The Hobbit Figures In Production

LinkWhen last we met the stars of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit in plastic form, we were gazing upon the first images of our pint sized adventurers...plus one tall, grey wizard. Now, as we inch closer to the October 1st release date, the actual production pictures are dropping. For those new to these terms, here's a quick course.

What you see when a toy is first announced in most likely a prototype. This is the most perfectly painted, perfectly sculpted figure the company has on hand for photography. What happens next is the result of fan outrage, licensor mind-changing, company cost cuts and the overall rigors of actual mass production. Looks are tweaked, paints are added or subtracted and sometimes even sculpts are re-vamped before the little suckers are punched out in China. Sometimes the changes make a hell of a difference...for better or for worse. Sometimes the actor insists the likeness is unacceptable and demands changes, causing the finished figure to..well..suck. It has happened..many, many times. In the case of The Hobbit toys, I leave the final approvals up to you! We'll provide comparisons of the early and finished models, side by side, and you can give your thumbs up or down with your hard earned pre-order bucks. We've organized them 6 inch Bilbo, Galdalf & Thorin, then 3 and 3 quarter inch Kili & Fili, Balin & Dwalin, and separate views of the stars of the show, Gollum and Bilbo. (click the names to pre-order!) Those 3 and 3 quarter inch were grouped as they are in 2 packs. CLICK HERE for further details. Here's the eye candy...

We also got a hold of the individual, 3 and 3 quarter inch action figure images for Gandalf, Thorin and Bilbo to round out the series. Enjoy!
