Toy Fair 2014: Fleshing Out the Transformers: Age of Extinction Story

We live in the future. It is a glorious future where one does not have to watch a football team get massacred in order to enjoy the true highlights of the evening..namely the half time show where Bruno Mars went all Boyz II Men on a wailing audience, the commercials, which were mostly more odd than good, and the new movie trailers, among which some of you got your first glimpse of the crazy, crazy, super damn crazy over complicated designs for the robots of Transformers 4. Let's start by watching the teaser 3 or 4 times, because it is Monday.

Key moments include a green robot parachuting into a city blasting away, Bumblebee vs 2 headed Pteranodon robot (because the 2 headed Pteranodon was one of the most fearsome creatures of the Dinosaur age) and, of course, Optimus Prime rides a Robo T Rex.

As usual, toy images are pouring in from all over the world, shot at various toy fairs, while sales teams race to get new product images out to retailers and get those pre-orders rolling out (you see what I did there). We already got an excellent look at Optimus with the reveal of his First Edition toy. Here's a recap...

So here's my question..if that up there is what Optimus Prime looks like in the new film, who is this below?? Will Optimus get a makeover half way through the film? Does it have something to do with why he is hanging upside down at one point in the teaser?

Seibertron.com gives us a look at one line called Mash Ems showing the faces of our Transformers 4 combatants...

And some art on a Transformers Connect 4 box revealing Drift...

The Dinobots may occupy a large chunk of the film, as evidenced by their domination of the 2014 Hasbro Transformers release schedule, some of which gives little details as to movie plot points as well as names I hadn't seen dropped before, alongside Grimlock...

Kre-O Cell Block Breakout - March
Kre-O Grimlock Street Attack - March
Kre-O Lockdown Air Raid - March
Kre-O Optimus Prime Dino Hauler - March
Kre-O Glavatron Factory Battle - March

So from what we can see in that quick teaser, the Autobots will battle the Dinobots in the middle of a populated city...and from what you've just read in these Kre-O descriptions, they eventually become the best of friends and party down in Optimus's trailer. TRAILER PARTY!! I'll also point out that the naming of Galvatron all but seals the deal that Unicron is on the way.

And while we don't have a look at these specific toys, we do have some shots of the Mr. Potatohead line! .....well..it's something...

And some assorted items showing off more sides of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee...or are just fun...like the Optimus Prime Hologram looking statue piece...

And Grimlock! From the new Transformers Mashers line.

  1. Pteranadon? Perhaps it's Predaking, who's had a huge push lately. This site is such trash.
