DC Universe Digital Service Announces Series for Harley Quinn, Swamp Thing & More

With a world of multi-media enterprises looking to take a bite out of Netflix's massive direct to viewer streaming dollars, DC Comics, or more properly, their uber Daddy Warner Brothers, have announced DC Universe, a first-of-its kind, immersive digital experience designed just for DC fans. One glance at the DC Comics website will reveal pretty title cards for Titans, Swamp Thing, Young Justice: Outsiders and Harley Quinn. Seems a little odd to launch with two shows that are seemingly about the teenage sidekicks of the DC Comic Universe, and odder still they would shove the Young Justice and Outsiders names together, but once you realize Young Justice is the continuation of the mega-popular but ill-fated animated TV series, all is forgiven!

Confidence should be high in DC taking on more "small screen" projects, as their current roster of TV offerings includes Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Gotham, Black Lightning and Legends of Tomorrow, which have all found their fan base. On the small screen, DC Comics far outpaces Marvel. Now WB will come out of the gate with their mega star Harley Quinn leading the pack to digital, which is sure to turn more than a couple of heads. After all, red and black are "in"! (*see Deadpool 2 this month!)

Little more is known about the service, but we do have details on Swamp Thing, which I'm hoping aims for a more PG13 crowd. All signs point to YES.

Swamp Thing: A one hour drama Based on characters from DC created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, launching in 2019.
When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

From Executive Producers James Wan (The Saw Series, The Conjuring, Aquaman), Mark Verheiden (Constantine TV, Daredevil TV, Ash vs Evil Dead), Gary Dauberman (IT, Annabelle Writer), Michael Clear (The Nun, Annabelle, Lights Out)
Co-Producer: Rob Hackett (Atomic Monster)
Written by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman

Impressive credits suitable for some killer horror moments!!

We've also got past details on the third season of Young Justice:
In “Young Justice: Outsiders,” the teenage Super Heroes of the DC Universe come of age in an animated world of super-powers, Super-Villains and super secrets. In the highly anticipated new season, the team faces its greatest challenge yet as it takes on meta-human trafficking and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy.

And the Titans live action series:
Titans follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven, Hawk and Dove, Beast Boy, and many others. Titans is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.

I'm looking forward to all DC Universe has to offer in the coming months!
