Toy Fair 2014: Transformers 4 Optimus Prime Arrives

Our team has two mandates on the floor of any convention, but especially at trade shows. 1 is to look for excellent, new toys from our favorite lines. The second is to pour over every booth for imagery from new movies we are anticipating. With this marching order in mind, our crew sent over scattered images of the new Transformers logo and packaging, and occasionally got us a glimpse of character designs from Transformers: Age of Extinction!

First, a company called New World Toys showed off stacks of new games from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and My Little Pony to Star Wars Tic Tac Toss and on the upper shelves, we found these gems...

Remote Control vehicle creators NIKKO showed off a transforming Bumblebee and Optimus Prime as well as straight vehicle mode Bumble Bee and Lockdown, and a generic helicopter to round things out.

Meanwhile, back in the states where we don't believe in building anticipation anymore, Hasbro just threw this Transformers: Age of Extinction First Edition Optimus Prime onto the internet with zero fanfare. Killjoys.

Reactions have been largely negative (surprise surprise) with longtime Transformers fans shouting "Ultra Magnus Returns!" and more than a few comparing the new weapons to He-Man's gear. My only comment would be this...Just when we got used to the often overly complicated designs of the Transformers robot cast, they found a way to make them MORE complicated. Insane.

OK ...now show me the Dinobots. Maybe I won't blame you for raping my childhood.
