Amazing Spider-Man Movie Minimates In Action

Now that every damn one of you has gone out and seen The Amazing Spider-Man ( I assume this, because any good geek would), we'd like to celebrate the fantastic plastics made for the film. This has to be a quickie since we are knee deep in San Diego Comic-Con prep, but that doesn't mean we shirked our responsibilities while shooting away.

Check out Diamond Select's Amazing Spider-Man Minimates! Boasting the widest array of characters from the film, Diamond Select's boxy little figures allow you to recreate every scene from the film on your desk at work while you wait for those TPS reports to print out. Minimates are jam packed with posability, allowing for the most eerie emoting from a figure of that scale. It always amazes me how much a little tilt of a head can do to a character's body language in a shot.

The Amazing Spider-Man Reviewed

As an angry nerd who was raised on comic books, I have a personal stake when Hollywood hijacks one of my beloved comic heroes and has their way with them. Sometimes, we get a disaster like Catwoman. I’ll give you a moment to stop screaming and vomiting. …and we continue. Sometimes we get Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. After watching The Amazing Spider-Man, the older Spider-Man films now play like Tim Burton’s Batman in my head. They are whimsical and fairly non-threatening with too much time spent on overly mushy, mumbly moments where our protagonists drone on about their boundless love, and at the time, it is all we had, so it was good. Peter Parker was super nerdy, Mary Jane was missing a bit of her ka-pow…if you know what I mean…and there was just some element missing. The humor of the comics..the intensity of the action..the depravity of the villains…SOMETHING just did not translate. Even New York was this sort of idealized, convenient Raimi creation. All that is about to change.

Amazing Spider-Man Movie Merchapalooza

Here at Idle Hands, we like to show you the figures (large, small and teeny tiny), the busts, the statues, the bobblers and knockers (snicker) and everything in between. When a new comic movie drops, we are sure to see brand new merchandise to exploit the moment. When that movie is based on a powerhouse of the DC or Marvel Universe, you could literally bury yourself in the number of products bearing the film's logo and main character's face. We thought Batman would win that war this year. We thought wrong.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is turning out to be the clear winner this year with more product world wide than The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises combined. Damn, those Europeans sure do love the web head! Since most of these products were found on websites written in crazy alien languages, I can only show you the greatness without further explanation as to speaking, light up or vibrating features. Mores the pity. My favorite items include the buff spidey-chest laser tag set, the spidey game with little spidey thwip hands, the spidey advent calendar (because what says coundown to Christmas more than an irradiated spider super hero?), the all terrain spidey toddler attack vehicle and the spidey lab, in which you can recreate the experiment which gave Peter Parker his powers...or make gummy spiders? Again..it was in a foreign language and included no description even in said foreign language..so..yea. Enjoy!

Toy Fair 2012 : Our Lunch with Hasbro..and 200 Other Snorting Geeks

Toy Fair 2012 is well underway now!! So..what have we been doing for the last 2 weeks? Warm up, son! Today, Hasbro packed their theater to capacity to many a nerdling and rolled out all their newest from the worlds of Transformers, Spider-Man, Avengers, Marvel Comics, Star Wars and G.I.Joe. After their presentation, you get little more than ONE HOUR ..maybe an hour and a half..to shoot THE WHOLE SHEBANG. Your obstacles...

- Sunday reporters who thought a lovely jaunt off to the fun fair would be awesome and brought their camera phone to capture all the glory. Of course this means their optimal shooting position is right in front of the displays for extreeeme close ups. Fantastic.
