NYCC 2025: Hazbin Hotel at Banpresto

Back onto the show floor, where we fought through a sea of oversized backpacks and dodged zombies with their faces glued to their cell phones WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE WALKING!! Ahem. Anyway, we ran into Banpresto. Yay. What is usually a sea of Dragon Ball Z pvcs was replaced by an ocean of Hazbin Hotel merch! The old heads bellowed, "What's a Hazbin Hotel?" 

This adult animated musical series follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination that was imposed by Heaven, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be "checking out" after proving their souls are redeemable.

What is it about reducing things down to pocket-sized that drives kids and adults crazy?? For me and other toy photographers, mini-sizing toys means our action figures have toys of their own,,,which makes for some amusing shots. Five Below's mini food offerings have been a major score in this respect, as toy photographers have no limitations for food and drink on which their subjects may chow down. Arguably, the originators of the down-sizing movement, Super Impulse, must look at their competitors with a "been there done that" attitude, making the task of finding NEW objects to minify more challenging. So...how about plush?

Yes, folks, WEREBEARS are back, and from the look of things at UK Toy Fair this morning, they are brilliant!

Leading US plush supplier The Beverly Hills Teddy Bear Company (BHTB) has confirmed Character Options as the distributor of the nostalgic and gritty WereBears brand, which is due to relaunch this autumn in the UK and Eire.

The WereBears series of teddy bears was originally released in the United Kingdom in 1983. Philanthropist, author and cartoonist George Nicholas created them so that boys could embrace the teddy bears culture without the worry of teasing. 42 years on, the original characters that have both soft and sinister sides will appeal to both boys and girls with their wacky personalities.

Championing WereBears’ resurgence and with demand for 80s toy brands never being higher, Midco Toys’ David Middleton decided it was time to bring WereBears back to life and, together with Intertoy, encouraged the partnership between BHTB and Character Options.

Heart Bubbles Over Walmart: Valentine's Day at Retail

The calendar retail follows to celebrate holidays monetarily will always be a bit of a mystery, mostly because it changes from store to store, region to region, and year to year. One year, three days before Halloween, it seemed the spooky holiday was abandoned and Target aisles went full speed through the nearest wall into Christmas Town. This year, my local PA Walmart hung onto those creepy vibes at least a week after the blessed day, allowing me to scoop up makeup, costume pieces, and monster decor at 90% off. We haven't even hit the 10th of January yet, but my Walmart has gone completely red and pink with Valentine's Day hearts slapped on the belly of every licensed character imaginable. While I can recall some interesting Valentine's merch in the past (a furry sasquatch themed, heart-shaped box instantly comes to mind), this year makes me think someone suggested they had not been exploiting the lovey-dovey holiday enough. The amount of merch and wide range of characters spotted is STAGGERING ...for the wallet....because there's some awesome stuff! Prepare your bank account and start your hunting engines...

Today NECA announced a full line of action figures, plush and collectibles to be released in partnership with MGM’s series Wednesday, streaming exclusively on Netflix. Sweet Suite 2021: Cats vs Pickles!!!

Annnnnnd we're back into Sweet Suite 2021 coverage! We stumbled across the Cats vs Pickles booth at Toy Fair 2019, completely by accident, and were instantly happy we walked in. The bright colors and endless variations of highly creative cat designs, along with the super cute art style floored us, and this was before we even realized there were pickles too, and the whole line was pretty much based on viral vids showing cats reacting to their mortal veggie enemy. Brilliant! Apparently, the world thought so too, and the rest is history. Let's take a look at what's to come for this squishy, mega popular toy line...
