Another Look at Stark's Bitchin' Ride
Just a quick ride along with Tony Stark's Assemblers (Interchangeable Armor System) Battle Vehicle before the new year drops. When last we saw this toy, the text went something like this...
Tony Stark's stylish ride launches your Iron Assembler figure out of the front, mimicking a scene from the movie. Almost all figures are compatible. Feb 2013

Ultimate Spider-Man Toys Taking Shape
News is a little slow at the moment, so we thought we'd take a look at how those Ultimate Spider-Man animated series toys are progressing. We dropped word on the line back in November and had not heard anything since, so we gave a shout into the interwebingeekiverse..and it shouted back.
The 10 inch Electroweb Spider-Man: featuring an electro-shock web gauntlet with electric sound and light effects. Speaks phrases right from the cartoon. Jan 2013.
With a date like January, you'd think this news would be dropping like crazy right now! Oh well, we'll take what we can get. Though our newest image appeared with little information, it is safe to say this Spidey is the Electroweb figure we reported on. I'm still indifferent about how the cartoon design is translating to toys, but as we move on, you'll see that your worries over a store flooded with sleek, animated-style heroes is somewhat unfounded. Before we jump forward though, here's the old pic and the new one side by side for comparison...

An Iron Patriot for the New Year
We've drooled over the new Starkmobile and fell out of our seats laughing at his super high tech roller blade getaway design. We've poured over some of the new armors that are (almost definitely) going to be making up the first wave of Iron Assemblers action figures and speculated which, if not all, will make it to the big screen for Iron Man 3. Now we'll take a look at a couple more toys for the highly anticipated film. While they aren't earth shattering reveals, they are two more plastics to check off on Hasbro's 2013 release list ...and two steps closer to any hidden items we may not have heard about in the film. SUSPENSE!!
You've seen him in the trailer and caught him hanging out by motorcycles on set, so another picture of Iron Patriot is no big shakes, but a new Iron Man 12 inch figure has to be cause for celebration for Stark fans around the world. Like the last model we showed you, this toy seems like a mass market item with few (if any) bells and whistles and limited articulation. For the sake of comparison, we put the two together in a graphic. Commence drooling...

WB Cartoons Get Real
Thanks to BleedingCool and Cartoon Brew, we get a glimpse into what could be....could have been...might still be if the internet goes berserk over these clips...?? It's live action Hong Kong Phooey and Marvin the Martian, squeeking their way onto YouTube via Director Alex Zamm...
Where the clips came from isn't half as important as where they are going. Could this be the start of another onslaught of Cartoon to the Big Screen adaptation with your childhood toon stars yucking it up with hapless fleshy humans? With a twitch, I'm given a flashback of the Bullwinkle movie. Please...no more...but if you absolutely HAVE to...for the love of God......try harder. We beg of you.

Heather Buckley Muses on Jack Reacher
...and doesn't waste any time getting right to the meat of it.
Jack Reacher may have worked if it was shot in 1975 staring James Caan and Burt Young, but Tom Cruise is just not tough enough to deliver what the material needs. His Reacher may think he’s channeling Eastwood, but he just is not a badass. He’s Tom Cruise. Hollywood star. Wacky Scientologist. He couldn't bus Lee Marvin’s table at a bar. You need a grizzled worldly fucker in that role—quiet and weary, and yet a man of action—someone who challenges Henry Silva to arm wrestling and wins. Much like how the character is actually written by UK crime writer Jim Grant. In Grant's novels, Reacher is a mountain of a man, a typical pulp fiction drifter and anti-hero, a harsh character who knows the score. Bigger than life as these characters usually are; a sort of male superhero fantasy without the powers—but not a Cruise-style movie star.

2012 Holiday Geekbook: Inflatable Awesome
With Christmas Eve dropping on us tomorrow, you may be asking why we'd do a pseudo buying guide NOW. Here's my thinking. As geeks, we get to a certain age, and though our family understands who we are and what we are into, a large percentage of them do not like to...shall we say...Feed the Beast. And so..on our holiday, we get nice, thoughtful presents, but are left to our own devices to continue in the hunt for our particular "Holy Grail" of collectibles or just that day to day stumbling upon hysterically fun products we have to click BUY on immediately. Not all of us have husbands or wives who will indulge us! That said, as you wrap those final presents and bake the 60th batch of sugar cookies, Idle Hands presents a number of products we love...that you'll most likely want to possess with your new found holiday cash and work bonuses!
Assisting us in our demos is the lovely Jess Rajs of Gorgeous and Gory, the most excellent Zombie Mermaid Calendar IN THE WORLD.

Lionsgate Into 2013
It's the holidays and folks are scampering about, screaming at each other over stolen parking spaces, sale prices that aren't ringing up at the register while 50 angry shoppers wait impatiently in the shadows and that very last Cabbage Patch Kid that was really mine even though that woman with the three kids said it was hers and then she fell down. So I took it. Mine. Along with the Holidays comes prayer to our volcano gods and a look into the year to come. It's magical. Here's Lionsgate's lineup!

More Iron Man 3 Figures Surface
With an assist from Mighty Marvel_Freshman , my night of blissful slumber was ground to dust as a new Iron Man action figure mystery arose out of China. Ebay user bluesduff2008 appears to have...shall we say.."liberated" some new Iron Man 3 action figures fresh off the assembly line! Normally, we are very skeptical about these things, but after pouring over the pictures, we've found several signs these could be the real deal. First, there's the only description we've had so far of (seemingly) the ONLY 3 and 3 quarter inch Iron Man 3 figure line. **WARNING!! Spoilers Ahead!!**
"Iron Man 3 Iron Assemblers Action Figure Assortment: 14 "Connectable" figures (wave 1, Feb 2013) with multiple interchangable pieces to deliver maximum customization. Wave 2 in March and Wave 3 in April."

Disney in 2013
This time of year you'll see list after list of the things folks loved and hated...cheered for and wanted to set themselves on fire in protest towards. It's all very dramatic and I know for a fact a good half of the sites would rather not write them at all...but the hungry animal called society demands their lists. Today, I come not to feed the beast but to look forward (as we have been with our Toy Fair build up beginning 2 months early) as we glance into Disney's movie slate for 2013!! (providing we survive tomorrow's world ending kerfuffle, of course.)
Oz The Great and Powerful: Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well. When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great wizard—and just maybe into a better man as well. The Great Gatsby Trailer #2
"The Great Gatsby" follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan) and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.
Just ignore that Christmas date. You see nothing.

A Nasty Quarter Scale Hobbits
Because Hobbits is obviously the singular of Hobbitses. NECA have been dominating the Movie and Video Game action figure realms in a 7 inch format for some time. Now, they are obviously bored and looking to conquer the lands of higher plastic scales. Since today is All Hobbit's Eve, we thought it appropriate to bring out the star of the show. NECA's large scale Gollum is already hitting shelves across the planet and now, Mr. Bilbo Baggins is getting ready to join him!
Bilbo stands 12" tall and features over 20 points of articulation. He is dressed in his traveling outfit and comes with his sword, "Sting", and a sheath. The photorealistic portrait of actor Martin Freeman has to be seen to be believed.
Bilbo is in scale with previous figure releases like Gollum and the classic NECA Epic scale collection of Aragorn, Legolas, and Gandalf.

New Art for G.I. Joe Retaliation
...The comedy here being that the "Final Payoff" poster dropped May 11th, 2012. That last poster was also a Photoshop hodgepodge of images, but lord knows we've seen worse...visions of abominations of large heads on smaller bodies dance through my head. Thinking about those crimes against art, this new poster isn't so bad, but I still long for a day when poster art will be imaginative and excising again. For now..there's this.

LEGO in 2013: Forever Star Wars
If you were LEGO, would YOU let something like Star Wars slip away? Me neither. We've not heard anything on how the Disney acquisition of Lucas will effect individual licensors, but we are betting the answer is "Not at all for the forseeable future." Now.. when the current contracts run out...and if Disney acquires Hasbro...well..that is another story. ...And one we'll tell later..when it happens. For now, we are going to take a look at LEGO's Star Wars 2013 lineup!
NOTE: These pieces may not represent the FULL lineup for 2013.

Star Trek: Into Darkness Video Tease
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
LEGO in 2013: Legion of Mini Super Heroes
Toy Fair 2012 is over 2 months away, but if San Diego Comic Con can start their pre-show prep, so can we! We've been laying out Hasbro's action figure and construction kit plans for next year. Now we'll take a look at what LEGO has planned for their DC Comics and Marvel Comics universes.
For those looking forward to a new year when LEGO might explore the full breathe of the Marvel and DC comics worlds, we have good news and bad news. The good news is that the Marvel sets will include some new characters. The bad news is most of those new characters are either movie related or have an animated angle. In that same respect, in their DC lineups, you'll get new characters, but a great deal of them are re-released or movie related. Let's lay things out.
NOTE: Titles for sets may not be final or exact translations. Our info comes from all over the planet! Also note these may not be FULL lineups.

5 Against Jack Reacher
Sure, his name is not unlike that of a high quality gay porn star, but we all have our crosses to bear.
From The New York Times bestselling author Lee
Child comes one of the most compelling heroes to step from novel to screen -
ex-military investigator Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise). When a gunman takes five
lives in what seems like an open and shut murder case, all evidence points to
the suspect in custody. On
interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: “Get Jack Reacher!” So
begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Reacher against an unexpected
enemy with a skill for violence, a secret to keep and a target on Reacher’s
back. Written for the screen and directed
by Christopher McQuarrie and produced by Tom Cruise, Don Granger, Paula Wagner
and Gary Levinsohn, the film stars Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins,
Werner Herzog, David Oyelowo and Robert Duvall.

Star Trek: Into Darkness Gets New Art
May 17th, 2013 may as well be thought of as "looking into the future", but as these long waits for our nerdy pursuits often go, before you know it, you'll be watching new school Captain Kirk run with choppy hands once more. Until that time, we have this pretty, pretty picture.
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

Denny's Middle Earth Diner
Movie promotional tie-ins....are the best thing in the world. Some films take themselves way too seriously, which is why we don't get the pleasure of lenticular, singing Le Miserables Slurpee Cups. No fun. The Hobbit crew know the value of a good time, and a ridiculous tie-in with an eatery known for providing breakfast foods to stoners at 3am is just what the doctor ordered. BEHOLD....the Gandalf Gobble Melt...

Sexsquatch
Is there enough alcohol in the world to give birth to an idea like Sexsquatch...then fuel the fires of creation...then cast, shoot and edit such a thing? Apparently, yes...yes there is. You'd clearly have to be drunk the entire time...and have your cast be drunk and or stoned...or just recruit GWAR fans...either or..or all three.
My favorite part of all this is the title spelled three different ways, solidifying their commitment to this project. A+ Thanks to Dreadcentral.com for the heads up!

Meet the Ponies of "Adventures in the Crystal Empire"
Ohhhhhhh..THE PONIES!! The nearly hypnotic colors...the tattoo'd butts...resistance is futile. We know you love those marshmallow looking fillies, so here's a run down of the hyperactive, high voiced sparkle-buddies you'll see in the December 4th release of MY LITTLE PONIES: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC: ADVENTURES IN THE CRYSTAL EMPIRE on DVD!
APPLEJACK
Having grown up working hard to keep her family’s famous apple business growing, APPLEJACK has come to be known as the most down-to-earth, resourceful and dependable pony this side of PONYVILLE! A proud farm pony to the core, she’s not afraid to get her hooves dirty and to her, there’s nothing a little horse-sense and elbow-grease can’t take care of. APPLEJACK has an impeccable ability to break a situation down to its core and fix it fast and usually topped off with a wacky country anecdote told with a charming dose of country twang.

Heather Buckley VS New York Comic Con 2012: Day 2 & 3
We sent Heather Buckley to New York Comic Con 2012 to discover the wonders of this nerdy oasis in the heart of the mean city, knowing full well her horror convention instincts would lead her to adventure. We found Heather, crumpled and beaten, at the bottom of the stairs at Midtown Comics. It seems she stayed alive just long enough to write up this blog, edit her pictures and pen a lengthy odyssey-like tale of love and loss starring Peter Weller and Philip K. Dick. It was a buddy movie. The latter will be released in 2016, when Peter Weller has ripened. For now...this is Heather Buckley's Comic Con tale...
ABOUT LOYD:
My key goal today was to meet Christopher Lloyd. It was 50 bucks for his autograph and I had my Christopher Lloyd sack with me it case he could be captured and displayed in my parlor. I even posted the price and banner with Lloyd’s name on it to crowd source my answer: do I do it?
I mean, Lloyd is getting up there and when I was 14 years old, we were asked to write a letter to our favorite person and I picked him. I made my Mother tape every Taxi episode he was on. I loved him in Back to the Future, One Flew over the Cuucook’s Nest, Amazing Stories... I had to meet him, even if it was for one second. I needed a brush with Lloyd greatness.

The NECA Report: Carrie, Prometheus and Gremlins
Our last NECA update showed off a long awaited Portal figure for the game-obsessed alongside a new Dutch from Predator and a new scale for Gears of War action figures! Today's update isn't as earth shattering, but a Carrie action figure (though not based on the original film) is something to shout about..isn't it?
NECA continue their domination of the horror plastics universe with two new action figures from the upcoming Carrie remake (releasing March 15, 2013) with Chloë Grace Moretz (Hit Girl) in the title role. The 7 inch figure duo make up a sort of before and after...one depicting the moment just before being crowned Prom Queen...and one right after, drenched in pig's blood and gearing up tear some students apart with her freaky mind powers. The latter is sure to be a sought after piece for horror fans...unless they are King/De Palma purists, in which case they can sit there with their frowny faces and leave the plastics for the rest of us. The pair are said to drop (individually) late January. That's late Feb/Early March for those in the US.

Casting Info for X-Men: Days of Future Past
Hollywood's relationship with comics is funny. At times, the creatives of the film love the source material so much they stick to every beat ..and the public hates it. Others have contempt for the source material and strive to create a product with more bang for your buck, altering characters beloved by the comics community at large..and the public AND the comic geeks hate it. X-Men: First Class was an untouchable duck. After the under-performing last couple of X films, even Fox execs rolling around Toy Fair were nothing but grateful to the sole licensor for their film, as everyone expected this wildly divergent project to get a big thumbs down. Surprise surprise...people loved it. Now Bryan Singer; the man who made the original X-Men film a box office success story; has returned to direct the "sequel" Days of Future Past..and he's bringing the old and new gangs with him.

Professor Elemental - I'm Brittish
No snow today, but quite a bit of wet, which makes me long for my days of intense stomach pains from bad food, unruly weather and bitter, bitter cold as we stood alongside some old rocks. Yes, I speak of my adventure to the UK...where people reroute for a peacock in the road and you aren't allowed to have water with lunch at the pub. It's just not done. Here's a message from one of our favorite Brits; Professor Elemental, who would like to play you a jaunty little tune...
"Well hello. Nasty Mystery Hobbitses
Those nasty, filthy, thieving hobbitses are going to be all over merchandising for the next month or so! We've taken more than a couple of looks at toys celebrating the good, the bad and the gobliny of Middle Earth (HERE and HERE and HERE)and now, we'll get a glimpse of some more plastics to add to your desk armies...
The Vivid Toy Group out of the UK nabbed a Hobbit license and teased "a range of collectables to coincide with the major movie release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Though their website still says "coming soon", the pre-orders have begun to drop..ready or not! Seems as if Vivid will be releasing a line of blind packaged, mini Hobbit figures with characters including Thorin Oakenshield, Grinnah the Goblin, Bofur the Dwarf, another Goblin, Gandalf in two different poses, Tauriel, Gollum, Bolg, Yazneg, Bolbo Baggins in two different poses, Kili the Dwarf, Dwalin the Dwarf, Balin the Dwarf, Fili the Dwarf and Radagast. Each sculpt will come in silver metal, gold and bronze colorways. No word yet on the rarities of each character, but we'll be looking to find out!

Heather Buckley VS New York Comic Con 2012: Day 1
Some press folks rush home from their daily toils at conventions to post their scoops, sneaks and rumors. We here at Idle Hands like to ruminate on our findings, letting them gel until the consistency of a fine paste we can use to affix the geektastic informations like a Motley Crue tour poster engaged to a brick wall..forever intertwined. We sent Heather Buckley out into the microcosm of New York Comic Con to experience the show as only a Heather Buckley could. This...is her story.
DAY ONE:
NERD HORDE
I got to Jacob Javits Center the earliest I could on October 13th in the year of our Time Lord 2012. After being ushered into the industry entrance, I was given a Walking Dead badge (a female zombie, claw grasped around a gate for Press) and moved my way though a rainbow of nerds, geeks, and fan boys in various states of fancy dress.
I saw a slew of anime demon girls with candy corn horns—wondering all along whom they were supposed to be and why there were so many have them. I saw lots of Catwomen in all shapes and controversial sizes. 15,000 female Lokis (the new Catwoman for Cosplay?) and Ghostbusters. Some commented on my bihawk and asked who I was dressed as (“I am dressed as Heather Buckley, maybe you should try it sometime.”). All this attempting to get to my candy apple goal: Bruce Timm.

The NECA Report: Predator, Portal, Gears of War & More!
With the holidays quickly approaching, all our plastic huntings will go on hold as our loved ones attempt to snap up at least a couple of items from our wish lists..or as it is in my case, have them say "this stuff is stupid..can't we get you something PRACTICAL?!"
