We sent Heather Buckley to New York Comic Con 2012 to discover the wonders of this nerdy oasis in the heart of the mean city, knowing full well her horror convention instincts would lead her to adventure. We found Heather, crumpled and beaten, at the bottom of the stairs at Midtown Comics. It seems she stayed alive just long enough to write up this blog, edit her pictures and pen a lengthy odyssey-like tale of love and loss starring Peter Weller and Philip K. Dick. It was a buddy movie. The latter will be released in 2016, when Peter Weller has ripened. For now...this is Heather Buckley's Comic Con tale...
ABOUT LOYD:
My key goal today was to meet Christopher Lloyd. It was 50 bucks for
his autograph and I had my Christopher Lloyd sack with me it case he
could be captured and displayed in my parlor. I even posted the price
and banner with Lloyd’s name on it to crowd source my answer: do I do
it?
I mean, Lloyd is getting up there and when I was 14 years old, we were
asked to write a letter to our favorite person and I picked him. I made
my Mother tape every Taxi episode he was on. I loved him in Back to the
Future, One Flew over the Cuucook’s Nest, Amazing Stories... I had to meet
him, even if it was for one second. I needed a brush with Lloyd
greatness.

The NECA Report: Carrie, Prometheus and Gremlins
Our last NECA update showed off a long awaited Portal figure for the game-obsessed alongside a new Dutch from Predator and a new scale for Gears of War action figures! Today's update isn't as earth shattering, but a Carrie action figure (though not based on the original film) is something to shout about..isn't it?
NECA continue their domination of the horror plastics universe with two new action figures from the upcoming Carrie remake (releasing March 15, 2013) with Chloƫ Grace Moretz (Hit Girl) in the title role. The 7 inch figure duo make up a sort of before and after...one depicting the moment just before being crowned Prom Queen...and one right after, drenched in pig's blood and gearing up tear some students apart with her freaky mind powers. The latter is sure to be a sought after piece for horror fans...unless they are King/De Palma purists, in which case they can sit there with their frowny faces and leave the plastics for the rest of us. The pair are said to drop (individually) late January. That's late Feb/Early March for those in the US.

Casting Info for X-Men: Days of Future Past
Hollywood's relationship with comics is funny. At times, the creatives of the film love the source material so much they stick to every beat ..and the public hates it. Others have contempt for the source material and strive to create a product with more bang for your buck, altering characters beloved by the comics community at large..and the public AND the comic geeks hate it. X-Men: First Class was an untouchable duck. After the under-performing last couple of X films, even Fox execs rolling around Toy Fair were nothing but grateful to the sole licensor for their film, as everyone expected this wildly divergent project to get a big thumbs down. Surprise surprise...people loved it. Now Bryan Singer; the man who made the original X-Men film a box office success story; has returned to direct the "sequel" Days of Future Past..and he's bringing the old and new gangs with him.

Professor Elemental - I'm Brittish
No snow today, but quite a bit of wet, which makes me long for my days of intense stomach pains from bad food, unruly weather and bitter, bitter cold as we stood alongside some old rocks. Yes, I speak of my adventure to the UK...where people reroute for a peacock in the road and you aren't allowed to have water with lunch at the pub. It's just not done. Here's a message from one of our favorite Brits; Professor Elemental, who would like to play you a jaunty little tune...
"Well hello. To counter this dark, wintery drudge we find ourselves wedged inside, may we offer a little splendid summer sunshine - the first single from the BRAND NEW Professor Elemental album, 'Father Of Invention'. Nasty Mystery Hobbitses
Those nasty, filthy, thieving hobbitses are going to be all over merchandising for the next month or so! We've taken more than a couple of looks at toys celebrating the good, the bad and the gobliny of Middle Earth (HERE and HERE and HERE)and now, we'll get a glimpse of some more plastics to add to your desk armies...
The Vivid Toy Group out of the UK nabbed a Hobbit license and teased "a range of collectables to coincide with the major movie release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Though their website still says "coming soon", the pre-orders have begun to drop..ready or not! Seems as if Vivid will be releasing a line of blind packaged, mini Hobbit figures with characters including Thorin Oakenshield, Grinnah the Goblin, Bofur the Dwarf, another Goblin, Gandalf in two different poses, Tauriel, Gollum, Bolg, Yazneg, Bolbo Baggins in two different poses, Kili the Dwarf, Dwalin the Dwarf, Balin the Dwarf, Fili the Dwarf and Radagast. Each sculpt will come in silver metal, gold and bronze colorways. No word yet on the rarities of each character, but we'll be looking to find out!

Heather Buckley VS New York Comic Con 2012: Day 1
Some press folks rush home from their daily toils at conventions to post their scoops, sneaks and rumors. We here at Idle Hands like to ruminate on our findings, letting them gel until the consistency of a fine paste we can use to affix the geektastic informations like a Motley Crue tour poster engaged to a brick wall..forever intertwined. We sent Heather Buckley out into the microcosm of New York Comic Con to experience the show as only a Heather Buckley could. This...is her story.
DAY ONE:
NERD HORDE
I got to Jacob Javits Center the earliest I could on October 13th in the year of our Time Lord 2012. After being ushered into the industry entrance, I was given a Walking Dead badge (a female zombie, claw grasped around a gate for Press) and moved my way though a rainbow of nerds, geeks, and fan boys in various states of fancy dress.
I saw a slew of anime demon girls with candy corn horns—wondering all along whom they were supposed to be and why there were so many have them. I saw lots of Catwomen in all shapes and controversial sizes. 15,000 female Lokis (the new Catwoman for Cosplay?) and Ghostbusters. Some commented on my bihawk and asked who I was dressed as (“I am dressed as Heather Buckley, maybe you should try it sometime.”). All this attempting to get to my candy apple goal: Bruce Timm.

The NECA Report: Predator, Portal, Gears of War & More!
With the holidays quickly approaching, all our plastic huntings will go on hold as our loved ones attempt to snap up at least a couple of items from our wish lists..or as it is in my case, have them say "this stuff is stupid..can't we get you something PRACTICAL?!" Well, sister of mine...practical is often also BORING..and un-Christmas like..so..yea..get with the spirit. Dig? If there's one company that doesn't know the meaning of boring, it is the amazingly talented folks at NECA. This latest round of reveals will prove they haven't lost a step, continue to be the dream fulfillment bureau of our toy planet and don't skimp on the Ka-POW in every plastic pop culture idol they release. Let's begin with the show stopper...

Life Lessons from the Sanrio Street Fighters
These days, mash-ups have become an inevitability. Sometimes, the mix is ironic perfection. Sometimes, the offspring of the co-mingling is a horror so hideous it should be set aflame ..its ashes buried 20 feet underground. ...And sometimes, the mash up creates something so unexpectedly adorable, you begin flinging your money at any merchandise the partnership produces. Such was the case at San Diego Comic Con this year when Toynami set out to sell their Chun Li Hello Kitty Plush Doll and sold out BEFORE THE SHOW EVEN OPENED!! Now, two books will celebrate this mega-cute engine of unstoppable happy...

Mama Brings The Creeps
Oh man....if I'd known about this movie during New York Comic Con, I'm fairly certain that would have been all I'd be able to talk to Guillermo del Toro about!! Forget the film with the leviathan like monsters and robots...WHAT'S THIS MOVIE WITH THE CREEPY SHE BEAST??!! This new trailer I saw in front of either Skyfall or Man with the Iron Fists (my brains won't tell me which) is sure to send a chill up your back and have you watching those dark places in the corners of your home a little more closely...

Build a Better Star Trek Universe
With all the properties that have come and gone from building sets, it is quite shocking that Star Trek has never gotten the brick treatment before! All that is about to change with Hasbro's new Star Trek Kre-O line this Spring of 2013. Sure, the key elements are based on the sequel to the newest rebooted film series, but beggars can't be choosers...and hell, Hasbro has always said "if you buy it, we'll make more!" This is absolutely one situation where money will do the talking. Plus...there may be surprises below...
The KRE-O STAR TREK sets will offer high-quality KRE-O bricks as well as new KREON figures in the likeness of popular characters. Among its additional new play experiences, Hasbro will also offer robust line of roleplay toys for kids and fans to act out the intergalactic saga as well as select new figures.

Wolverine Figures Join the 2013 Lineup
I knewwww we were forgetting someone. When we last played "What's Dropping Next Year?!" we outlined a stack of releases for Iron Man 3, the animated Avengers Assemble series and a whole range of products for the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. We assume we'll have Thor: The Dark World product in there somewhere as well (more than likely 1 to 2 months before its November 2013 release). All that cast a sort of dire light on the future of the 3.75 inch Marvel Universe line...seeing as how crowded the pegs will be all year. Despite this log jam of plastic alongside RACKS of Amazing Spider-Man goods (that have just been replenished with a new wave), dwindling Avengers product and that Iron Man 2 stuff that never seems to want to go to clearance...there is still...another (spoken in Yoda's voice).

LAST DAY to Get Your Castle Grayskull!
Let's face it...the complaint is a whiny one. Oh noooo...my Castle Grayskull is too small! I can't get my He-Man through the door properly without making him duck like when I go over to Grandpa's house and have to be sure not to take my head off as I descend into the cellar because obviously folks were shorter back then?? To be a respectable scale, your tiny, childlike frame would have to drag out a 2 foot plus playset every time you wanted to make pew pew noises at Hordak and the Snake Men, risking permanent injury when that construct falls over, crushing your legs to pulp. Now you're in a wheelchair for life...but you got that Castle Grayskull problem licked!! Who would create such an insane piece of plastic? MATTYCOLLECTOR WOULD!!
Since Mattel is filled with folks who hear your mews of longing and often, share them, they set out to make your dreams come true....and today is the LAST DAY to make it happen. Here's the skinny...

Firefly 10th Anniversary Special Reviewed
Before we get into the specifics of this weekend's long awaited special, I have a confession to make. I started in on Firefly...backwards. My first run in with the show was Diamond Select asking for coverage of their tiny action figure line. I wasn't familiar with the property, but I'm sure we ran some news on Action-figure.com. At around the same time, Universal was looking to push the film along the same grass roots channels that got it made in the first place, and so a little toy news site like A-F seemed like a good place to shout out to the masses. We pushed the movie, ran trailers and a contest and for my efforts, the studio sent me a mini poster with autographs from the cast. Remember, I'd never seen the show, but I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer so I held onto the mini and probably wound up seeing the movie when it came to DVD. Suffice to say, I loved what I saw so I went out in search of the TV show and the rest is history. I've lost count of how many devotees of the show I've created by just saying "FUCKING IGNORE that it is a western...and FUCKING IGNORE the space ships. It's Joss Whedon. TRUST ME!!" When people give the show a chance they are more likely to fall in love than not.

Behold...The RoboCruise!
The lines between video game lore and movie synopsis continue to blurrr today with the release of this little snippet of info on "All You Need Is Kill"...
"TOM CRUISE stars as Bill Cage, who must relive the same brutal battle against an unrelenting alien race in the epic sci-fi thriller “ALL YOU NEED IS KILL,” from Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures. Doug Liman is directing the film, which also stars Emily Blunt. Slated to open on March 14, 2014, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures."
2014!! Feel free to curse at me for running news on a movie not dropping for a whole year. I could not say no to RoboCruise. No one says no to RoboCruise. That should be the whole marketing campaign. I'd also like to take the opportunity for the level of realism put into that battle suit. When I last nerded out on new technologies for military application, enhancing movement and strength, all you see there was in development! Maybe not the arm cannon..but you could feasibly strap on anything. ANYTHING. The porn spoof applications are limitless. I'd also like to applaud Emily Blunt for being in everything.

Holeeee crap...so much geekiness going on in Hollywood!! Before Michael Bay and Co. get ready to give us another heaping dose of Giant Fucking Robots, they thought they'd give us a heads up on WHO might be leading the Autobots into battle this time around...
After an exceptionally successful collaboration on the upcoming “Pain and Gain,” Michael Bay has cast Academy Award®-nominee Mark Wahlberg in the highly anticipated “TRANSFORMERS 4.” The film will hit theaters June 27th, 2014.

The zombie apocalypse continues across all media!! Max Brooks' tale of the zombie vs human war made for a pitched battle on the Hollywood playing field over who might get to bring the book to the big screen. That battle is now legendary. Since then, we've heard of several pitfalls that had befallen production and wondered if this project would ever show it's decaying green skin in the light of day. Today...we got an answer...
BEWARE....the return of FAST ZOMBIES!!! Thanks to Dread Central for the vid! June 2013 can't get here quick enough. Now we just have to survive the real fucking apocalypse...

The Hellboy Timeline
Our favorite would-be world breaker has had quite a life. From his beginnings as a spunky little demon whose only wanton destruction involved plates of pancakes to his years of adventuring, training and monster-slayage with the BPRD ...to today where we find HB living a quiet life in the hills of New England with 3 odd looking children and a wife prone to fits of fire tossing when she is particularly pissed off. Actually...that is NOT were we find Hellboy today. If he were to check in on FourSquare, we'd see him located a bit further south...IN HELL!! dun dun dun duuuun. Catch up with the exploits of Big Red in this handy dandy info-graphic from Dark Horse comics!

Will Disney Swallow Up Hasbro Next?
Last night my good friend Heidi MacDonald (of The Beat) asked me if I knew anything about the rumors that Disney would be snapping up Hasbro next on their way to owning every awesomely geeky thing on the planet that I love. Being a dork..and a geek...it was not within me to just answer "No". Here's what I replied...
Hasbro and Marvel Into 2013
Keeping up with the Marvel Mayhem, we bring you a hefty list of pre-orders put through to retailers detailing (but only slightly) a selection of Hasbro's 2013 offerings, focusing mainly on those projects with media tie-ins like Movie or TV. The titles include Avengers Assemble (the animated series), Iron Man 3 and Ultimate Spider-Man (the animated series.) Let's just jump right in...
A quick warning: The pics, if any, that we got a hold of are complete shite. They are small and clipped badly by whomever clipped them and so we did our best to make them a tiny bit better....and still..they look like shite. Please excuse. We'll be on the hunt for more.
Hasbro Marvel Avengers Assemble: Assortment of 15 new 3.75 inch Avengers animated style figures in 2013 blister packaging. Expected January 2013. Wave 2 in February, Wave 3 in March.

Disney Stores Exclusive Marvel Action Figures
Diamond Select/ Marvel Select have been working over time to feed those Marvel Zombies who haven't seen a Marvel Legends or Marvel Universe wave for some time now. Now The Disney Store gets in on their sculptural genius with a small wave of exclusive figures you'll only see on their pegs.
Marvel toy collectors just got another reason to put the nearest Disney Store in their GPS. After partnering with Diamond Select Toys on four exclusive Marvel Select Avengers figures and two exclusive Amazing Spider-Man movie figures, the Disney Store has teamed up with DST yet again, to deliver three new Marvel Select figures that collectors will be dying to own!
The first figure (available now) is the Savage Hulk, a new, modern Hulk based on artist Marc Silvestri's rendering of the character in recent issues of the Incredible Hulk from Marvel Comics. Depicting a more intelligent version of the Hulk than previous Select offerings, this figure was sculpted by frequent Marvel Select contributor Jean St. Jean, and stands over 9 inches tall with 16 points of articulation.

Frankenstorm Vs Halloween
Hows that for a Syfy Saturday Night title? Throw in NJ and you've got gold! Suffice to say, my birthplace of New York and my adopted home town of New Jersey has gotten its collective ass kicked by mother nature and just as we are picking up the pieces, I hear another storm is on the way. I'm currently soaking up the electricity at my Mom's place; a mere 10 minutes from my own dark home. There was no telling when my power would return and when I heard she had power..well..let's just say she would have had to have beaten me at the door with a broom stick to stop me from dropping in. We'd heard power was being restored to the south and as it moved up rt.35 it lit up Red Bank, then Freehold, then Hazlet...then skipped right over us and landed on Rahway.

John Dies At The End
In these troubled times, we need heroes to protect the innocents from aliens, demons and the occasional power mad, souped up baddie. John...is not that hero.
In JOHN DIES AT THE END, it's all about the Soy Sauce, a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. Users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John (Rob Mayes)and David (Chase Williamson), a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No.No, they can't.
