Let's kick things off with the featured vehicles, characters and creatures you are likely to see in many shapes and sizes..from hard plastic to squishy plush. then we'll run down the list of what we've seen so far...
PORGS!! Prepare for everything Porg this Christmas. Spin Master..are you listening?? If you aren't putting the finishing touches on a Porg Hatchimal at this very moment, I don't know what life is anymore. A Porg is a penguin-like creature with big giant eyes and unlimited earning potential for all licensees. We'll meet them on the island of Ahch-To. I'm not kidding. Their island sounds like a sneeze. OMG. All of this would be nearing ridiculous levels of marketing manufactured adorable, if it weren't for the fact that they go to this island to find Luke Skywalker. OK fine. I bet you they make lil cooing noises. Just...just show me the POP figure already.
"Porgs are native to Ahch-To, and can be found dwelling along the cliffs of the island where Luke and Rey are. In many ways, they’re the Star Wars version of puffins. They build nests. They can fly. Their babies are called porglets… Given how rarely their island has visitors, their curiosity outweighs any skittishness they may have… Ever since that roadside scavenger let out that belch outside Jabba’s palace in Return of the Jedi, the idea that there’s an entire animal kingdom living amid the drama and adventure of the Star Wars saga is a compelling one. Besides, porgs are cute. You fall into those deep, soulful eyes. I think a lot of people are going to want a porg as a pet."
ROSE: Is she merely a short (she's 5'2") Asian (what's the Star Wars equivalent of Asian?) resistance tech for Cobalt Squadron, or are they going to paint her as the hot headed teen rebel who charges into danger without thinking and clashes with Finn and company? Though Kelly Marie Tran is nearly 30, the latter seems likely. Adding a teen...like...woman in the mix broadens the movie's demographic. We shall seee...
Elite Guard: Just a small prediction...we are about 75% sure this sinister looking trooper is going to be the "Captain Phasma" of The Last Jedi, with limited screen time but high impact on viewers' eyeballs and wallets!
The Resistance Ski Speeder: Imagery of this sleek vehicle seen skimming the surface of an unknown planet in the Last Jedi teaser trailer is already popping up all over the place, so expect to be able to collect the Ski Speeder in sizes ranging from 3 inches to 12+, and perhaps a nice throw pillow for your couch at Target...
Let's take a look at the 3.75 inch figures, courtesy of Star Wars Rogue 507 out of Panama. The launch lineup seems to include C-3PO, Chewbacca, Finn Resistance Fighter, First Order Stormtrooper, General Hux, Kylo Ren, Luke Skywalker Jedi Master, Poe Dameron Resistance Pilot, Resistance Gunner Paige, Jedi Training Rey and Resistance Tech Rose
You'll note the "Force Link" logo on all the toys. We had thought this was going to be like the old Episode 1 CommTech Chip gimmick where the base of the toy can be read by a reader and then the reader will "speak" phrases from the character, and it seems we were mostly right. The Force Link arm attachment is now the reader/speaker and it seems all the toys are already chipped! This way, if you are wearing the gear while you play with the toys, you can make whoever is in your hand talk...in theory.
Here's a good look at the Resistance Ski Speeder
And a peek at Kylo Ren's Tie Silencer and the Rathtar we first saw at SDCC
