Tour The Godzilla Hotel

On 9 April, a special ceremony was held to appoint Godzilla as a tourism ambassador for Tokyo’s Shinjuku district. At the ceremony a huge Godzilla head was unveiled atop Hotel Gracery Shinjuku, which is scheduled to open on 24 April 2015.

The Shinjuku Toho Building is now a new landmark in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho area. The new building houses not only Hotel Gracery Shinjuku, but also Tokyo's largest cinema complex. The life-size Godzilla head is installed on the buildings 8th floor terrace and roars, and blows smoke at certain times of the day. The height of Godzilla head if 12-m, so to scale for Godzilla’s ‘real life’ size in his 1954 film debut. Dive in for a look around the hotel!

The most striking feature of the new hotel will is the huge Godzilla head poking out of the hotel’s roof and also Godzilla themed rooms. The hotel sits atop Shinjuku's Toho Cinema, Toho being the original creators of the Godzilla films and they are planning to release a new Godzilla film in 2016.  Some of the rooms have views of the huge Godzilla head and clawed hands, whilst others are decorated with Godzilla memorabilia. There will also be an observation deck on the roof, ideal for photos with Godzilla.

The hotel is now taking bookings with a special opening offer of 13,000 yen (£73) per room for their regular non-Godzilla themed rooms. The Godzilla Room is 39,800 yen (£224) during weekdays and 49,800 yen (£281) during weekends and holidays. There are two Godzilla View Rooms available, starting at 15,000 yen (£84) a night.
