Casting Info for X-Men: Days of Future Past

Hollywood's relationship with comics is funny. At times, the creatives of the film love the source material so much they stick to every beat ..and the public hates it. Others have contempt for the source material and strive to create a product with more bang for your buck, altering characters beloved by the comics community at large..and the public AND the comic geeks hate it. X-Men: First Class was an untouchable duck. After the under-performing last couple of X films, even Fox execs rolling around Toy Fair were nothing but grateful to the sole licensor for their film, as everyone expected this wildly divergent project to get a big thumbs down. Surprise surprise...people loved it. Now Bryan Singer; the man who made the original X-Men film a box office success story; has returned to direct the "sequel" Days of Future Past..and he's bringing the old and new gangs with him.

Casting news for the film include 1st Classmen James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Nicholas Hoult (Beast) and Jason Flemyng (Azazel) and X-Allum Ian McKellen (Magneto) and Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier).  SO..being a giant X-Men nerd, here's my take on this. The story line in the comics shows a bleak future where the giant robot Sentinels are allowed to go forth and wipe America clean of Mutant activity, all triggered by the assassination of a state representative by rogue evil mutants. Those who give up quietly are put into camps. Those that fight back are squashed under the robo-boot heel. While the mutants are all being corralled, the Sentinels turn their sights on the other super powered folks as well. The ensuing war brings devastation at every turn. I could be off on some points but that's the gist as I remember it many moons ago. Clearly some time traveling will be afoot along the same lines and Professor X and Magneto will be left behind, otherwise they wouldn't be their old guy selves in the future. SCIENCE!! This scenario also suggests NEW familiar mutants will be introduced to take the trip along with Beast, into the past to prevent a "babies on fire" future..so start revving your speculation engines on that point! There's also the question of who might travel from the future, into our time to warn the 1st Classmen? Since Wolverine was one of the sole "free" mutants left fighting the good fight in our bleak future, we may have room for another cameo..or perhaps a bigger role this time? Fingers crossed.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for a 2014 release.
