Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1: Clip 1

Droooooool. This day is full of geek drool.

Frank Miller’s landmark graphic novel about fear, hope and redemption is celebrated with proper measures of haunting visuals and intense action in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1, the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original Movies. Produced by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation, the all-new, PG-13 rated film arrives September 25, 2012 from Warner Home Video as a Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD, On Demand and for Download. The Blu-ray™ Combo Pack will include UltraViolet™.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Toy Commercials

It's a tricky art. Too much push and your product suffers as the audience finds you obnoxious. Too little and we are left wondering if what we just saw was actually a commercial for something we can buy! With Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles returning to toy shelves, Playmates wanted to make sure they re-captured the energy and non-stop fun of their past lines...and past commercials as well. Let's see how they did...

Star Wars: Detours Revealed

Star Wars Detours™ is an animated comedy that explores what daily life is like in a galaxy far, far away. There are no Empires striking back or attacking clones here. Instead, Star Wars Detours focuses on the universe’s regular folks and their everyday problems… which, to be fair, do frequently involve famous bounty hunters, crazed Ewoks, and even a Dark Lord of the Sith.

Welcome to Star Wars: Detours: the other side of the stars, between the wars. Technically it takes place between Episodes 3 and 4..if you keep track of such stuff.

It's the brain child of the Robot Chicken crew who just happen to be massive Star Wars fans. The cast includes Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Ahmed Best, Seth MacFarlane, Jennifer Hale, Dee Bradley Baker, Joel McHale, Nat Faxon, Cree Summers, Felicia Day, Abraham Benrubi, Weird Al Yankovic, Zachary Levi, Donald Faison and most definitely Breckin Meyer & Seth Green.

What more do you need to know?! I'm sold. Here's some eye candy!

Get Branded September 7th

And now...for something completely different...

BRANDED is a dark, mind-bending journey into a surreal, dystopian near future where corporate brands have unleashed a global conspiracy to control who we are and keep the population disillusioned, dependent and passive. One man, Misha (Ed Stoppard) is passionate to take back control, uncover the truth behind the conspiracy and lies and try to stop it from destroying our world.

A Brief (very brief) History of ParaNorman Figures

I finally got a chance to see Laika's latest stop motion masterpiece "ParaNorman" yesterday, in 3D, and I have to say I was not disappointed! I do have one observation though...did I just watch a stop motion Silent Hill?! We've got the cursed, overly religious towns folk...the burned alive, innocent child who goes all "Grudge" in the afterlife...the white screens...the burn-aways (in place of the rotting landscape as the sirens sound)...the similarities are glaring! Of course, Laika have cut back on their pissed off specter's bloody vengeance, as this needs to be at least a little safe for the kiddies, even though that is not the main concern of the film makers. Never the less, you won't find any razor wire sodomy in ParaNorman, but the 3D stop motion is unmatched! So...you know...it's a trade off.

What If: The Thing Retro Action Figures

I would also like a ReAnimator 5 inch figure line with exploding zombies, Dr. Hill with removable head and tongue action and a "find the undead, fucked up cat" playset with many places to launch the cat from! While we are dreaming, lets make Meet the Feebles action figures in scale with Palisades Muppets line..just to see if anyone notices them in your collection...and 3 and 3 quarter inch Slither action figures with a giant Grant Grant playset with moving tentacles and spots on his body you can shove a figure as if he were sucking them in. Ahhhh...dreams.

Consequently, there are a handful of The Thing action figures in a 7 inch, Movie Maniacs scale. SOTA made a McCready vs transforming dogs diorama set and McFarlane made the Norris Creature with Spider/Head and the Blair Monster.

The Dark Spud Goes Retro

Somewhere out there, there's a man..or a woman...maybe even many men and women..with massive collections of Mr. Potato Heads. These obsessed individuals will tell you the history of the world's most famous vegetable, telling tales of daring deeds and adventures as well as the many faces Mr. PoHead has donned to make you smile and sometimes escape deportation. It happens. NOW, justice is in need of a protector, so once more, our hero will don a cowl over his googly eyes and take to the rooftops!!! Collectors, time to add two more spuds to your wish lists.

Judgement Is Coming in DREDD

Things we must assure you of going into September (soon enough) when building your anticipation of Dredd and simultaneously erasing the train wreck that was the Stallone version from your minds...

1. Dredd will keep his god damn helmet on.
2. Dredd does not have a plucky sidekick
3. If Dredd makes a joke, it is probably unintentional and made funny because he is standing on a pile of bodies. Piles of bodies make everything funnier.

Some have said Dredd may as well be "The Raid: Redemption" with your favorite 2000AD comic book character in the starring role, so that should give you a sense of the non-stop killfest we are in for! Here's the newest eye candy to close the deal...

Matt & Seth's Secret Star Wars Animated Project Surfaces

Jedinews caught a bit of a scoop while exploring any hall open to them before the actual start of Celebration VI! Matt Senreich and Seth Green have been hard at work on the oft whispered about Star Wars "comedy" and to date, only the name "Detours" as a rumored title has slipped out. Now an invite for a Super Secret Panel graces the pages of the Celebration VI show guide promising to give up the goods this Friday AND Saturday. Matt, Seth and Todd Grimes (of Back at the Barnyard and Planet Sheen) will spill their guts for two days at noon on the Celebration Stage, Chapin Theater, so we'll be sure to follow up when the news drops.

BUT..most of the time, you have to be the fastest at the keyboard with the fastest, no fail internet connection and a healthy bank account to own a slice of Mondo goodness. Suffer the Poor, Defenseless Toys

I swear...if this continues I'm going to commission a mournful infomercial showing the toys left battered, broken and unloved after a rampant Toy Raping has occurred. We've touched on this subject in the past, but it seems the same three individuals are still at work in my area, so I thought I might shed a blinding light on them once more in the hopes Toys R Us, Walmart, Marshalls, Target and K Mart will actually keep an eye open and catch these fantastic asshats in the act. Here are the latest victims and our profiles on the attackers. Police sketches courtesy of Photoshop...

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 : Day 4 Diary

Titled Henchman Ed Hardy Han Solo

You win some..you lose some. My Friday was packed with ParaNorman interviews, the casts of Total Recall and Looper answering my questions and free t shirts on top of it all. Sony & Focus Features sure did show me some love! Unfortunately, the Warner Brothers press conferences were jam packed by the time I had started begging for a spot, promising to stand in the back to film with no expectation of getting a question off at all. Hell I would have sat UNDER the table to be in the room with the cast of The Hobbit. The movie gods were not swinging things in my favor, freeing up my day for further toy shooting and another run through the show with the hot, furry, insanely geeky HOBACCA!! Yes, Mika was dead set on getting the most out of her sexy Chewbacca costume, but I was not looking forward to another day in that thick Han Solo shirt, so we made a compromise. The people of San Diego had not yet gazed upon the glory of my 2011 Birthday present from Leenie...my HENCHMAN HOODIE!! Hand stitched in half a dozen places and show accurate, save a couple of antennae we couldn't figure out how to create, this thing was a beauty and I was intent on proudly wearing it to the biggest geek show on the planet...so I wore it under my Han Solo vest creating Henchman Ed Hardy Han Solo. It made perfect sense. Before I could storm the con floor, I had an important task to perform.

ParaNorman Crew Talk Undead Details

While running the gambit we call San Diego Comic Con, I took full advantage of moments where I could sit, enjoy functioning air conditioning, and chat with film makers and the actors that bring their creations to life. This weekend, we get to take in one such project. Paranorman, the instant stop motion masterpiece from the mad geniuses at Laika, promises to elevate the art of stop motion animation to new heights and, on a simpler level, make you smile like crazy. Here's the skinny...

Jaws Blu-ray Reviewed

I’m a bit of an odd duck. When I really love an older movie, I prefer to not own it, as this provides me the opportunity to run into it accidentally whilst flipping through channels some random day. It’s the most excellent of surprises. Occasionally, there is that rare instance when film makers put forth a Herculean effort to create the perfect Blu-ray transfer which then gets my attention…but a dilemma still exists. I am so used to watching the “safe for TV” version of a film, it becomes burned into my brain and the theatrical version is long forgotten. Such is the case with Jaws, a film with numerous scenes extended in the TV version; one of which has become my favorite.

Hot Spanish Super Mario Love

Here in the states, we have mega stars getting acquainted with Siri; the omnipresent voice of their iPhone... with fairly idiotic results. These commercials are so dim, they have spawned a Twitter called Zooey Asks Siri, in which a parody Zooey Dachenel asks Siri such gems as "Siri, where can I find a purse made from bells?" or "Siri, find me a list of superpowers that no one has yet."or my current favorite "Siri, make a note: A store that sells hats from the Olympics." To give credit for being there first...however you can do that in a world where celebrity endorsements have always been around...Nintendo were sort of the originators of celebs talking lovingly to their hand held devices. Take from that statement whatever visual you need to get you through your day, but note that if this were, at the very least, the cinemaxish porn the setting would normally suggest, the ending would be waaaaay different. Tip of the hat to Bleeding Cool for the heads up!

Of course none of this makes me want to buy another game system, adorable Spaniards or not...but I thank Nintendo UK for two hot ladies rolling around playing video games. For some folks, that's more than enough.

Adventure Time Candy Zombies Attack

With the cartoon series Adventure Time reaching new heights of popularity, kids of all sizes are looking for more toys and merch from their favorite show...and are still coming up short. While Jazwares promises new toys are on the way and several t shirt manufacturers are conjuring AT goods as we speak, one crew has combined our love of this quirky cartoon and the bitey undead to create a memento allowing one to relive the moments when the Land of Ooo was almost engulfed in a ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!!! Sure..the danger was coming from adorable undead candy people..but they were starting to munch on fleshies and that would have quickly transformed the nearly squeaky clean cartoon into a gory horror fest. I dream of what could have been. At any rate, dig Changes new Adventure Time zombie group shot T shirt, available for pre-order NOW at Entertainment Earth.

Why Marvel NOW?

They've been pelting my email box...wearing away at my curiosity wall. Before DC's New52, my purchases were almost completely Marvel with titles like New Mutants, Deadpool, New Avengers, Thunderbolts and Uncanny X-Force topping my list of must buys....but things were starting to get stale..and overly complicated. Gone were the days when those good ole' mutant boys would pick up a bat and some gloves and just rile each other up before someone like Juggernaut came to ruin the party. It was just no fun. The NEW52 piqued my with characters I was always interested in, but worlds that shifted too wildly from day to day...and were too numerous. HOW MANY EARTHS DO YOU NEEEED??!! Seeking to get back to basics and attract a new generation of readers, the NEW52 was born, and with it came a giant sized press push, which was well deserved for a gutsy move such as revamping your entire comics empire.

In steps Marvel NOW, with wordage in each press release that does not commit to such a radical revamp, but promises endless possibility through fresh ideas and new directions.

Michael Avon Oeming's "The Victories" from Dark Horse

Two things happen when a theme gets mega popular (ie; The Avengers elevating the superhero medium)...

1. Companies green light more projects with said theme
2. Creative types look to present said theme in a way we haven't seen before so that their material compliments what is popular instead of copying it. Well....SOME attempt this. Others just outright copy.

In the case of Darkhorse's new title "The Victories", it is clear we are looking at a creator with something to say. We have the rare opportunity to read a book with art and words erupting from the source and the result is nothing short of intense. Here's the tease from PR:

Happy Quint Day!

Today is the birthday of Robert Shaw AKA Quint from Jaws, so for the remainder of the day, any time someone asks you something, be sure to answer them in a gruff tone and don't exactly answer the question as much as threaten them and throw out a sexual innuendo in the same breathe. It will be so much fun.

With a distinguished acting career that spanned nearly 30 years, the English actor and novelist Robert Shaw is perhaps best known for his role as the shark hunter "Quint" in JAWS. In celebration of his birthday (August 9th) and the start of JAWSFEST (http://www.jawstribute.com/) today on Martha's Vineyard, here is a new bonus clip about the iconic actor from the new documentary "THE SHARK IS STILL WORKING: THE IMPACT AND LEGACY OF JAWS," a bonus feature on the upcoming JAWS Blu-ray.

New Adventure Time Figures On the Way

It is a compulsion. Whenever I am near a Toys R US, I have to go in, even if I don't need anything. If I don't, I regret it the whole rest of the day. I usually make a B line for the action figure isles, but while I start at the bottom and just work isle by isle, Eileen flies in and heads right for the Adventure Time toys. For some time now, she's been looking over the same toys waiting for a sign that new sets are dropping. THAT SIGN HAS COME!!

New pre-orders are popping up around the interwebs showing sets we had only known by name. Sets include...

Monster High Hitting Retail in Force

Around the holidays, you'd have been hard pressed to find even a single Monster High doll at retail. Fans began to get fed up with seemingly poor distribution and lack of product available even online, leading Toys R Us to post signs that you would only be allowed to buy limited amounts of product as it came in; an effort to stem the tide of scalpers buying an entire shipment in one go most likely. In the early months of 2012, product began creeping back to shelves and though Toys R Us attempted to fill that black hole of product anticipation with heaps of an exclusive Black and White doll, in time, even that has disappeared from shelves.

Cabin in the Woods on Blu & DVD September 18th

If you think you know the story, think again. Experience the film that critics and audiences are raving about when The Cabin In The Woods arrives on Blu-ray Disc (plus Digital Copy), DVD (plus Digital Copy) and On Demand and Pay-Per-View September 18 from Lionsgate. The Cabin In The Woodswill also be available on EST September 4, two weeks prior to the Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand release. Co-written by fan favorites, Joss Whedon (The Avengers, TV’s “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”) and Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) and directed by Goddard, The Cabin In The Woods is a film that “horror fans will be gushing about for years” (FearNet).

The Cabin In The Woods begins as a conventional horror movie then transforms into a genre-bending, mind-blowing experience that cleverly mixes screams with pop-culture wit as the scared teens are revealed to be watched by a group of technicians that control their every move behind the scenes.

San Diego Comic-Con 2012 : Day 3 Diary

Titled: AKA Paul Get's to Sit in Air Conditioning That Works Day

This was the first year attending San Diego Comic-Con, working fully for my own site on my own dime, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to do what most normal folks do at this show...STAND IN LINES!! Actually, the plan was to score some exclusives for friends and myself, but what I didn't realize is there is an art to scoring your favorite toys. The previous morning, I had attempted to snag some goods first thing in the morning and only succeeded in being giggled at by booth girls or shoo'd away by security insisting my press badge was more a hindrance when it came to a fair shot at those items that sell out quickly. At Hallmark, someone who lines up right when the show opens is capable of making two passes at the exclusives (of which you can buy one of each and get one exclusive pin a day). Hallmark has no bags so planning for this is key, unless you want to juggle them all day. I was lucky and scored a duffel bag around the back of the booth, of which there are plenty at the show if you know where to look...or use the force or some similar brain power. Stuffing a couple with flat bottoms in your bag for the day is a great idea. At Mattel, the diesel biker security dude tells me the line is capped and to come back "after I take a couple of laps". I assumed that was just a saying so I went to seek out Jessica Smiley at the Mimoco booth, but she's ninja-like and super fast so I missed more often than made a connection. I did manage to get a My Little Pony crown to her through her friends at the booth, creating this awesome face...

The Guild 1:6 Scale Codex Figure

For years now, Felicia Day fans have had to worship crude print outs of their favorite geek queen. For something more substantial, die hards were resigned to staking out locations she had been signing at conventions to collect any bits of hair for their elaborate bubble gum statues. Now..Quantum Mechanix (aka the dorkiest of dream makers) presents an alternative that doesn't involve a restraining order...

QMx is proud to present our first one-sixth scale realistic figure: the flirty, confident Codex, portrayed by Felicia Day in the popular Web comedy series, The Guild.

The QMx Real™ Codex 1:6 Scale Figure stands more than 11 inches tall and is composed of more than 3 pounds of hand-cast polystone, allowing for a level of detail and realism unachievable in smaller-scale figures. Our figure depicts Codex, the in-game persona of shy geek girl Cyd Sherman, who leads an online gaming guild known as the Knights of Good.
