MONDO Masters of the Universe: Panthor 1:6 Scale Figure

MONDO Masters of the Universe Panthor 6th Scale Figure 01

At last … Skeletor’s ride or die Panthor is ready to square off with He-Man and Battle Cat for Eternia supremacy!

To concoct our ultimate 1/6 scale Panthor, you know we had to bring back the Battle Cat crew, including concept designer and MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE scholar Emiliano Santalucia, Eternia’s finest sculptors Tommy Hodges and Matthew Black and painter Mark Bristow, official MOTU packaging artist Florian Bertmer, and of course, photographer and keeper of Snake Mountain Raúl Barrero.

LAST DAY to Get Your Castle Grayskull!

Let's face it...the complaint is a whiny one. Oh noooo...my Castle Grayskull is too small! I can't get my He-Man through the door properly without making him duck like when I go over to Grandpa's house and have to be sure not to take my head off as I descend into the cellar because obviously folks were shorter back then?? To be a respectable scale, your tiny, childlike frame would have to drag out a 2 foot plus playset every time you wanted to make pew pew noises at Hordak and the Snake Men, risking permanent injury when that construct falls over, crushing your legs to pulp. Now you're in a wheelchair for life...but you got that Castle Grayskull problem licked!! Who would create such an insane piece of plastic?  MATTYCOLLECTOR WOULD!!

Since Mattel is filled with folks who hear your mews of longing and often, share them, they set out to make your dreams come true....and today is the LAST DAY to make it happen.  Here's the skinny...

He-Man Gets a Castle in 2013...Maybe...

ActionFigureInsider is soaking up the Masters of the Universe fandom at PowerCon this weekend and have just unleashed all the info from the Mattel panel. No doubt, the most exciting tidbit for casual and die hard fans alike is the possibility of a Castle Grayskull specifically for the Masters of the Universe Classics Action Figure line in 2013! AFInsider says the project will be a metered pre-sale, which means that after a picture is shown at New York Comic Con this October, you'll be able to earmark the ultimate in Eternian real estate for a mere $200...IF the meter on the pre-order hits the number needed for production. Only then will the piece be sculpted (from the original Mark Taylor design...though we doubt it will look exactly like his concept sketch to the left, as it would alienate fans of the cartoon and more modern designs) and on the fast track for a Fall 2013 release. It is obvious Mattel is taking no chances.

He-Man Wobbles & Power Rangers Go POP!

Funko are at it again. We're just going to start calling them the Vinyl Borg, because they assimilate all your pop culture loves. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!! Alf..we are looking at you. Today, Funko drops us a line that they are ready to reveal the first of their long awaited Masters of the Universe pieces and surprised us with some killer Power Rangers POP! Vinyl to boot!

First up, we have the Masters of the Universe. He-man and his medieval and yet often high tech defenders of Eternia square off against the forces of Skeletor and his monstrous army of thugs. For years we've gotten a giant helping of action figures, vehicles and cartoons to further the mythos, so it seemed a no-brainer to immortalize the characters further in little plastic statues with bobbley heads. In past months, we were given teases that the Masters would join the ranks of the POP! Vinyl universe as well, and this still seems like a sure thing. There are a lot of licenses that get treatment in both lines, so hang tight for that announcement! For now, take a look at the Wacky Wobblers with He-Man, Orko, Skeletor and Beast Man, all available December 20th.

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 : Action Figure Xpress Exclusives

AFX is an old friend of Action-Figure.com (my old haunt) and so we always keep tabs on what Pat and the gang are up to. Being a collectibles retailer (as well as producer), a bunch of their exclusives will be things you'll remember from Diamond Comics and Diamond Select's lineups. Having more than one location to purchase may come in handy with something like the Walking Dead Minimates set!

Once again, Action Figure Xpress (Booth 3345) will be at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con International in full force with some incredible exclusives and guests! Comic-con is that special event for fans to get a sneak peek at upcoming products and also to interact with designers, manufacturers, artists, celebrities, and more.

New Masters of the Universe and the Fate of the Ghostbusters

POWERCON was this past weekend, celebrating all things Masters of the Universe and Thundercats in the LA area for all 16 of you rabid fans out there. WOO! (I kid) Mattel took the opportunity to show off some sexy new medieval/futuristic warriors and released pics of them today. Here's the skinny...

"Traveling Convention" Figure: Temple of Darkness Sorceress®
This is an all-white redeco of the Sorceress, as she was shown in the vintage mini-comic "The Temple of Darkness." She'll arrive with her white magic staff and new Orb of Grayskull™ stand (the Orb itself was included with our King Grayskull® figure in fall 2010). This Sorceress will be our 2012 "traveling convention" figure, much like the three JLU 3-packs are for 2011. We haven't locked down the itinerary yet, but we expect NYCC and Power-Con to be two of the shows we attend in 2012. Any unsold units of this special redeco of the Sorceress will be sold on Mattycollector.com in late fall 2012, but you can get her first at Mattel's traveling shows! (P.S. She will not be sold at SDCC or in any subscription.)

April Club Eternia® Figure: Stinkor®
It's the henchman with stench, man! This servant to Skeletor® really smells just like the vintage toy (think patchouli with a little extra sumpin' sumpin'). Comes with two interchangeable heads, backpack, shield and all-new blaster. Included with 2012 Club Eternia subscriptions.

April Club Eternia® "Oversized" Beast: Griffin
Take to the skies with the evil winged steed of Beast Man® and reign terror throughout the light hemisphere! Based on the Battle Cat® buck (new head, rear legs, neck, saddle, head and tail), this new beast is the perfect choice for sending wicked warriors soaring into battle. Included with 2012 Club Eternia subscriptions.

April Non-Subscription Item: Snake Mountain® Stands
Can't stand your evil warriors? Here's your chance to get them in fighting position with this great non-sub item featuring reconfigurable base and rock spikes.

May Club Eternia® Figure: Slush Head™
The evil goon squad member from the Tri Solar System enters the MattyCollector.com universe at long last. Another great mutant warrior to add to your collection, Slush Head comes complete with arm tentacles, axe and removable head dome you can really fill up with water! Included with 2012 Club Eternia subscriptions.

May MOTU 30th Anniversary Series Figure: The Mighty Spector
Created by our very own Toy Guru, Scott Neitlich, from a childhood sketch, The Mighty Spector is the heroic master of Time Travel. He’s an undercover agent ready to serve the royal household any time, any place. Comes complete with blaster and swapable laser whip/knife (not shown). Included with 2012 MOTU 30th Anniversary Series subscriptions.

Mattel has announced that figures purchased day of sale (AKA rotten dirty cherry pickers) will cost more than figures included with subscription purchases to Club Eternia and the 30th Anniversary series. Many fans see this as a shake down as prices climb on figures already fairly expensive ($20 a pop plush shipping!) and though the Griffin will be snapped up eagerly alongside Stinkor, I'm not sure these announcements are going to do much to boost those subscription sign ups. For me personally, I've got most of the characters I was hoping would be released with my subscription purchase this year and don't feel a great urge to own all of She-Ra's Skittle colored pals (though I will be buying Swift Wind. Don't judge. THE LADY HAS TO RIDE SOMETHING!!) or a guy with a camera for a head (his name is Fearless Photog. I shit you not.) I'll admit Demon-Man and Draego-Man are pretty sweet, but with no retro context to pull on my heart strings, the bump up in price may force me to decide I don't need them for my collection.

Speaking of subscriptions, I also did not re-up my sub for Ghostbusters this year, even though it is one of my favorite movies. I had expectations of 6 inch action figures of the key ghosts and demons from both films in this line, but Mattel continually releases the Ghostbusters themselves with their somewhat annoying smiley faces atop different bodies and swapping in accessories that should probably be in every release (like a proton stream, ya know?!) Ghosts have been packed in with these figures, but to cut costs they are undersized and underwhelming. Many fans may share my thinking, as numbers on this coming year's subscription have forced a cancellation.

Ghostbusters™ Fans,

You know how much love the Matty team has for Ghostbusters, and although we were ready to support a subscription in 2012, sales were lower than we expected. We regret to announce that we have to cancel the 2012 Club Ecto-1 subscription. All 2012 orders will be promptly refunded. If you purchased a 2012 subscription, you should see the refund in your account within 5-7 business days of your refund being processed, depending on your bank. All 2011 subscriptions will continue to ship as scheduled.

Like you, we're disappointed that the subscription will be going away for 2012, but to show our appreciation for you fans who stepped up and bought a 2012 subscription, we're working on a "thank you" just for you. Stay tuned as we'll have something special coming for you in appreciation for your support.

Please know that the Ghostbusters line isn't over! To do right by all Ghostbusters fans, we're still moving forward with the previously announced figures for 2012 (Ready to Believe You Peter with Taxi Cab Ghost, The Rookie, Dana as Zuul) and a fourth figure in the fall, to be announced. These figures will be available at our regular monthly sales. Like our other lines, costs have risen since the brand was launched and the price of the 6" figures will increase to $22 each.

Now on to brighter news. In celebration of the boo bustin' boys' favorite time of the year, we're going to re-release some of your favorite figures during a special Ghostbusters Halloween sale. The sale will run from 10/17 through 10/31, and it's the perfect time to fill in any missing characters in your collection and stock up on favorites. But wait… yes, there's more! Not only will we have a great selection of characters, the October 17 sale will also bring the long-awaited Ghost Trap prop, plus the return of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!

Again, on behalf of the team, thanks for being a loyal fan. Long live the Ghostbusters!

—Matty

Honestly, Mattel would be a lot easier to love if their mascot wasn't a giant head that looks like it is mocking you for buying their toys.

Note: MOTU pics from the Mattycollector Facebook, credit to whom ever they might have been re-posted from, as is the nature of the FBooks.

He-Man Turns 30

In 2012 that is. He'd get all weepy if I forced his milestone birthday a year early. After all, his best friend is a tweaked out green tiger, he has no ladies in his life and his tan is often uneven. Will he give King Randor grandchildren? Not anyyytime soon, me thinks. He'll just keep lifting weights to push his loneliness deep down inside and pound on Skeletor and his minions for stress relief. It's an empty life really.

So how about that press release about the 30th anniversary of Masters of the Universe, hmmmm?

Mattel, the worldwide leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of toys and family products, and Classic Media, a global media company with a portfolio of some of the world’s leading family entertainment brands, will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Masters of the Universe with the launch of a consumer products program for the iconic franchise that will include 30th anniversary apparel from Changes, costumes from Disguise, and a special 30th anniversary edition DVD box set from Mill Creek Entertainment. Publishing partners will be announced shortly.

The award-winning Masters of the Universe Classics toy line, featuring updated sculpts of vintage Mattel toys, will also continue throughout 2012 only on Mattycollector.com. The 2012 annual subscription will go on sale the week of San Diego Comic-Con starting July 22. Additionally, the 30th anniversary program will include interaction with the collector community through “FAN-atic” activities at Comic-Con International: San Diego and New York Comic Con.

“Masters of the Universe is an iconic franchise with a legacy that’s deeply rooted in fantastical storytelling which translates naturally to play experiences and products kids of all ages love,” says Michael Riley, VP, Franchise Development, Mattel. “In 2012 the property celebrates its milestone 30th anniversary allowing us to create a robust synergistic program that offers something for all fans.”

Changes will develop T-shirts, sweatshirts, thermals, track jackets, and fashion tops for men, women, and juniors. The company will also launch an accessory line based on the Masters of the Universe brand including wristbands, belts and belt buckles, key chains, and costume jewelry. In addition, Disguise is launching a line of Halloween costumes and accessories, including Skeletor, He-Man, and She-Ra adult costumes that will be available exclusively at Buy Costumes (http://www.buycostumes.com/) for the 2011 Halloween season.

As part of the celebration, Classic Media will introduce a brand-new comprehensive Masters of the Universe style guide featuring retro artwork, all-new modern artist renderings, as well as a special 30th anniversary logo, all of which will be available this summer. Classic Media and Mill Creek Entertainment together will also release the complete series of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in a special 30th anniversary edition DVD set. The collection will be available in fall 2012 and will include special bonus material along with other memorable content developed especially with collectors in mind.

Since the debut of Mattel’s toy line in 1982, Masters of the Universe has become a hugely successful franchise that continues to have a strong cult following to this day. In 1983, Filmation debuted the original television series, introducing fans nationwide to “By the power of Grayskull…I have the power!,” and in 1987 Warner Bros. released the first film based on the series, Master of the Universe, starring Dolph Lundgren, worldwide. In 1990, animated television series The New Adventures of He-Man launched, and in 2002, Cartoon Network premiered the most recent series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

SDCC: Mattel's San Diego Comic Con Exclusives

The weather is heating up, so its time to start compiling your lists to see how in debt you will be after San Diego Comic Con this year! YAY credit cards!! After NECA's first strike, Mattel jumps into the ring with an exclusive showing on G4, revealing half their goodies and teasing the rest in quick, nose bleed rendering pans across the rest. Luckily, we live in the future where I can do screen caps and bring back the eye candy and the info, as best I can manage from blurry source material. Here's the rundown so far:

Mo-Larr: Dentist of Eternia Back On Sale

He's MO-LARR!! The most powerful, and successful dentist in Eternia, 3 time Juggers champion and husband to Cindy Crawford was given the spotlight on an episode of Robot Chicken in which he brought hygenic justice to Snake Mountain. Now, Mattel is ready to retire his San Diego Comic Con exclusive 2 pack boxed set, so they are giving you one last shot and owning a piece of Eternian dental history.

Meet Mo-Larr, defender of tooth, justice, and the Eternian way! Mo-Larr was featured in the famous (infamous?) episode featured on the DVD release of Robot Chicken Season 2 where he chased down Skeletor® and relieved him of an impacted wisdom tooth, sans numbing agent. Skeletor® features a new head with missing tooth, Havok Staff, Power Sword®, and Half Power Sword®. Mo-Larr, Eternian Dentist, comes with five assorted dental tools, including @#%## drill and floss.
