Packed with a variety of products spanning numerous licenses, McFarlane Toys came into New York Toy Fair with a full arsenal of products that fans and collectors won’t have to wait too long to enjoy.
Block Puzzle Figures
One of the more surprising crowd-pleasers was the debut of a new line of transforming cube figures aimed at collectors of all ages. These Interlocking block-style collectibles are designed as buildable display pieces (similar to puzzle cubes). Using licenses like DC, Harry Potter, Powerpuff Girls, and Poppy Playtime, these figures feature a clean, friendly design that makes them great desk toys and easy impulse buys. The clear standout at the booth was Krypto, who drew a lot of attention and seemed destined to become a fan favorite.
DC Universe
Speaking of DC, Batman: The Animated Series is receiving a new look thanks to a new Q-Figs blind box format. Q-Figs are small, non-articulated (or minimally articulated) PVC figures known for dynamic, storytelling poses. Collectors will be able to hunt for standard releases as well as chase variants, including silver metallic and gold Batman figures. For those who would rather skip the gamble, McFarlane is offering a deluxe option for a small price bump that lets fans buy the exact figure they want and includes an environmental display base. Initial reveals include characters from DC Comics (Batman, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, Penguin, Bane, Man-Bat), Marvel (Hulk, Wolverine, Spider-Man), and Spawn.
DC’s Build-A-Figure collection is continuously growing with a newly revealed BTAS wave that includes Batman, Zatanna, Mad Hatter, and Joker. Together, these figures allow collectors to build Clock King, a character who never got released back in the DC Direct days.
The Super Friends line is pushing further into nostalgic territory with a more episodic, story-driven approach. McFarlane confirmed that the Evil Justice League concept is continuing, and on display were the villainous Black Manta, Judge Luthor, and Evil Aquaman, with the latter sporting his classic eye patch, a deep-cut detail that will undoubtedly resonate with fans of the old cartoon series. This wave will also include an updated version of Batman and the first appearance of Robin.
In even bigger news, the Super Powers line is officially continuing as an exclusive Entertainment Earth shared partnership, with 20 figures planned to be released beginning this summer and lasting throughout the year. Recent reports have also surfaced claiming that the company has only lost its toy licensing rights to DC’s six and seven-inch figures, meaning the future of Super Powers is bright and promising. According to representatives, McFarlane has also acknowledged fan requests by teasing that more female characters and villains are on the way. Here’s hoping we get to see classic versions of Supergirl, Batgirl, Cheetah, Scarecrow, Gorilla Grodd, and Doomsday added to the line.
On the DC Multiverse front, several high-profile pieces drew attention, including Theatrical Editions of Bane, complete with Tom Hardy’s likeness from The Dark Knight Rises, and Heath Ledger’s Joker from the Dark Knight movie, designed for collectors who missed the original release, now upgraded with more paint applications, more accessories, and more weapons, including the rocket launcher he used to assault Harvey Dent’s prisoner transfer vehicle. A Batman 1989 Joker Multiverse figure is also confirmed for an upcoming wave, which will undoubtedly capture Jack Nicholson’s sinister persona. Also revealed was the Joker from the Batman manga adaptation, looking as maniacal and unhinged as fans would hope. Where can we get those wonderful toys?
But the biggest surprise reveal was seeing Brandon Routh’s Superman join the Multiverse line, based on his Superman Returns appearance, with a film-accurate suit sculpt. This is the first McFarlane figure based on Routh’s portrayal of the Man of Steel and a major fan-requested addition, but don’t expect to see a Kevin Spacey version of Lex Luthor in the near future.
DC’s Page Punchers line also continues to grow with new figures like Flash, Hal Jordan, and Superman, while platinum variants such as Jay Garrick and Jessica Cruz give toy hunters something extra to chase. As always, each figure will come with the comic book that represents that character’s depiction.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans have something fun on the horizon as well, with the next wave based on Turtles in Time. In this wave, the Turtles will be decked out in samurai armor, continuing McFarlane’s trend of pulling inspiration from both classic games and comics.
Spawn
Spawn, unsurprisingly, remains a major focus. New seven-inch figures include Curse of Spawn, Wings of Redemption, and a fully articulated Nightmare Spawn with a new sculpt and updated colors.
On top of that, McFarlane is introducing constructible Spawn mini figures in blind bags, complete with soft goods capes, full accessories, and chase variants that are designed to be fun to collect and trade.
Image Comics Founders Elite Edition
Separately, McFarlane Toys is launching an Image Comics Founders Elite Edition line of action figures. Announced by Todd McFarlane himself at this year’s New York Comic Con, Image Comics fans have a lot to look forward to, with a new wave bringing in Savage Dragon, ShadowHawk, and Spawn, all packed with alternate heads, hands, weapons, and accessories. These figures are based on characters created by the original Image Comics Founders. In the future, comic-style versions of Witchblade, Spartan from WildC.A.T.S., and Prophet from the Youngblood series are planned for release. Each figure will also come with a collectible art card.
Marvel
Marvel had a strong showing as well, led by a striking new Doctor Doom statue in all his glory, wearing a white outfit with a wired cape and menacing look, reminiscent of how he’s portrayed as the God Emperor. A classic green version of Doom is already planned for later this year.
Also announced was the next wave of Marvel Rivals, featuring fan favorite Jeff the Land Shark, Magneto, Captain America, Thor, and Doctor Strange.
These characters are also getting blind bag collectible versions with chase variants, clearly aimed at being easy-to-collect, trade-friendly pieces that kids and fans can clip onto backpacks or display at their desks.
Fallout
Fallout continues to be a growing presence for McFarlane, especially with the success of the TV series. New vinyl blind bag figures based on the show were on display, including rare gold versions and translucent glow-in-the-dark variants that were confirmed right on the show floor. On the high-end side, a new Elite Edition T-60 repaint in a bold pink design was shown, reinforcing McFarlane’s plan to keep timing Fallout releases alongside new seasons and game content.
PlayStation Possibilities
The company’s new partnership with PlayStation is also starting to take shape, beginning with Helldivers, a popular cooperative third-person shooter series. Two versions of figures are planned for release, featuring an Elite Edition packed with accessories, heavy weapons, and a wired soft goods cape, and a more affordable Collector Edition with fewer accessories but the same sculpt and overall paint quality.
Warhammer is also receiving the same premium treatment with a new Elite Edition figure that features increased paint detail, soft goods, and plenty of accessories, along with an unpainted version for creative customizers who want to put their own imagination to work.
Having acquired PlayStation’s rights, it’s only a matter of time before we see figures, statues, and other collectibles featuring characters from popular video game franchises like God of War, Uncharted, Twisted Metal, Red Dead Redemption, and The Last of Us.
Hellboy
Two new comic-series Hellboy figures were revealed at the McFarlane booth. These 7-inch-scale figures faithfully recreate Hellboy’s look from the comics. One version features his classic brown trench coat and two revolvers, while the other is shirtless and sports the fiery, horned crown from the Anung-un-Rama storyline. Both figures include interchangeable hands, weapons, and a variety of other devilish accessories.
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat fans weren’t forgotten either, with a new wave of classic characters featuring Jade, Ermac, Noob Saibot, and Johnny Cage. McFarlane is also continuing its two-pack releases with Liu Kang vs. Reptile, which includes extra heads, alternate color schemes, and plenty of weapons to create your own brutal fatalities.
Additionally, McFarlane will be adding fun variants to its line, including ice-themed translucent figures that fit into the franchise’s visual flair.
Anime
The company remains committed to creating more figures and statues for popular anime franchises, continuing with Bleach and Demon Slayer, while also announcing Dan Da Dan as a new addition. While premium resin statues are still part of the lineup, McFarlane made it clear that the focus is shifting more toward seven-inch action figures going forward.
Poppy Playtime
McFarlane also officially unveiled the first wave of action figures from their highly-anticipated Poppy Playtime line. These figures, inspired by the hit horror computer game franchise, represent some of the most iconic and terrifying core characters from across multiple chapters of the series.
Each 7-inch scale figure features highly detailed sculpting, premium paint deco, interconnecting display bases, and an impressive articulation system that combines traditional ball joints with wired, bendable limbs for specialized posing, giving collectors multiple display options. These flexible figures will also be available in a smaller 4.5-inch scale, while franchise mascot, Huggy Wuggy, will receive a larger 12-inch fully bendable version.
The wave 1 lineup of 7-inch figures includes Huggy Wuggy, in both his standard form and ruined variant, complete with grim detailing that reflects his post-chapter encounters, giving him a tattered, battle-worn look. Also included in the wave are main antagonists Killy Willy, with his signature jagged blades and dark, eerie grin, and The Doctor, otherwise known as Harley Sawyer, with four extra hands, four interchangeable face effects, and a soft goods cloak, letting collectors display Sawyer in normal or horrific expressions which are reflective of his transformation in the game. There will also be a two-pack of Kissy Missy with Poppy that pairs Huggy’s pink counterpart with the eponymous doll of the series.
In addition, McFarlane will also be releasing a blind box series of Poppy Playtime Critters, which includes Baba Chops, Poe, Touille, and Picky Piggy, among others, expanding the world of the game into collectible mini-form.
