Scientist Killjoys Teach The Realities of Super Powers

Folks like to interject reality into comic book movies to make the situations and characters more relatable. It worked..for a little while..til those situations and characters got long winded and reality proved to be a major downer. It's how we got a Bane who sounds like the cross between a snarky Bond bad guy and the old prospector in an ancient western. Let's face it...if we wanted reality in our comic books...we wouldn't be reading about buff guys and buxom gals in tights, would we? Now, TED-Ed looks to squash our dreams of waking up one sunny day with super speed, flight, invisibility, strength, immortality, and body mass ( YOU dream of body mass??!!) with a series of videos exploring the realities one wold face if granted these powers. Are they complete creeps for destroying our childhood dreams? Indeed. Are the videos highly educational? Yes. Very interesting if you are nerd inclined, as I am. Hit the jump and take a look...and try not to sob out loud...

A Closer Look at Jazwares World War Z Zombie Figures

Zombies and geeks tend to go together like fat kids and fudge brownies, so it comes as no surprise that Jazwares World War Z line has been one folks have been anticipating since the announcement of their slow, lumbering approach at Toy Fair 2013. With the release of the pre-order images on Entertainment Earth, that anticipation....well...suffice to say it has subsided a bit. Do the actual figures in person redeem the line? Let's find out with a closer look at the Civilian Zombie and the Special Forces Zombie...

The Live Action Gatchaman Trailer

My heart was crushed when the animated Gatchaman trailer didn't lead to a full length movie. SO SAD!! Now, the movie making dimension hopes to make it up to me with a live action film. I'm skeptical. I don't want my heart broken again....but this trailer is pretty awesome. Should I open my soul once more? Do I risk further hurt and possibly learn to love again??!! Life is hard.

Jazwares World War Z Action Figures

When we last talked about World War Z action figures, it was just a list of possible characters sent to retailers for pre-orders...or to gauge interest at Toy Fair time...or for whatever reason companies send out massive lists of product no one is supposed to know about. While at Toy Fair, there was, indeed, a line of WWZ action figures at the Jazwares booth, but it was under wraps and all we could do was pet the curtain. Today, Entertainment Earth launched pre-orders on the eve of the film's release, and after some begging and pleading, we've got some excellent pictures of the initial release.

Robert Downey Jr Signed for Avengers 2 and 3

There were plenty of rumors surrounding this news. My favorite, and most plausible, was that Robert Downey Jr was a bit disgusted with the pay his Avengers co-stars were getting, so he used a re-negotiation to get them a better rate. Whatever the truth behind the story may me, one thing is for certain today. ROBERT DOWNEY JR IS IRON MAN!! least for 2 more movies. reports...

Agent Coulson Meets Lil Agent Coulson

It never fails. Show an action figure to the person the toy is made after and a look of childlike glee spreads across their face. did fail once. I was at the press junket for The Amazing Spider-Man and was able to bring Andrew Garfield together with his first ever likeness on an action figure in the Diamond Select Minimates line. He seemed...less than enthusiastic. Never the less, we expected no small amount of ridiculous cheer from Clark Gregg as he held his Hot Toys 12 inch action figure for the first time. Hot Toys sent over some words on the meeting...

The Walking Dead Minimates Come to Un-Life

The third series of The Walking Dead Minimates hits comic shops and specialty stores on June 12th, and has already been spotted at Toys "R" Us. To commemorate the occasion, Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum have put together a short film starring all of the TWD Minimates to date, and it's not for the faint of heart!

With photography and editing by Alex Kropinak (Marvel's What the...?!), a voiceover by Chris Ward (the band Acorns to Oaks) and music by Matt Takacs, the film draws on Rick's famous speech from the prison arc of the groundbreaking comic book, setting it to some of the most horrifying Minimates images you have ever seen. Check out the film below, and look for Series 3 in your local store!

Ultimate Spider-Man Marvel Team Up Clips

Love it or leave it, it seems the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future. His world is only a couple of steps away from the Mighty Marvel Cinematic Universe, and so, you must suck up all those moments where Spidey turns into a fat lil Spidey and hide your tears over the loss of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I'M STILL NOT GETTING OVER THIS!!! Today, Marvel sends over a couple of clips from upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man episodes, and while he is perpetually teamed up with his hodgepodge teen super team, these clips show your favorite wall crawler going back to back with members of the Marvel elite. MARVEL TEAM UP!

Transformers: The Covenant of Primus

Further exploration into the world of little mysterious black books from BookExpo America 2013! First,  we took a look at Star Wars: The Bounty Hunter Code, featuring a sort of study manual from your favorite Mandalorian, Boba Fett! This time, we'll be delving into the world of the Transformers. I've always appreciated when writers provide for a rich back story, even as an add on to material that has been around for years, so long as it follows a logical path in reference to what we know already. The Covenant of Primus looks to do just that. Will this book reveal anything the big bot die-hards don't already know? Let's find out.

The main hero Jaeger receives the deluxe 18" treatment including enhanced sculptural details, attachable chain-sword weapon, and lights on the chest and head.

Stands an impressive 18" tall with articulated neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. Gipsy is very
poseable and includes intricate paint detail to replicate all the battle damage and wear and tear seen on screen. The over 8" long chain-sword weapon attaches at the forearms and can be wielded on the right or left side.

Look for the 18 inch Gipsy Danger this September! CLICK HERE to pre-order!

Star Wars: The Bounty Hunter Code: From the Files of Boba Fett

Deep in the darkest corners of BookExpo America...far from the steely gaze of your average geek on the hunt, there sat a little black book...plain..unassuming..thin. It was the word Bounty Hunter that caught my eye, and now I'm glad it did! You see, last year at BEA, there was a big display for these super deluxe orgazmo edition books with sounds and lights and enough zazz to fill your zazz jar for 15 years. The Book of Sith slid open like some deflowered ancient Egyptian tomb while the Star Trek Federation promised to sound like Sulu when it was all said and done. This year...little, black, almost invisible sampler books. Go figure. Quick note...the best part of this package? The section on "How to Hotwire a Landspeeder". Pure Gold.

BEHOLD!! Star Wars: The Bounty Hunter Code

Steampunk World's Fair 2013

Ah yes...a day among the dandies and mechanics and robo-armed outlaws and faeries and ...Batmans...and apes....and Mothers of Dragons and Hogwarts naturally, I went as Finn from Adventure Time...Steampunked up of course. Emi is a recovering Goth, so her wardrobe contains slinky little black mini skirts and epic hellraisery jackets, and that would do just fine, so we packed up our leather pouches and Jake shield and headed out for the far off land of Piscataway, New Jersey. Exotic, I know.

The show is a familiar one, so navigation wasn't so difficult. Let me break it down for you. Two Hotels (or Towers to make it fancier) encapsulate the Steampunk world with shenanigans spilling over into outside courtyards and some parking lot space. As you wander the halls, you'll find hotel rooms transformed into mini Shoppes (with an E!) selling everything from corsets to the essential goggles to sheriff's badges and little tiny top hats the ladies seem to love. Larger ballrooms swing open to hold more vendors with ray guns, taxidermied cryptozoology, jewelry and the recordings of any musical act on tap that weekend.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox Trailer

The world is turned upside down as one of earth’s greatest super heroes – Flash – wakes up devoid of his super powers in the all-new Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox – the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Original Animated Movies. Produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation, this all-new, PG-13 rated film arrives July 30, 2013 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Blu-Ray™ Combo Pack ($24.98 SRP), DVD ($19.98 SRP) and Digital Download. The Blu-ray™ Combo Pack will include UltraViolet™*.

When time travel allows a past wrong to be righted for Flash and his family, the event’s temporal ripples prove disastrous, creating a fractured, alternate reality where the Justice League never formed, and even Superman is nowhere to be found. Amidst a new world being ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman’s Amazons and Aquaman’s Atlanteans, Flash must team with a grittier, more violent Batman and government agent Cyborg to restore the continuity of Flash’s original timeline.

Bookexpo America 2013

How exactly do you cover a show with so much book porn per square inch, your fragile mind would explode mere minutes after entrance??!!?? One row at a time, I suppose...but that's boring for you to watch, so we are going to hit the high notes, take in all that was geeky and girl geeky, steampunky, comic booky, crafty, oddly interesting and just plain awesome, and drool over every new Star Wars offering. Deal? Deal. Let's begin..with STAR WARS!!

Over at DK, we found theYoda Chronicles (complete with a Special Forces Commander LEGO Minifigure), Star Wars Mega Models, Clone Wars Episode Guide, Star Wars Angry Birds Sticker Collection and Battles of the Clone Wars.

Venture Bros. Season 5 Premiere Reviewed

The long wait is long I'd forgotten the events that transpired just before this new hour long episode which seems to take off right where the last landed, as not to lose any steam. Taking a cue from Jackson and Doc, I'll jump right in with no further babble...

Following the events of Operation PROM where all the hookers were transformed into giant insect creatures, Brock loses the love of his life (or so it seemed) and we finally learn what a "Rusty Venture" is, the world of the Venture Bros. is understandable shook up...but SCIENCE MARCHES ON!! Doctor Venture is nearing a deadline to complete a shield array for his brother's space station and, as usual, has pissed the seed money away and is clueless as to how he might complete the project on his own, so it's all hands on deck. Dean is in a "black" phase, but helps to recruit kids from the nearby college to get the shield up and running. Sloppy science and an overabundance of radiation changes their outlook on life very quickly. While that is the bulk of the plot, you'll also see bits with The Monarch going through Henchman 21 withdrawal (so sad!!) and Billy Quizboy's new Arch Nemesis!! The only die hard complaint you'll probably hear is that the episode is severely Brock-light, but I've got a few other bones to pick myself.
