A Monsters Inc 3D Trailer!

I can't think of a movie more perfect for 3D than Monsters Inc ...with all the arm flailing, monster scaring, action sequences and such. December 19th will be here in no time, so time for the TEASERS!!

“Monsters, Inc.,” one of Disney•Pixar’s most beloved and visually imaginative feature films ever, returns to the big screen to delight a whole new generation of audiences and fans alike, this time in stunning 3D. The now-classic Academy Award®-winning animated comedy adventure “Monsters, Inc.” is set in Monstropolis, a thriving company town where monsters of all shapes and sizes reside. Lovable Sulley (voiced by John Goodman) and his wisecracking best friend Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) are the top scare team at Monsters, Inc., the largest scream-processing factory. The main power source in the monster world is the collected screams of human children—and at Monsters, Inc., an elite team of scarers is responsible for gathering those precious natural resources. Believed by monsters to be toxic, children are strictly forbidden from entering Monstropolis. But when a little girl named Boo (voiced by Mary Gibbs) accidentally follows Sulley back into his world, he finds his career in jeopardy and his life in utter chaos. So pals Mike and Sulley plot to rectify the mistake and return Boo to her home. But when the trio encounters an unexpected series of complications, they become embroiled in a cover-up catapulting them into a mystery beyond their wildest dreams.

G.I.Joe Retaliation Bumped to 2013

Here's the official statement from Hasbro:

Hasbro, Inc (NASDAQ:HAS), and Paramount Pictures, announced today that G.I. JOE: RETALIATION will now be released in 3D. The film, originally slated for release in June 2012, is scheduled to be released March 29, 2013.

"It is increasingly evident that 3D resonates with movie-goers globally and together with Paramount, we made the decision to bring fans an even more immersive entertainment experience," said Brian Goldner, Hasbro's President and CEO.

"In 2012, we continue to have several strong motion picture and television entertainment backed properties that are selling well at retail and our entertainment strategy remains strong and on-track," Goldner said. "Through our own Hasbro Studios for television and in partnership with several movie studios including Paramount, Universal, Sony and Relativity, we are creating entertainment experiences around many of our highly popular iconic brands. For the full year 2012, we continue to believe, absent the impact of foreign exchange, we will again grow revenues and earnings per share."

The funny thing is, the legal under this statement is longer than the statement itself! I'd post it but I'm afraid you'd burst a blood vessel whilst reading. No doubt, Hasbro is expecting some backlash from retailers already selling movie product and taking pre-orders on plenty of further product, all hinged on the release of a film that is now a year away. People have begun to speculate that the stall "due to a post 3D conversion" excuse really means "with a market already dominated by The Avengers and monsters like Prometheus, Dark Knight Rises and Amazing Spider-Man on the way...we chicken out" or to a greater degree "we are expecting unkind numbers back from Battleship's run, so we need to distance ourselves before we damage the Hasbro brand further on an un-sure thing." Either are probably true..or both. The facts remain..we'll have to wait til 2013 for the further adventures of Snake Eyes and company.

Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings Talk Thor, Geeks, Gadgets and 3D Boobs

Sometimes, you are just in the right place, at the right time, with the right people and the stars align juuuust right to make magic happen. This was the case at SDCC this past season when Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings sat down with a bunch of geeky reporters to talk about THOR, life, art, their place in this dorky world we've created around them, technology (or their lack of) and ...the unflinching eye that is the 3D camera lens. Partman, especially, would hit the "dislike" button on that last point. If ONLY someone had video of the pair talking about all these topics. OH WAIT! We got that. Enjoy!!

Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings talk THOR..and Boobs in 3D
Uploaded by Nomadixxx. - Watch feature films and entire TV shows.

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure, “Thor,” which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Check out our pile of stills from the film, showing some fairly wimpy looking Frost "Giants". Thor opens May 6th, 2011.

Megamind VS Due Date

The battle for your weekend funnies BEGINS!! This fight may be a little different than the box office battles we are used to. Megamind will attract a solid family audience as well as the super geeks attracted to the comic bookified content, and then fans of the stars involved as well as those drawn to the advance buzz. Due Date will get a solid "date night" nod, heavy crowds of those old enough to watch and drawn in by "Director of The Hangover" on the trailers and posters, as well as people who think they are too cool to watch cartoons. BLASPHEMERS!!

MEGAMIND: Two babies rocket to Earth as their planets are sucked into a black hole, mirroring the origin story of Superman himself. One child blessed with super powers and fantastic hair grows up privileged and loved by all. The other with blue pallor and a sizable noggin encasing the brain of an evil genius...isn't so lucky. As the two grow, their rivalry becomes the stuff of legend. It's Megamind VS Metro Man with the fate of the city in the balance...until the day when Metro Man is suddenly blown to bits. BAD GUYS WIN...??!! Quickly growing bored of a world without a nemesis, Megamind does some cloning and powers up a slacker idiot to take Metro Man's place. Unfortunately, the new super also wants to be the bad guy. Wackiness ensues.

First off, I've got to applaud the originality of this story and the fantastically funny way in which it is told. I know people that wince in pain at the thought of Will Ferrell screaming unintelligibly into his mic. This is not the case at all. I'd normally be right there with you, having my own agonizing flashbacks of Talladega Nights, but Ferrell takes the role and makes it his own, creating the perfect nuances for the character rather then having animation built around his own personal antics. The end result is awkward, geeky, self conscious and ridiculously over the top in the most perfect ways possible and deserving of a showboating master super villain who gets his showmanship inspiration from rock concert laser shows and pyrotechnics! This also means the soundtrack kicks ass. GET YOUR METAL ON! I've also got to give credit to Tina Fey whose comedic timing is impeccable and whose delivery of dry lines along side Megamind's grandstanding are consistently a source for "play that again" amusement. As for Brad Pitt, whom I love watching in films; I felt he didn't bring anything to the table and more times then not, I felt the role may as well have gone to George Clooney as..well..he sounds JUST LIKE Clooney and George would probably have brought a little funny to the role.

The animation here is mind blowing, as befitting the colossal super fights you'll see, as quickly as they go by. The spectacle is less from super battle and more from the characters interacting with their environment; using their super powers and ultra destructive weapons of chaos in that environment to great effect. This makes the film a treat for the eyes as well as giving your stomach muscles a work out from constant laughter. For the geeks in the audience, you'll get nods to great moments in geek history alongside Megamind's ingenious creations, traps, and giant destructobot clearly influenced from old 50's scifi art. The dorky mind explodes! Megamind is an instant win and surely something you will push on your children along side The Incredibles to assure they are raised properly and with a subconscious love for comic book action that will manifest in book buying when they are old enough to respect that all books go in boards and bags, and that you don't eat Cheetos while reading them.

DUE DATE: Peter Highman rushes home to his pregnant wife who is about to pop when fate steps in...in the form of a pudgy, peculiar aspiring actor whose gift for chaos forces the two into a cross country odyssey packed with crime, misfortune and PAIN!! If you are the type of person (like me) who cringes in their seat when a character does something you REALLY don't want them to do and would love to scream for them to stop doing, then this movie is instantly not for you. I recall painful moments watching Seinfeld, watching a certain round man pull a pastry out of the garbage and eat it and experiencing a full body convulsion. This is what Zack Galifianakis does to me, and specifically, what he did to me in this film. The level of annoying is pumped up to a factor of 3 thousand, perhaps just below the boys from Dumb and Dumber, which made me beg for mercy every 20 minutes or so. The film makers seek to offset this pain with touches of drama where you realize that Zack's character Ethan's dream to be an actor may be warranted and that his urgency to never be alone drives his manic behavior. Well...all fine and good, but I still don't want to be friends with such a needy psycho, much less watch them systematically destroy a man's life. Galifianakis is absolutely a great actor...and I know this because I despised his character every minute of this film.

Could the undeniable charm of Robert Downey Jr. offset this level of irritation? The answer is a resounding no, most specifically because his character is highly unlikable! Mr. Highman is quick to argue and insult people just doing their jobs, shows zero patience in any environment and lashes out with unwarranted levels of violence that you may laugh at at first, but feel uncomfortable with later. Some of the things this character does makes you believe he is just an irredeemable character who deserves every ounce of pain he gets by being in close proximity to Ethan, who is revealed as DIVINE JUSTICE!! After all, the man is about to be a father. Something has to change before the universe allows him to be left alone with a child. Again, we are given moments with Peter where you can see why someone would love him, and genuine affection he shows to a man who is clearly lost in this world and alone, but it does little to counter act his true nature we've been witness to for the bulk of the film.

Is there funny? Yes, a bit. Is this more of that "shocking" and "awkward" funny we've come to expect from any movie with Galifianakis is a part of? ABSOLUTELY. Know what you are in for and decide for yourself. This is NOT the Hangover, but in that same breathe, this is also not an a-typical, cookie cutter buddy film where two unlikely souls join forces. There are no slow moments, badly written scenes or times when you feel they've wasted valuable cash on bullshit your average American eats up, but the unique creation that emerges as a result will not be for everyone.

Emma Stone is Gwen Stacy

DOOOMED!! You loved her in Easy A and now, Emma Stone will play the perfect Gwen Stacy in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot film. Why is she doomed? Well if this version of the story follows the comics, Gwen is fated to come face to face with the Green Goblin who ends her life in a moment which changes Spider-Man for the rest of his life. Emma NYOOOOOO!! Will she survive? You'll have to wait until 2012 to find out...in 3D!!

Emma Stone has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming Spider-Man film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, it was announced today by Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures. Stone has been tapped for the role of Gwen Stacy opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. The film, to be directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will begin production in December and will be released in theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012.

The casting continues an association between Sony Pictures Entertainment and the actress, who previously starred in Superbad, The House Bunny, and Zombieland, all for Columbia Pictures; she may currently be seen in Screen Gems’ hit comedy Easy A, and takes a cameo role in Screen Gems’ upcoming Friends with Benefits.

Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, “It’s been an incredible journey for us to watch Emma’s star rise as an actress. She is extraordinarily talented and has a very special on-screen spark that is perfect for this role. Given her history with the studio, casting her in one of our most important franchises is a real thrill.”

Webb added, “The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.”

Clash of the Titans (2010) Movie Review

Humans scratch away at the barren lands under the shadow of immortal beings who know no pain or suffering and demand unwavering worship. When men scream toward the heavens in protest, they are smacked to the ground. When the armies of man launch a campaign of defiance against Zeus himself, the god allows Hades to issue an ultimatum. Sacrifice the princess of Argos, or the Kraken will be set loose on the world! WHO will save them? Legend tells of a man with a shaved head and Australian accent who will lead a dour band of soldiers on a quest for the one weapon that will slay the Kraken. If Hollywood has taught us anything in the last year, it’s that Sam Worthington is the savior of us all.

When attempting to remake any movie, you come up against the fans of the original. When remaking Clash of the Titans, you also face the added wrath of the fans who revere the work of the great Ray Harryhausen above and beyond the original film itself. On one hand, stop-motion animation is extremely antiquated and could be easily surpassed in a “Wow Factor” scenario. Another viewpoint is that stop-motion animation is timeless, making any scene instantly more awesome with the addition of little puppets poised to battle and/or eat humankind. Whatever side you may be on, all the Clash redux would have to do to capture the imagination of a whole new age is deliver fantastic monsters attempting to devour characters we give a damn about. Unfortunately, Clash 2010 fails at both.

Clash of the Titans (2010)For reasons unknown to us, the men of Argos learn that Perseus (Worthington) is a demigod (half man/half god) and, therefore, the only being who stands a chance of killing the colossal Kraken. The film then introduces us to the scrappy band of misfits charged with accompanying Perseus on his quest, the bulk of whom do their best to provide comic relief to incessant speeches about man’s disgust of the gods. *Cue Worthington’s now trademark anguished howl* "DAAAAAMN YOUUUUU, ZEUUUUUUS"! Clash even stacks the deck with two scruffy assassins who are obviously introduced for wacky antics, and the duo are great at their jobs but inexplicably quit the fight early in the movie with nary a joke to send them off. Odd.

Thirty-two one-liners later (all of which fall flat), and we are no closer to caring about any characters except maybe for Io (Arterton), who is cursed with looking hot for all eternity. To make matters worse, every spectacle the film has to offer (which we’ve already seen in the ten plus clips and nearly one hundred stills showing it all that have popped up online) is introduced with the artistic eye one might see on "The Deadliest Catch" when one of the fishermen holds a giant crab aloft in triumph. The best effect of the movie is no doubt the scene stealing Pegasus, the black winged horse. Medusa comes off looking like a high quality comic book drawing, the Kraken is less than awe inspiring, and the giant scorpions may as well have been stop-motion puppets. At one point in the flick we see a giant claw next to one of the warriors, and I swear it swayed like a puppet on strings. "Thunderbirds" are GO!

Clash of the Titans (2010)Rather than offering viewers anything resembling emotionally driven content to hold their attention during the ill explained conflict we're being treated to, the film instead attempts to replace tension and feeling with overly charismatic characters. Unfortunately, there are none here. Our band of warriors seem to have no love for each other so why should we bother to care about them? Of course, there is the forced relationship between Io and Perseus, which is painfully obvious from her first appearance, but even that fails to exact the pulling of any heartstrings.

I couldn’t help thinking that maybe I might be too jaded as I watched giant monsters battle ancient warriors and still found every scene tiresome. Would this blow the mind of some little kid? Maybe so, but I am an adult who has been looking forward to this film since day one. Why am I slowly ... falling ... asleep? It should be noted that I watched Clash in 2D, thereby sparing myself the annoyance of shaky imagery converted to 3D, but the thought of any scene playing better because monster phalanges are being thrown at our heads is fairly inconceivable. Clash of the Titans is a dull, uninspired mess with the emotional depth of a Sid and Marty Kroft TV special. Wait for this on DVD and use it to keep the kids amused in between episodes of "Sponge Bob Square Pants".
