2014 Holiday Buying Guide: Geek Up Your Home with NEW Holiday Items
It used to be my favorite time of year was just after Halloween, when all those amazing, creepy creations went on deep discount and you could fill your cart with junk you don't need....but you can't say no to! As I get older, I've come to appreciate the retailer's change of holiday isles and more importantly, what geektastic new products they hide among the isles of candies, decorations and dancing critters. This year you would expect an explosion of dork-themed items on shelves, what with the explosion of our movies at the box office and full infiltration of TV, but it seems some stores get it, and some stores are hesitant to pull that trigger. Here's a breakdown of killer holiday items we found in stores this year...

Godzilla Comes Home for the Holidays with El Rey's Kaiju Christmas Marathon
It's pretty awesome living in a time when the people who love the same things we do are making most of the media we crave. Case in point, a Mr. Robert Rodriguez who started his own TV network, launching with a series based on From Dusk til Dawn, a tale of bad men going up against ancient vampires. Could you imagine something like this getting a series 10 years ago??!! Now, Rodriguez uses his network to celebrate the holidays in a way that kicks so much ass, well...there will be no asses left to kick. Ditch that Christmas Story marathon. Let's start a new tradition!

Gentle Giant Dives Into Marvel's Secret Wars with Jumbo Retro Action Figures
While Marvel Comics is about to blast headlong into yet another Secret War, Gentle Giant prefer to remember the original event that introduced Spider-Man's black costume, birthed a new baddie for She-Hulk to pound on and answered the question....what would happen if you dump a mountain on top of The Hulk? Marvel's Secret Wars was crazy fun for me as a kid and now, our statue making friends will rekindle that love with jumbo 12 inch reproductions of what were really the first straight up Marvel action figures for most of us! The line kicks off with Black Suited Spider-Man, due out the third quarter of 2015. Here's the skinny...

This week, Funko drops word of their tiny, adorable alien invasion including one property clearly meant to melt your heart and another with legions of fans who haven't been serviced in a crazy long time.

Exhibition of Painted Subway Trains Opens November 22 in Grand Central Terminal
Celebrating the unique creative expressionism of late 20th century NYC, The Grand Slam art show brings viewers back to the days when each passing train exploded with color and style. The Grand Slam showcases the works of the pivotal artists that pioneered this art form, as well as many others that have been inspired by the vibe, aesthetic and spirit of the past. The All City Style 20-inch-long subway train “canvas” allows these artists to express themselves freely while paying tribute to the movement and culture that inspired a generation.

HBO Orders Westworld To Series
We live in a time of unlikely projects being green lit. It's none the less amazing when something fairly obscure or just plain geek-cult-famous get's the thumbs up for film re-imagining/re-making/prequeling....and even more mind blowing when a network orders an entire season of something based on a killer concept from my past. Today, this has happened...and that image of a cowboy with a robot face forever etched into your brain will now have NEW LIFE....on HBO.

Ladies and Gentlemen....Underoos Have Returned
It is clear we are living in a golden age of geekiness when our movies take the top grosses at the box office, folks proudly display their fully tattoo'd bodies covered in characters from Marvel, Star Wars, My Little Pony and the like, and our favorite properties from childhoods past are celebrated with new toys that are released every damn week, assuring we will be forever poor in cash, but rich in awesome junk. Speaking of junk....HOW'D YOU LIKE TO BACK YOUR JUNK UP INTO SOME ADULT SIZED UNDEROOS??!! It's time to make some dreams come true....
I'm told Hot Topic's cache of Underoos started popping up around Halloween time (when most of you were dressing like slutty mice), but you'll forgive my lateness on this report as I barely ever venture into that bastion of tight back clothing lest I risk exiting thinking black eyeliner is a good look for me. Suffice to say, a tip from an awesome girl at the Trenton Punk Rock Flea Market had me in full search mode for an Oogie Boogie winter hat; a need so mighty I ventured to THE MALL.. and while seeking out the most awesome of head gear, found little pieces of my youth nestled in the corner, silently calling to my privates.
