be wrong, the listing is right. There is also a Cosmic Spear Loki in wave 2.

On a related note, we learned that there will be 7 figures in Hasbro's relaunched Marvel Legends 6 inch Action Figures Wave 3, but no names have been dropped yet.

We'll also take this opportunity to show you Marvel Select's brilliant Hawkeye and Hulk action figures. Here's the Marvel Select Avengers Movie action figure lineup...

Captain America (WWII outfit): Available now
Thor (Thor movie outfit): Available now
Loki (Thor movie outfit): Available now
Hulk: Coming in April
Iron Man Mark VI (Iron Man 2 movie re-issue): Coming in April
Hawkeye: Coming in May
Mystery Foe: Coming in May

Hawkeye : this 7-inch-scale Marvel Select figure comes with his trademark bow and arrows, and will look perfect alongside your other Select Avengers. Plus, he features 16 points of articulation, for a variety of action poses! Not shown is Hawkeye's detailed display base -- it combines with the base of our mystery movie villain figure to create a scene from the movie, and everything comes in oversized collector packaging

Hulk : Standing 8.25 inches tall, he stands a good inch taller than the rest of the movie-based Avengers DST has made, and features 16 points of articulation for a full range of smashing.

Diamond Select (parent of the sub-named Marvel Select) will also be cranking out Avengers Movie Minimates to add to their previously released Captain America, Thor and Iron Man movie lines. Hitting stores this spring will be two assortments of figures, one exclusively available at Toys "R" Us stores and on toysrus.com, and another only at comic book shops and specialty stores. Look for them in late April/early May. The figure lineups include...

Marvel Minimates - The Avengers Movie (Toys "R" Us/toysrus.com)
- Captain America & Thor
- Iron Man MK7 & Hulk
- Hawkeye & Black Widow (exclusive)
- Loki & Nick Fury (exclusive)

Marvel Minimates Wave 45 (Specialty stores/comic shops)
- Captain America & Thor
- Iron Man MK7 & Hulk
- REDACTED & REDACTED (exclusive)
- Maria Hill & REDACTED (short-packed exclusive)

Toy Fair 2012: Marvel Select Avengers Hawkeye

As is the trend as we get closer to the big show (ie; Toy Fair), the biggest scoops get given to humungous websites that have very little to do with action figures. (but I'm not bitter...much.) Ain't It Cool got this first look at Diamond Select's Marvel Select Avengers Movie Hawkeye, which I stumbled upon by accident through a narcissistic search for websites running our Batman news which lead me to an Italian website. Gotta love it.

While I'll say this is the best Hawkeye figure I've seen to date...and go so far as to say Marvel Select blew the doors off of Hasbro's version, I still don't think the likeness is there. I'd also like to make a snarky MEH face at the costume which is completely uninspired, gives ZERO nods to the classic comic look and just smacks of real world X-Menified leathers. Blaa. While I didn't expect them to deck him out in purple tights, I was just hoping for...well...more. Oh well. That said, more kudos to Marvel Select for packing this dude with articulation..something the line is not really known for! Now the final question will be how Hawkeye looks next to Widow, Cap, Thor, etc. Marvel Select is also not known for putting their figures in scale with each other, deferring to a 7 inch standard save for those extra big monsters.

Ain't It Cool reports we'll see the Gentle Giant crafted Hawkeye this May, sporting 16 points of articulation, his bow and arrows and a detailed base that locks into the base of the Mystery Villain of the Avengers film. Now we wait for Hulk to pop up on E or some such movie site. (yes totally bitter.)

Disney Stores Delivering Your Classic Marvel Dreams

Be aware! The pegs of your local plasticashery have been polluted with 3 and 3 quarter super citizens in ever increasing numbers. Where does that leave a collector of the most awesome scale on the planet...namely 6 inch action figures??!! TWISTING IN THE WIND I TELLS YA!! To be honest, Mattel is dishing out the 6 inch love for all the DC comic hero fans, while Hasbro is taking their time and seemingly experimenting with price points for their incoming Marvel Legends relaunch. Who will save us until 2012? Mother F'n Diamond Select, that's who. Flush with success after releasing the most amazing Juggernaut action figure ever created, the east coast boys have now teamed up with a little company called Disney to bring even more mighty Marvels to your shelf space.

Disney Store Marvel Select Exclusive figures will land this August! Classic Hawkeye and Classic Thor will start things off, with Classic Captain America and Classic Black Widow following in September. Diamond Select says "Hawkeye comes with the Wasp (perched on an arrow) and a detailed base featuring the battered remains of Ultron." Readers will note that Marvel Select is in a 7 inch scale, making folks like Juggernaut and Thor in scale with your Marvel Legends collection while someone like Black Widow looks amazonian. I expect collectors will be excited for a new classic Thor figure, since Marvel Select were also the guys to make my favorite Thor action figure wearing his current comic costume. I also expect some buzz around the amazing base Hawkeye is standing on! That said, I'm most curious about the scale of these new figures (in relation to each other), as it would be a sad sad day if we find Black Widow to be the same height as Thor, so keep watching Idleblog for more info as it trickles out.

UPDATED! : Marvel Select Movie Thor and Loki Revealed

As we reported only last week, Marvel Select (via Diamond Select) have Thor and Loki figures on the way based on their movie appearances with likenesses of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. Each figure comes with a base depicting the rainbow bridge to Asgard. Get both figures and the pieces go together to form a diorama! Newbs to the line should note that Marvel Select creates their figures in a 7 inch format, making them slightly taller than Marvel Legends 6 inch figures..which isn't such a bad thing for Asgardians. Diamond revealed today that Thor comes with 16 points of articulation...and if I may add, an awesome likeness of Chris Hemsworth! Put this one on your "must buy" list if you are a fan of Marvel Movies, because..let's face it..it sure does put what Hasbro is offering to shame. Look for him February of 2011.

UPDATE: One of our readers from across the waters dropped Loki on us!

POOLWATCH: Diamond Select Deadpool Ready to Drop

Just as a brand new Hasbro Marvel Legends Deadpool is hitting Toys R Us stores across the planet, Diamond Select steps up to give them a run for their money with a Marvel Select Deadpool! The 7 inch select figure comes with 2 sais, 2 handguns, 2 swords, one big ass automatic weapon and a busted up wall diorama base. There's also a variant unmasked version of the figure. Deadpool should be showing up in your local comic shops any day now along side...

MAGNETO!! Also 7 inch in scale, as are all the Marvel Select figures, also has a variant figure with his helmet off (the better of the two in my opinion) and a display base allowing Magneto to stand upon the rubble of Xavier Institute and a certain metal member of the X-Men in particular!

Get yo Marvel on.

Marvel Select Teasing Thor and Loki Figures

Since Hasbro has resigned themselves to tiny little kiddie toys for the new Marvel movies, we've got to look elsewhere for figures that will be in scale with the Marvel Legends we love. DIAMOND SELECT to the rescue! In the December issue of previews, they've got listings for both Thor and Loki figures, based on their movie appearances with likenesses of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. Until we hear otherwise at the 2011 International Toy Fair, these may also be the only mid-range scaled figures to buy. To be sure, Hasbro has to be planning a 10 to 12 inch Thor for release with the film, so if you've got to have a super sized Hemsworth, he'll be coming fo sho.

Also on tap for the December Previews is Marvel Minimates series 38, based on the Shadowland comic book story line. This wave features Daredevil in his costume from the book, Spider-Man, Iron Fist, White Tiger, Hand Soldier, and a limited Classic White Tiger variant.
