Legendary Comic Creator Mike Mignola and Hellboy Return to Hell

Legendary creator Mike Mignola and Dark Horse Comics have devilish plans for Hellboy this winter. In October, Mignola and artist Cyrille Pomès (Moon, 6,000 Miles to Freedom) will return to the iconic Hellboy in Hell saga with Hellboy in Hell: Nothing But Blood. Then, in December, Mignola will reunite with Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.:Time is a River artist Márk László for Hellboy In Hell: Parade of Horrors – a two-issue comic event that finds Hellboy attending the Devil’s funeral. Written by Mignola with art by László, colors by Dave Stewart, and letters by Clem Robins, both issues of Hellboy In Hell: Parade of Horrors will feature covers by László; with a variant cover from Mignola on issue 1 and Bridgit Connell on issue 2. 

Mike Mignola and Brother Team for THE CROWN: A TALE OF HELL

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and his brother Todd Mignola (“Hellboy: The Exorcist of Vorsk”) are teaming up with artist Warwick Johnson-Cadwell (Our Encounters with Evil) for a hellacious family reunion for the creators and their characters in The Crown: A Tale of Hell. Starring Hellboy’s brothers and their mother, the two-issue comic event will feature covers by Johnson-Cadwell and variant covers by Mignola and Bruno Seelig. 

“Todd came to me with the idea of writing something about Hellboy’s brothers,” explains Mike Mignola. “It never would have occurred to me to do more with those guys but it didn’t take much prodding. Brothers writing about brothers in a somewhat complicated family dynamic—once we got going it was almost too easy. And fun. And SO MUCH fun that I could only imagine it drawn by Warwick.” 

Blaze a Trail to the Wild West of the Hellboy Universe in Carmen Red Claw: Belly of the Beast

Legendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is joining forces with writer/artist Rae Allen (The Manderfield Devil, Town with a Million Eyes) for a new paranormal Western in Carmen Red Claw: Belly of the Beast, a new series that connects to Lobster Johnson lore and the greater Hellboy Universe.Co-written by Mignola and Allen, with art from Allen, colors from Michelle Madsen, and letters from Clem Robins, this four-issue series will feature covers from Allen with variants from Mike Mignola, Jake Parker, Tonci Zonjic, and Benjamin Schipper. 

“I’ve wanted to find a project for Rae for a long time, and finally just had the good sense to ask her if she had something in mind—and she did,” explains Mike Mignola. “She had half a dozen ideas—all great—but I was super impressed with this one, that she was able to create an entire character and situation based on a super tiny bit of a Lobster Johnson history. Such a fun addition to the Hellboy universe. We banged some details back and forth, but that was all fun and easy. She is a joy to work with and I hope this is only the beginning.”

Frankenstein: New World - The Sea of Forever

Mike Mignola and his longtime collaborators, writers Christopher Golden and Thomas Sniegoski and artist Peter Bergting are teaming up to continue their fan-favorite story of Frankenstein: New World in a new four-issue limited series. Written by Mignola, Golden, and Sniegoski with art from Bergting, colors by Michelle Madsen, and letters from Clem Robins, Frankenstein: New World – The Sea of Forever is a thrilling new chapter in the Hellboy Universe. 

“I am ridiculously excited about this series! Hellboy’s world may be over, but its echoes ripple through the New World, as you’ll discover in The Sea of Forever.” Co-writer Christopher Golden added, “There’s room for so many unique stories in this series. At the same time, Frankenstein and Lilja’s journey has a destination, and we can’t wait to bring you there!"

New Hellboy Print Celebrates... Pamcakes

Dark Horse Direct is releasing a hand-numbered, limited edition print of Mike Mignola’s iconic, two-page Pancakes comic, in which young Hellboy discovers “pamcakes.” The collectible limited edition print is the latest in a series of 30th anniversary Hellboy screenprints and is now available for pre-order.

Pancakes first appeared in the 1999 Dark Horse Presents Annual. Written and drawn by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, the seminal story gives fans a glimpse into what it was like to raise a young Hellboy and reminds readers that he’s not so different from any other kid on Earth. 

SDCC 2024: Hellboy: The Crooked Man Trailer Reveal

They say all hell can break out at San Diego Comic-Con, and this year, it did! And the people cheered. Comic-Con rolled out a panel for Hellboy: The Crooked Man that featured Hellboy himself, Jack Kesy (Deadpool 2), alongside Jefferson White (‘Yellowstone’), Adeline Rudolph (‘Resident Evil’), Director Brian Taylor (Crank), and Hellboy creator, Mike Mignola, where they revealed the official trailer for a packed house of Big Red fanatics. 

During the panel, Mignola shared his excitement for the upcoming film noting:

• This is the first horror film in the Hellboy Franchise 
• Hellboy was first teased at San Diego Comic-Con in the 1990s, so The Crooked Man panel has brought things full circle.

Mignola and Fegredo Re-Unite for GIANT ROBOT HELLBOY

Legendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and superstar artist Duncan Fegredo have collaborated on some of the most iconic Hellboy Universe stories of all time, including Hellboy: Darkness Calls, Hellboy: The Wild Hunt, and Hellboy: The Storm and The Fury. Now the acclaimed duo, along with Eisner Award-winning colorist Dave Stewart and longtime Hellboy Universe letterer Clem Robins, are reuniting for a thrilling, three-part miniseries: Giant Robot Hellboy. Inspired by Mignola’s viral-hit pencil drawings from Mike Mignola: The Quarantine Sketchbook, Giant Robot Hellboy features a Mecha-Hellboy and Mega-Monsters. GraphicAudio Announces Hellboy Universe Audiobook Original Series

RBmedia, the largest audiobook publisher in the world, today announced that its GraphicAudio brand is releasing three original Hellboy Universe audiobooks written by bestselling author Christopher Golden. The first audiobook in the series will be released in July.

Mike Mignola on Frankenstein: New World from Dark Horse Comics

Frankenstein: New World features the return of Mignola’s take on the Frankenstein monster with the first story to be set chronologically after the conclusion of B.P.R.D.: The Devil You Know, which had concluded the epic story of Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. Mignola will illustrate a variant cover for issue #1, colored by award-winning colorist Dave Stewart. 

Sir Edward Grey: Acheron - Written and Illustrated by Mike Mignola

For the first time in five years, legendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is both writing and illustrating a full length comic book, one which provides the next chapter in the fabled Hellboy Universe. Titled Sir Edward Grey: Acheron, the one shot story is set following the events of B.P.R.D.: The Devil You Know, in which the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense managed to fight off the monsters on earth long enough for humanity to barely escape underground. The story is Mignola’s first full length comic book since Dark Horse Comics published Hellboy in Hell in 2016; here he reunites with award-winning colorist Dave Stewart, as well as letterer and longtime collaborator Clem Robbins. Dark Horse Comics will publish Sir Edward Grey: Acheron this winter, featuring a main cover by Mignola and Stewart and a variant cover by acclaimed artist Ben Stenbeck and Stewart. 

Beehive Books Announces Mike Mignola’s Illustrated Edition of Pinocchio

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Beehive Books are collaborating on an all-new illustrated edition of Carlo Collodi’s classic novel Pinocchio, featuring a cover and illustrations by Mignola and award-winning colorist Dave Stewart. The project, which will be coming to Kickstarter next year, was announced timed to Mignola’s appearance at LightBox Expo Online.  Mignola will be exhibiting two pieces from Beehive Books’s Illuminated Edition of Pinocchio at his virtual artist alley booth at LightBox Expo Online, which runs from September 7th through Sunday, September 12th. 

“Pinocchio has been one of my two favorite books (along with Dracula) for as long as I can remember,” said Mignola. “It’s shaped the way I write and the way I think. It's got everything — amazingly strange humor as well as surprising flashes of surreal horror and violence — and tackling it has been a challenge. I’m thrilled to team with Beehive book for this. The books they’ve produced have been true works of art and cannot wait to see what they do with stuff I’m giving them.”

Dark Horse Comics Announces YOUNG HELLBOY: THE HIDDEN LAND

In 2021, legendary HELLBOY creator Mike Mignola, co-writer Tom Sniegoski, artist Craig Rousseau, colorist Dave Stewart, and letterer Clem Robins will explore an untold chapter of Hellboy’s childhood in YOUNG HELLBOY: THE HIDDEN LAND. In this four-issue series from Dark Horse Comics, Hellboy and Professor Bruttenholm are stranded on a strange island after a mishap on their way to a South American dig site. They soon find themselves confronted by all manner of monsters, and even when the stranger who rescues them turns out to be one of Hellboy’s heroes, they aren’t as safe as they think they are. The four issue mini-series features covers by Folklords artist Matt Smith. Mignola and award-winning colorist Dave Stewart provide the variant cover for the debut issue, with subsequent issues featuring variant covers by Rachele Aragno (#2), Wylie Beckert (#3) and Anthony Carpenter (#4).

Dark Horse Announces HELLBOY Universe Essentials

The stories of the Hellboy Universe are some of the most celebrated and beloved in comics fandom. Blending folklore, horror, mythology, action, and adventure, legendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and a host of celebrated writers and artists have chronicled the adventures of Hellboy, the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, Lobster Johnson, and Sir Edward Grey for more than two decades. Beginning in 2021, Dark Horse Books will publish four volumes of essential Hellboy Universe stories, all selected by Mike Mignola, each featuring all new covers by Mignola and award-winning colorist Dave Stewart. 

“In some cases—B.P.R.D. and Witchfinder—it was pretty easy to select the one “essential” book,” said Mignola. “Hellboy was more complicated, as there is so much ground to cover. In the end we chose to go with a collection of short stories rather than a single graphic novel, to give more of an overview of the character. We chose certain stories that say important things about his background, but also some that just show what he does and how he does it. A couple of stories are in there just because they are my favorites.”

Dark Horse Comics Announces Hellboy Day

Next year, on Saturday March 23, 2019, Dark Horse Comics will celebrate the 25th anniversary of legendary comic book creator Mike Mignola’s most famous creation with Hellboy Day. In 1994, Dark Horse Comics published the debut issue of Hellboy: Seed of Destruction and introduced comic book readers to the Right Hand of Doom, the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, and one of the most iconic comic book characters—and universes—of all time. For 2019’s Hellboy Day celebration, Dark Horse will publish a 25th anniversary, promotional edition of Hellboy: Seed of Destruction issue 1, featuring a new cover by Mignola and colorist Dave Stewart, which will be given away at participating comic book shops; and select stores across the country will host Hellboy Day events.

In 1993, legendary comic book creator Mike Mignola’s most famous creation, Hellboy, first appeared in a four page, black and white story in San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2, months ahead of his full issue comic book debut in Hellboy: Seed of Destruction. Skelton Crew Studio Serves Up Itty Bitty Hellboy

Skelton Crew Studio, a comic book replica studio based in the wilds of Maine, has teamed up with Art Baltazar to cook up a new limited edition itty bitty Hellboy mini-bust. Baltazar and Franco are behind the Eisner-winning “itty bitty Hellboy” comic, based on Mike Mignola’s iconic Hellboy, only cuter. This officially licensed collectible measures 3.75-inches tall and features itty bitty Hellboy standing, with his trademark smirk, giving a thumbs up, on a big stack of buttery, syrupy pancakes. It’s beautifully sculpted by Arlen Pelletier.

Skelton Crew Studio has been collaborating with Mike Mignola since 2012 when it launched the B.P.R.D. Artifact Archive Collection, but this is its first collaboration with “Aw Yeah! Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today revealed the first-ever gameplay trailer for Hellboy, Mike Mignola’s iconic Dark Horse comic book character and the final Fighter Pack #2 character to be added to the Injustice 2 roster. Beginning November 14, players who have purchased the Injustice 2 Ultimate Edition, Injustice 2 Digital Deluxe Edition, Injustice 2 Ultimate Pack or Fighter Pack #2 will be able to play as the member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense who has made monster disposal his specialty by using his trusty revolver and his Right Hand of Doom.
