SDCC 2026: One Ring to Rule Comic-Con

The Lord of the Rings Fan Club
Middle-earth Enterprises is bringing THE OFFICIAL FAN CLUB OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ to San Diego Comic-Con 2026, giving fans their first opportunity to join the new free community. Designed for fans of The Lord of the Rings™, The Hobbit™, and the wider world of Middle-earth, brings fandom to life through Quests, collectible Mathoms, Fellowships, daily games, and community-driven adventures that continue long after Comic-Con ends.

Launching alongside the fan club is Gather The Fellowship, the first official community program, inviting fans to work together across online and in-person activities during San Diego Comic-Con. Whether scanning codes at convention booths, checking into panels, solving lore challenges, uncovering secret phrases, or participating from home, members can complete Quests to earn collectible digital Mathoms: keepsakes that commemorate their personal journey through Middle-earth. Attendance at San Diego Comic-Con is not required, allowing Fellowships to collaborate from anywhere in the world!

Built to celebrate the people, creators, and fan groups that have kept Middle-earth thriving for generations, The Official Fan Club of The Lord of the Rings™ brings fans, creators, licensees, and community leaders together in one official destination.

"For decades, fans have built extraordinary communities around Middle-earth with creativity, care, and remarkable commitment," said Jay Komas, General Manager of Middle-earth Enterprises. "LOTR.com is an opportunity to recognize that passion, support the communities that have helped carry it forward, and create an official space where fans, creators, licensees, and community leaders can participate together."

Beyond Gather the Fellowship, members can build lasting collections of Mathoms, play daily Middle-earth-inspired games, and connect with the creators, fan groups, and communities that have shaped Tolkien fandom for decades. Community leaders, known as Heralds, will be able to create dedicated spaces within LOTR.com, while official licensees, known as “Merchants,” can host announcements, promotions, rewards, and exclusive fan experiences. The launch also includes “Give Us a Gold Ring,” a community campaign supporting a proposal for a plain gold ring emoji to be submitted to the Unicode Consortium following San Diego Comic-Con. Members of the original early-2000s Official Fan Club whose names appeared in the Extended Edition film credits will also be able to search a special archive and claim a commemorative digital keepsake.

As part of the launch, Middle-earth Enterprises has appointed Chris Pirrotta as Vice President of Marketing & Fan Experience. Pirrotta cofounded TheOneRing.net in 1998 and helped grow it into one of the longest-running fan communities dedicated to Middle-earth, which continues to operate independently through its volunteer team, while Pirrotta leads the fan experience behind LOTR.com.

"When we started TheOneRing.net in 1998, the internet still felt like a place you went to find your people," said Pirrotta. "A lot has changed since then. Too much of the modern internet rewards outrage, pile-ons, and the loudest voice in the room. LOTR.com is being built for something different, inspired by the community at the heart of Middle-earth: a place where everyone has a part to play, whether they arrive as royalty, a seasoned Wizard, a loyal gardener, or someone taking their first step out the door. No one is above anyone else here. That is what makes this work with the Middle-earth Enterprises team so meaningful. This is not just about opening an official site. It is about opening the door wider, with a welcome to all."

From lifelong Tolkien readers and film fans to gamers, collectors, and newcomers discovering Middle-earth for the first time, The Official Fan Club of The Lord of the Rings™ brings the global community together through shared adventures, interactive experiences, and exclusive rewards inspired by one of fantasy's most enduring worlds.
